A First Class Store 12/14/2011

I have many rescue animals and often take in fosters so I have a few pets w/ special issues and the worst is my dogs allergies. The owner and staff have all been helpful and taken large amounts of time to go through all of my confusing information and found a great food for me. I have a back injury and the raised tubs make things so much easier and the products are great quality with only pure ingredients. I bring all of my friends dogs there for a bath. Never have I been treated poorly or unfairly and have always found price stickers on every single item I've looked at. The store is beyond clean and there has never been any sort of bad odor. The staff has been so amazing to my animals and my dog starts jumping all over the place as soon as I pull in the parking lot. He loves the store and all of the staff. The owner, and the staff, are so knowledgeable on everything pet related and will always go the extra mile to look up something. The store has such amazing products and if there is something they do not have in the store, they will order it for you. I feel so welcome when I come into the store and they do a fantastic job on my skittish rescue dogs nails. It is very much worth it to drive from uptown area. I am in the store quite frequently and have never seen an unsatisfied customer ever. I hear so many people complimenting the store. These are professional employees and owner and they go above and beyond to provide assistance to their customers. more

I have been visiting Pet Essentials for years and have never had a bad experience. In fact, they have always been helpful, pleasant and what I buy has always been top quality. I would recommend Pet Essentials to any one who needs anything for their pets. GREAT PLACE. more

This is a real review not from a competitor 1/8/2011

I'm amazed that people will leave bad reviews such as the ones listed, where they are making up stories about Paul and Pet Essentials. Those are so ridiculous that they are obviously from a competitor in the area. I have been a customer of Pet Essentials for some time now and Paul has done nothing but go out of his way to give me the best price and special order things for me. The first time I did business with him was over the phone and he was extremely helpful. Everyone there has always been very helpful and gracious to me when I come in to shop. I hope that anyone reading those previous reviews will go by and shop there to make up their own mind and not believe such nonsense that was put in those reviews. He truly cares about selling nutritious food and is very knowledgeable about the products that he sells. He wouldn't have been in business as long as he has if this wasn't true. more

VERY RUDE Owner 10/27/2010

I have been going to Pet Essentials for a very long time. I always bathe my dog and buy here treats. I went into the store and asked if it was half price still on Wed. He was very rude and said I had to have a coupon. That was fine, I didn't care to pay full price. He was so hateful so I told him I didn't like the way he was talking to me. He told me to leave the store, that he didn't want my business. I still wanted to bathe my dog, but he refused to let me and said if I did not leave, he would call the police. The police came. He told the police I could come back after I appologized to HIM???!! I couldn't believe it. I will NEVER go to there again and from what I have read, there are plenty of others that feel the same way. more

This small business owner has a bad attitude. Before entering this store, you will see in the front window scripture displayed, but once inside it diminishes any facade of friendliness. You may not see it the first time, or maybe even the second, but sooner or later his anger is shown. As long as you agree with are fine but question it and his arrogance explodes with unexceptable behavior in front of customers. I use to be a customer that would just leave and never come back but now I feel it is important for people to hear about experiences with the customer service recieved. We all work too hard for our money and when spending it I would much rather hand it over to a sincere nice, very customer focused store then a place like this pet store. Worth mentioning....there are a lot of stores in the area that carry the products that were at one time only carried at a select few. Do the research and you will be surprised. Shop elsewhere! more

WOW...I can't believe reviews from 2 years ago read as if I had written them. Nothing has changed except new customers come in and learn quickly to take their business elsewhere. \r \r As 10/22/08 from rndyb says and it is still true. ""Boy is he mean"" Now the prices are on paper on the shelves but he resent you asking anything about it. I mean how stupid can the customer be is his displayed attitude.\r \r As 09/10/08 from dogmum says, ""terrible customer service"". ""The owner is rude, and snooty...talks on the phone...yelling at vendor or venting his frustrations to some poor soul"" AMEN. Captured him perfectly. dogmum, I sure can't figure out when he chose to open a retail business either.\r \r The owner thinks he is superior and doesn't care if you go elsewhere. Too much competion out there now a days to behave like that. We all want to support small business today but certainly NOT this place! more

Decent Products but the Owner Needs Anger Management Classes 3/30/2010

I used to go to this pet store quite regularly and still go to the shop sometimes. They have some decent organic food, great treats, and lots of clothes, collars, toys, and leashes. However, one time, the owner started screaming at a guy who's dog growled. Now, I wasn't happy either, but this owner sounded like he was going to kill the guy when he should have taken the guy aside and quietly discussed the issue with him. However, I still went back after that. Then, a few trips later, the owner screamed (and I mean screamed) at a young, high-school aged, male employee about getting there on time. The owner was so lound that this kid was actually in tears. He seriously needs anger management classes. After that instance, I have only been back two times out of desperation for a couple of products. If this guy stops working at his own store, I may go back more. After those two instances, I was really angered that they have a Bible verse on the door but that he treats people that way. Also, it can be really hard to park there. Training Genius 12/3/2008

Three years ago, I was about to get rid of my dog! Gidget is a Terrier mix and was completely out of control, I was about to take her to the shelter until my neighbor begged me to go to Pet Essentials. Karen, one of the owners, helped train us. She didn't just train Gidget, she taught me how to communicate with Gidget. It's so simple and she comes from a common sense approach, I kind of feel silly that I couldn't see this before but now Gidget is the best trained dog and I owe it all to Karen and Pet Essentials. I have been a loyal customer for the past 3 years now and would never consider going to any other pet store in Charlotte. Pros: Very Knowledgeable owners & staff more

LOVE THIS STORE 11/10/2008

I have been shopping at Pet Essentials since I moved to Charlotte in 2001 and I just love the store, owners and staff. I have always had great customer service and they carry the most unique things for dogs. The atmosphere of the store gives a real sense that they truly care about the animals and not just the sale. Snot so nice 10/22/2008

Lots of stuff, but boy is he mean. I can't believe there are any good reviews for this store. The owner nor his employees have ever been helpful for me. There are no prices on the shelves and when I asked, he acted like it was a real problem and the girl just shrugged her shoulders. HELLO!!!! I've lived all over the country and have never found a pet store I love more than Pet Essentials. I have been a customer for 3 years and have never had a negative experience. I couldn't believe the 3 reviews that were posted, but then they were written within a three week period. Perhaps an ex employee with sour grapes. Wow, what a great pet supply store. Very clean and the store smells great, unlike many pet stores that I have been to. The staff was very friendly and helpful and their knowledge about dogs was amazing. I would highly recommend Pet Essentials to all pet lovers. The store cats are really cool too. Terrible customer service 9/10/2008

The owner is rude, and snooty. He talks on the phone constantly, and based on his tone, he is usually yelling at a vendor, or venting his frustrations to some other poor soul. He seems to detest the general public, so I'm not quite sure why he chose to open a retail business??? He obviously hates his job. I would not recommend this store to anyone, although I do love the ""dog wash"" section of his store. Staff is helpful when asked, but the owners are rude and fickle to customers. I have known this business since they were on Rea Road and now at Carmel Commons. They carry good product and have bathing facilities at the Carmel location. I no longer do business here. \r \r The location on Rea has been closed for a long time. Best Pet Store in Charlotte - HANDS DOWN!!! 8/28/2008

This pet store is by far the best in Charlotte. The staff there is so knowledgeable & warm. They are so willing to help & make sure your pet is healthy. I was feeding my new puppy NutroMax Puppy & they said that is one of the worst foods you can buy because of all the filler. My puppy wasn't eating the food. Once I switched to the puppy food they recommended, she started eating more food! She's much more active now. The toys are great. You might pay a little more for their food/toys/etc, but it is worth is for the caring environment you are in. Pros: Knowledgeable & Caring Staff Cons: Nothing I can think of. more

Worst Customer Service Ever - 8/26/2008

I walked in prepared to purchase food, leads, treat and grooming products for my new dog, however the staff was lazy and disinterested, unwilling to suggest options or upsell any of their products. I walked out empty handed. If you want to charge premium price for products then you should be prepared to offer premium customer service. I will NEVER go back. more

Full of friendly, kind and caring owners and employees, no matter what your pets issues or behavior problems, they will get to the bottom of it and do what they can to help solve your problems. Pet Essentials is a unique pet supply store. First of all, they do not sell animals so they are not supporting any puppy mills. Secondly, the owners are very knowledgeable and willing to spend time with you and pass on their knowledge to you. Pet Essentials truly cares about all dogs & cats. They are actively involved in rescuing dogs & cats. There are 5 cats that live in the store, very cool!! The store cats love to visit with the customers. Frankie, is one of my favorites. Oh, Pet Essentials also offers a Do It Yourself Bathing Spa. Very cool, love it and use it alot. Pros: Thumbs up more
