Food...well, the duck is great, hands down! We usually go there just to have ducks. Only better duck I had was actually in the Palace (in Beijing, that is), where they used a th...

Not a tourist trap, but a treasure. 4/20/2006

The downtown location is in the middle of all the questionable touristy chinatown restaurants, but it is the real thing. Yes, the space is not quite attractive and yes, you often need to wait for a while to be seated. Also, you might be surrounded by a giant group from a bus tour, as were last week. All of this is completely worth it because of the perfect food. The duck is superb and comes with all the necessary sides; we figured out that if you order a couple of vegetable and noodle dishes, you'd want 1 duck for 3 people or 4 slightly less hungry ones. Try the green beans with pork and the thick noodles with pork as additional dishes. Skip the cheap house wines and stick with the tea and TsingTao beer. Pros: Duck, Sides, Service more

Exquisite duck, excellent service 11/4/2005

You cannot beat the quality of the Peking Duck served here - the name says it all. The decor is minimalist but you cannot be the quality of the food and the service is very attentive. Great for a large group. Pros: Duck, Service Cons: Decor more

Excellent duck, all round good chinese food. 10/19/2005

If you enjoy Chinese cuisine you can't go wrong at this restaurant. A perfect place for dining in larger groups where sharing an array of various dishes makes things easy & enjoyable. Everything ordered was tasty and the Peking duck was perfect. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet. Decor is basic, service just fine but food is well worth every penny! Go! Pros: Peking Duck, Chinese cuisine, good for groups Cons: may close early more

Very good food, but very expensive. 7/5/2005

The service is great and the food is just as good - perhaps even better. The proportions are reasonable, but the prices are very very high. Expect to pay at least $30-40 for a noodle or rice dish. Bring over $100 if you're going with a date. I wouldn't say the food is worth the price, but if you're not willing to go to Chinatown, it's really the best chinese food uptown. more

The duck is amazing! 3/25/2005

Midtown and Chinatown locations serve classic Chinese and specialty Peking duck in modern, dimly lit atmosphere crowded by loyal locals.

Owner Message
  • At Peking Duck, we prepare well in advance. Firstly air is pumped into the duck to stretch and loosen the skin, then boiling water is repeatedly spread over the bird, which is then carefully dried, the dried skin is rubbed all over with maltose, and the duck is then roasted in a hot oven for a period of time until the meat is tender and the skin crispy. Then the duck is served with house-made pancakes, green scallions, fresh cucumbers and special hoisin sauce.Private rooms available for Christmas parties.
