I went into Hair Architects expecting to just get a cut and be on my way. Was I Wrong! Joseph spent time talking to me about what I wanted, what he saw and, ultimately, what would look good on me. He is VERY straightforward and honest with you - and he is up on all the latest trends and techniques. He treats you like you are the only client he has that day. He won't overbook and won't try to "squeeze" someone in during your time. That's important to me. My cut looks great ALL the time, and when it starts to grow, still looks good - THAT is the mark of an artist. Trust me, Jospeh KNOWS what he's doing! I had a recomendation from a friend to look on City Search for a place to have my hair done and I came across the Hair Architects salon. I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. I read the reviews and decided to have JON give me a consultation first and then went forward with his recommendation's. I was truly impressed with my outcome. My immediate surprise came from all my friends who noticed the changes immediatley and it was an uplifting feeling to have so many compliments. My haircolor has never looked better and I can take care of my hair much easier. Everyone that worked there seemed so very pleasant . I will return again due to my first experience. I started going to Hair Architects two years ago, when someone recomended Jessica for her excellent facials. I was hooked from that time. I've been living in Portland for 10 years and haven't experienced such excellent customer service in any other salon. Her facials are out of this world. I get so many compliments from everyone on how good my skin looks, even from experts on the field. I don't like going from one salon to another, so I tried Susan for my pedicures. There are not enough words to describe her work. Susan's pedicure is the best in town hands down!!! My ugly feet have never looked this good... I can even say they are cute! I was grateful I was able to get a last minute cut for a wedding I'm attending this weekend however I didn't realize the cut would be given by someone who appears to normally have some other function at the salon (shampoo person?). For the last five years I have played it safe with the same very long, very strait, very boring hair... No style to speak of. Jon is absolutely incredible. The inspiration was evident in his eyes and I completely trusted him to my hair, even when length was to be lost. He is a complete delight to talk with. I was entirely pleased beyond expression. I have been going to Susan at Hair Architects for a couple of years now and I would recommend her to ANYONE!! I work downtown in the Pearl District and I drive all the way to SW just to see her. Her manicures that she does on me lasts longer then any other nail place I have been to. On my feet she uses the blade that makes them so soft. Her room is very nice and private. She is in the middle of getting her nail room remodeled, and according to the pictures, it's going to be BEAUTIFUL!! Pros: Her Knowledge Cons: None more

I found Hair Architects through CitySearch - based upon the reviews that were here. I am so glad I did! My sister is a hair stylist in the bay area, and I've had to wait and schedule appointments with her when I was in town. I had finally gone too long without a highlight weave and cut. So - I found Hair Architects here on CitySearch. Needless to say - I am very picky about the quality of a color/highlight and cut. I've lived in both Connecticut and Washington D.C. and was hard pressed during those times to find a good hair stylist. Jon recommended a different method of coloring that he learned in France @ the L'Oreal Institute. It turned out beautiful! The "streaking lines" that had built up over the years of highlights are now gone. The color is shiny, but not brassy. This method is supposed to last longer than the weave. Because of his experience - Jon knew just the kind of cut I was looking for... given I work, have a family,.... and have very little time for hair in my day. Jon did an excellent job! I happened on to the citysearch website in a desperate attempt to find someone who could repair the awful color job that a NW salon had done to my hair. Which goes to show you that the uptown salons are as artificial as the stylists in them are. While their claim to fame maybe the name and location the staff is clueless and very unskilled. Which is why I needed help in the worst way. I read about JON on the review section and made my appointment blindly hoping for a good experience for once in my life. This was such a relaxed and friendly salon experience and my fears were put to rest when he challenged the problem with color information that no other stylist had ever explained to me and I understood it all and allowed him to take control and I have NEVER liked my hair better. My color has turned heads and gotten numerous compliments. This is a first for me and now I will always expect the best and now I know where I can get it with no attitude and years of professionalism. If you have any doubt I hope this will dispel any fears. Joseph at Hair Architects is an excellent hair dresser. He is highly skilled with an excellent sense of style. He listens to what his customers want and works hard to make them happy. He has colored and cut my hair for almost two years now and I am always very happy with the results that I have gotten. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a hair dresser. Found this site on the citysearch website and went in the salon for a consultation first and took a chance for an appointment. The overall experience was very relaxing and JON knew exactly what to do. I had been told of the many hours this process would take, however his skills proved to be quick and accurate. I have NEVER had such control over my own hair. Now I can say let the rain fall and not go into a panic mode because of my hair. It is a very nice salon and the people are very helpful and interesting. I will look forward to my next relaxer. If you want to do this, I would recommend it highly. I just returned from my first time at Hair Architects and spent the whole ride home crying. This was absolutley the worst haircut i have gotten in a very long time. It is uneven and shaggy. The woman who cut my hair, "Joy", did not speak one word to be the entire time and did not seem concerned at all with what she was doing. I would NOT recommend this hair stylist at all. more

I saw an advertisment outside that made me stop in and give this place a chance. After having much havoc placed on my head over the last few years I figured it could not be any worse than I have experienced here in the Portland area, for so-called Hair Salons that have a name. Some TOP NAME salons that were just terrible and horrifying. I encountered the owner first hand and he knew his business well. The skill at which he cut was amazing and the color he did was EXACTLY what I had been asking for , for UGH...... 10 Years. Anyway to make this short and finished, he was brilliant and I could not be more pleased. Give his salon a visit, everyone was so freindly and the wine was oooo soooo good. As a law student at Lewis and Clark College, I am usually pretty busy and don't have much time to get away from the books. But when my roommates complain about me looking shaggy, I KNOW that it's time to get another haircut. I got my first haircut at this shop about 8 months ago, and it was great. The appointment was on time and I didn't have to wait for anybody, which was good. Joseph was really helpful and we decided on a great style for me. I liked that he took the time to chat and learn what was important to me, and that is why I have gone to him since then. I used to go to the Barber Shop nearby, but it really sucked. I've had many great experiences at Hair Architects, since moving to Portland two years ago. The staff are always friendly and I feel welcomed there. It is a cute shop, with lots of fun posters and movie memorabilia to keep me visually occupied while "getting done". Joseph is great at what he does, and really makes me look good. Coloring and styling my hard-to-deal-with mop seems to be his specialty. I've had a lot of haircuts and styles through the years, but I now have people ask me about my hair and really like it a lot. That is pretty cool! I know that Joseph's old salon in Beverly Hills must be sorry to have lost him, but California's loss is Portland's Gain. AND MINE!! Thanks for making me "adorable", Joseph! My hair was curly and out of control... Period. I have had many bad experiences with stylists in the past that knew nothing about how to handle my curls. I was sent to Joy through my co-worker whom also has curly hair. I was happy to hear that Joy also has curly hair herself and knew what worked and what didn't. I explained to Joy my issues with my hair and she instantly knew the best thing for it. She is very experienced with naturally curly hair and I felt very comfortable sitting in her chair. Feeling her confidence while she worked made me feel very relaxed and for once I didn't have to worry about what the stylist was doing. I was very pleased with my service and have not thought about going anywhere since. I love her and the work she does and would recommend her to anyone!!! JOY ROCKS!! more

I have never received so many complaiments on my hair, I was recommended to Cynthia from a girlfriend and thought her hair always looked great, and I was ready for a change. I have always been very praticular with my hair and only go to the best salons, but the colors(3 different shades of blond) and the cut that Cynthia gave me is the BEST ever!!! every- where I go people comment on my hair. This place is truly amazing - I've had facials before but Jessica is amazing! She recommended the "crystal free microdermabrasion" and I have to admit, I was a little scared at first. She was so right! My skin has not felt and looked this good in a long time. My friends keep asking me if I'm in love I'm glowing so much. She also did the extraction part with no pain. That's a first for me! Then she even gave me samples galore of SkinCeuticals to use after my facial. Needless to say I am now hooked. Thanks for my glowing skin!! At First the idea of having my hair relaxed was a bit scary, but I took the plunge. My hair has NEVER been this controled and I have NEVER EVER gotten the compliments and comments that I get on my new image.
