Great food! 10/5/2008

I love thai food, try to eat at as many thai places as possible. This one hits the spot every time. I love their soups, the duck curry is elegant and wonderfully prepared...just ask for the sauce on the side to rpeserve the crispiness. The staff is friendly and very welcoming. Thank God we live just down the block so we get to come here often! Pros: food, price, location more

Authentic Thai in a Rustic Setting 1/3/2008

Zabb is cutely done in a rustic rather than ultra modern decor that most Thai places seem to be. Located, right around the Irving place area, it definitely fits the neighborhood. Drinks are reasonable priced and good. I had the Isaan sausage which was good and the spicy basil chicken fried rice. They were out of beef, my first option. Food was good but spicy. Really, beware. This isn't your run of the mill Thai spicy, the food, deceivingly looked not spicy.......a tiny spoon of chili sauce later, I had to drink a gallon of water to recooperate. I would definitely recommend this place. more

More interesting than typical Thai 10/20/2007

I like this place. Eat here. Bring friends. I didn't try the more standard dishes--typical curries, pad thai, etc.--but there is something special going on here with the Isaan-style food. If you're ready to venture away from the usual Thai fare, try the sausages or one of the very interesting salads. (As a carnivore, Thai salads are meant for me--some have more meat than veggies, though there are plenty of veggie options.) No more BYOB, but that's OK. Spicy stuff all around; proceed with caution. Prices are fair, dining area is spacious, and service was warm and fast. Pros: Unique Isaan-style food, friendly service Cons: Need to offer more items from the Queens location more

Friendly Place, Terrible Food 5/31/2007

Zabb Kitchen was almost completely empty on a warm Friday night in the East Village...now I know why. The place is charming, the staff is very friendly, but the food...well they should FIRE the chef. I had the chicken salad that did not taste like chicken (fried, heavy, spice covering all the flavor), and the house specialty mango chicken...huge (30 pieces of chicken?), and completely drowning in a Ketchup-like sauce...I felt bad for the food, seriously. The sauce was covering everything--there was maybe 1/2 liter of it. I love mangos usually, but not in Ketchup, thank you. As a result I did not eat anything but the bland, plain rice that comes with the food. I left starving! To top it all, the AC was very noisy, and the 2 other occupied tables were having a shouting contest. Te--rri--ble. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Terrible, terrible food, fried and covered in sauce more

vegetarian friendly 8/17/2006

the only northern thai cooking in east village that serves tasty thai b.b.q beef and thai sausages. If the food is too spicy for you dont worry, order mango with black sticky rice or homemade ice cream. they are delicious.......... this is a small cozy place with great food and friendly service Pros: cozy n friendly Cons: reservation needed for large group more
