Simply Excellent 5/18/2010

Located in San Antonio FL - just about as far away from anywhere as you can get - is this small Mexican restaurant - authentic food, amazing tastes, great prices and just about the best service I have ever had at a restaurant in the State of Florida - if you get a chance - try this place. Pros: the food, then the food, then the food - really Cons: Location more

Fantastic! 5/2/2010

Hello, I have been a family friend of the owners for quite awhile now. Every since I first ate there years ago it has always been good. This restaurant is not a 5 star gourmet food joint. Its a very chill little place in a small town. So all these comments with little here and there's are just a minor setback compared to everything that is truly great. There has been a change in management but every company goes through some change. Recipes have been modified and some have a been taken off the menu. But nevertheless, it is still a great place. Bottom line is, if your looking for a good mexican meal, please consider Pancho Villas. Your chair might not be level and the paint might not be pristine, but the food is great. **Before you type what should be the owners personal business, please get the correct information to post online before you make a fool of yourself. What some have said below are completely false** Cons: Small more

Best Mexican Food in San Antonio-been there 4 times 7/31/2009

I was working at the college when I first found this restaurant. I came back with the family 4 times since in 2008/2009 and we have all loved the food. Plenty of free hot chips and salsa when you are seated and the food comes fairly quick even when busy. Seems like a great place for the family since there was not a bar. Staff was always friendly as well. Pros: Authentic Mexican with a family owned touch Cons: small drink menu, can be a wait for larger tables, go early more

back from up North 2/3/2009

Returned recently from up North and headed out to Pancho's Villa for dinner the other night and I have to say that the food is just as good as it has ever been. I had the tamales (with the ranchero sauce) and my wife ate the chile rellenos. All tasted very fresh and the rice and beans are just as we remembered. The restaurant looked good as they have made some nice upgrades inside since we had last been in there. We had a very pleasant dinner despite a short wait in the cold weather. Always look forward to eating some good mexican food at Pancho's. Pros: They now have chocolate deep fried ice cream Cons: No heaters outside anymore? more

Best Mexican food we've found since Texas! 1/27/2009

My husband and I moved from Texas to Port Richey seven years ago, and let me tell you... Never, let me repeat, NEVER, have we found a more satisfying authentic Mexican restaurant in Florida until we stumbled upon Pancho's Villa in the tiny town of San Antonio. They serve very generous portions at an unbeatable price! The food is absolutely delicious and the staff and management make each experience even more delightful! Now that we've found Pancho's, we make our 40 minute drive out there every weekend - it's definitely worth the drive because we always leave full and happy, and always looking forward to the following weekend!!! Thank You Pancho's!!! Pros: Great food and atmosphere! Cons: There's not one closer to Port Richey more

Disgruntled ex-employees 1/22/2009

It is soo obvious that these peolpe writing about this restauraunt in these last few reviews are ex-employees just trying to get back at these folks in San Ann. If you want to know and see the truth for yourselves people just go and eat at both the restaurants and judge for yourselves. And Los Chicos, just give it a rest and have a review spot for your place on here if your up to it. I would like to see what true diner's have to say about your place there because I here the food and the resaurant itself are not so good or clean. more

In response to miltontime 1/22/2009

I totally agree with you on everything.Thats why I stopped going there and found the original owner who started Panchos.Hes out in Zephyrhills at Los Chicos. He opened a new place with all the same people and food .Also he has way better prices, the way they should be. This new guy at panchos came in and jacked up the prices. I dont know the whole story about what happened but just read the rest of the reviews on here and some of them explains it. more

No longer the prize of San Antonio 1/20/2009

Be warned. This is not the same Panchos Villa it used to be. Used to wait for an hour for my spot, now I'll start hunting for a better option. I've lived in San Ann my entire life, and it's sad to see a true landmark go downhill so quickly. My relatives in Tampa used to drive down every month just so we could eat here. \r To start, parking spaces taken up by the staff. My water ""glass"" was dirty. The carnitas tasted old. Prices are WAY too high now. Our waitress was great, but the manager/owner was VERY rude to someone in the back of the restaurant. Everyone in the dining room just stared at each other in disbelief. I honestly think there may be something wrong with him. \r Any suggestions on newer places in Z or SA, please post.\r Thanks! \r Pros: The Negro Modelo was good Cons: too much more

A response to pancho777( He will never be the original owner) 1/16/2009

I know for sure foodcritic got it on the mark about what happened to panchos villa and for those who already came by los chicos you will find the original owner that had his resturaunt taken away from him because of some kid and his nut head uncle.Of course he didnt change the food why would you take a menu away that was created from the original guy who had that place jumping for thirteen years. Also how is that place better? Just because they changed the bathrooms around, Big deal...It never stoped anyone before from coming And no cr@p they are not affiliated with any other resturaunt. The one in zephyrhills had to change the name to los chicos because he didnt want to be affiliated with a place that has such bad rep now.Everyone will see the TRUTH. Just wait!!!! more

Thank You 1/14/2009

The owners and staff at Pancho's Villa Mexican Restaurant in San Antonio Florida would like to wish the folks at Los Chicos much success in there new restaurant adventure. Good luck!\r \r And thanks to everyone for your continued patronage and support of Pancho's Villa. Cheers!\r more

The new owner came in and now the place went downhill 11/25/2008

There has been so much going on with this this restaurant. The new guy came in and took it from the previous owner that had the place for thirteen years. He lost it in a divorce. The wife and new owner even shut the one in zephyrhills down because they wanted all the buisness to go out to san antonio. The previous owner opened his own restaurant up one block away from the old one he had in zephyrhills. He also change his name cause he did not want anything to do with what use to be his family that turned on him. His new place is called Los Chicos its the same food same people just a different name and no bad connections anymore. So if you want the original guy who began panchos villa come by the new zephyrhills restaurant 38300 11th Ave Zephyrhills, FL 33542 \r (813) 782-4894 or (813)788-8848. \r I can guarantee you would enjoy this restaurant alot better than the san ann one.The prices are more reasonalble and you get more for what you pay for. They also have a outdoor patio area where you can eat.As a long time customer of panchos villa its worth the drive to zephyrhills to Los Chicos. more

The best Mexican Food anywhere! Served by people who know what they are doing! Family owned! 3/14/2008

This family owned restaurant is simply the best restaurant I have ever stumbled upon. Great home style atmosphere, always busy with locals (and if that ain't the tip off right there!) and always friendly! Food is A1 the best! I'm not kidding! No MSG, Margarita's are tops! Price is even better! The chips are crunchy but not hard, and the salsa is simply to die for! Love it-love it- love it! Worth the drive although you might need your GPS to help or a google map. Pros: You want to have the best slurping tasty Mexican food ever? This is it! NO MSG!!! Cons: It's a little out of the way, but absolutely worth the drive! more

A little peace of Mexico 1/24/2008

If you want to feel like you are in Mexico, then go visit this great little Mexican restaurant. The environment is nice and clean. It has been recently remolded from the inside and is under new management. The walls are painted with landscapes of Mexico and have nice new concrete floors. \r The Food is a variation of ethnic Mexican food and some Tex-Mex variations (for people who are not into the ethnic Mexican food). The food is great and certainly nothing compared to the Mexican restaurants in the Tampa Bay Area. My favorite dishes are the Chili Verde Con Nopales, Chorizo and Huevos and last but not least are the Carnitas. To top it all of for desert the flan is amazing, and to wash it all down get a class of home brewed sweet tea. \r But besides the food being great, the customer service is excellent. The waitress and the management treat you with respect and consider you part of the family when you are there. more

The Best Mexcian food EVER! 1/18/2007

they have the absolute best Mexican food!!! Yes it is a ""hole in the wall"" place, but the food is excellent. The bathrooms do need some help so just be sure to use your own before going!! It's a quaint little city and I just love it!! Pros: best mexican food Cons: bathrooms more

Mexican, American and Italian 7/30/2006

Horrible atmosphere, ordered 3 distinctly different items, chili relleno, chicken burrito, and beef tamale. All three items were served smothered in chili sauce, and totally unidentifyable from each other. Everything served tasted the same, the refried beans were authentic, but the rice was straight from the local chinese eatery, little flavor with peas and carrots. Childs meal served on a plate so hot it burned the child's hand. Drinks are $2.00 for a single can of soda, with no ""refills."" The chimichanga tasted like it was smothered in peanut butter, still have not figured out how they managed that particular flavor combination. A lot of locals, with a lot of waiting for very poor quality food and even worse value. Big thumbs down! Don't even get me started on the very scary bathrooms... Pros: The sopapillas were good Cons: Everything else was nasty more

My second favorite restaurant 5/16/2006

This was my favorite restaurant for a long time, until I discovered Vallartas. It is still good, but somehow less so with the new comparison. The service is definitely a million times better as they are very attentive and friendly. This place is always packed on the weekends, so expect a wait. more
