Great Service Very Affordable 9/28/2011

I was very pleased with the service and staff. I went to another vet in the area but every time I called they could not see us. I called before lunch one time and they told me to go to Academy East. That was a mistake because the staff at Academy East was friendly and helpful, taking the time to answer my questions and concerns. They got me in quickly despite being busy the whole time I was there. Will definitely be using them in the future! more

boarding was not acceptable 5/29/2011

I am new tot he Fuquay-Varina area and I needed to board my boys (2 yorkies) for a long weekend. This was the only vet I could find with available boarding space. I took my boys in for a visit to meet the vet and because they required a corona vaccine to board them. The vet I met with was nice and friendly, but never introduced herself. There was a wait to get in, but they had an emergency visit, so that was ok... Then I took them in for boarding, there was a long wait to check them in and when I picked them up, the dog bed was covered in urine. My puppy must have had an accident the first night, and since it wasn't taken care of, the boys had used it for their elimination needs. This means that they were not taken out often enough! Also when the boys got home they were backing away from people (including me) and running around like they weren't let at at all over the 3 days they were boarded. I cannot support a vet that does not take care of dogs left in their care more

Don't seem to care if they lose customers 9/2/2010

Had been great for several years, but I have changed our vet. Academy East sat on a prescription request from Petmeds until the 4th business day. They finally faxed the prescription after I called them at 9:30AM on 9/2/10. The receptionist (Joyce) said she saw the request Monday morning, August 30th, and wondered why it was still there Thursday morning. She said she'd find out and call me back. 6 1/2 hours later I stopped in because nobody had called me. I was informed they had faxed it, but I knew I'd run out of medicine because of the shipping time on Labor Day weekend. I asked for a few pills to get us through. The had the audacity to try and charge me almost $1 per pill while Petmeds has 180 pills for under $40, including shipping. I explained I wouldn't need any pills if they had faxed the request back to Petmeds in a timely manner. I asked if I could just borrow a few and return them when my supply came in. The answer was no because they vet couldn't confirm the manufacturer of the meds I'd receive. That part is understandable. Once I realized they were sticking to their guns and planned on charging me for pills I only needed because of their procrastination, I told them we'd take our 3 pets elsewhere. I don't know if anybody even bothered to say anything to try and convince me to stay with them. My new vet has already requested copies of our records. more

Hurry Up and Wait 7/22/2010

My first appointment at this vet didn't start us out on great footing. We arrived in time for our appointment (early, actually) only to sit in the waiting room for 20 minutes. This seemed unreasonable considering we were one of the first appointments of the day. The next time I had to bring the cat in, it was about the same. Even if you show up on time for your appointment, expect you'll have to wait. And then once you get inside the room, the appointment feels rushed. I spoke with someone else recently who echoed my sentiments of feeling rushed while meeting with the vet. When you get OUT of the waiting room, expect to wait to pay your bill, since there is one receptionist who is simultaneously taking calls, checking people in, checking people out, or retrieving animals from the back. I also had an issue recently with my cat having a urinary problem, which ended in their telling me to put her on Hill's Science Diet, a prescriptive dry food, permanently. I have done my research on pet food and know that Science Diet is really junk food, so I am immediately skeptical of any vet who recommends this change. (for those wondering, kitty switched to a different, more complete dry food and is doing just fine now) We will be using another vet from now on. Pros: friendly staff Cons: wait time, BUSY, appt feels rushed more

Like a family member 11/19/2009

As I write this my heart is probably heading towards a heartache. It was over ten years ago when we brought Elmo into our lives. Along with Elmo came his pack Flame, Mitchell, Suzanne, Petey, Little Red, Vinney, Rookie, Junior, Clemintine , Rosey, Thorne, Sportster and so many others. You see they were show dogs . I first met Dr., Padfield at her open house where Santa came and let the dogs sit on his lap. It was halarious. All these chowchows sitting with Santa. I knew she was the vet for me. She was the only person I would let have access to my dogs. Not only do I love Academy East my dogs do as well. So now after all this time and mostly happy times it all comes down to this... Dr Padfield looked up at me when we had to put Flame down crying and said"" she was one of my first patients""and now the Patriarch St. Elmo's Fire (Elmo) . Another thing I love about Dr. Padfield is her commitment to orphaned cats. I have never known her to turn her back on any animal. In addition She also helps me out with my birds. Dr Padfield Is like coming home and I highly recommend her. Pros: Compassionate more

Wonderful Veterinarian 5/1/2006

Dr. Padfield is excellent veterinarian. We have had pets for more than 40 years and Dr. Padfield is the best vet weve been to. She and her staff are extremely knowledgeable and the facilities are modern and very clean. Academy East is the only clinic in the area that does grooming and boarding. Pros: Full Service more
