Saved my kitty's life 12/5/2011

I've been going to this veterinary clinic for over a dozen years. Recently my dear old kitty developed a cancerous lump on her hind leg. Dr. Grossen detailed all of the risks associated with operating to remove the tumor. She was very patient with me while I weighed whether or not to proceed with the operation on a kitty of her age. I finally decided to go ahead with the surgery. Dr. Grossen did a fabulous job of removing the tumor leaving a small, tidy scar. My kitty fully recovered. I cannot thank Dr. Gossen enough for her compassion & skill. more

Awesome! 12/5/2011

I have been taking my pets to Pacific Vet for about 12 years. I usually see Dr. Pierce or Dr. Grossen, but they have been seen by all of the veterinarians there. The Doctors at Pacific have helped me with some very difficult decisions over the years. They have always been compassionate, caring and knowledgeable. The office staff is friendly and helpful. They are open 7 days a week. If you have ever had an emergency with your pet on the weekend you know how valuable that is!! more

The Idea of every taking my pets here again is a joke!\r Have you ever met Dr. Grossen?! ha! stay away! nothing but a bad temper and shes def not afraid to show it, even if it means embarrassing herself and her employees in front of clients!!! And they seriously dont deserve that! If you cant show your employees respect....what makes you think id leave my dog alone with you?! more

Great vet, convenient location and hours 4/24/2011

My cat has been a patient of Pacific Veterinary Hospital for about five years. I see primarily Dr. Grossen, though I've seen other Drs occassionally too and like them all. Dr. Grossen is very personable, knowledgeable, and gives practical advice and recommendations. There prices are reasonable and I LOVE being able to take my cat in on the weekends rather than rearranging my work schedule to get him there during the week. more

I will never take my animals anywhere else! 3/16/2011

I first brought my cat, Scout to here a few years ago because it was in my neighborhood and she needed to be spayed. They took excellent care of her. Several months later she started getting sores and swelling in and around her mouth, they diagnosed her with eosinophilic granuloma complex and have done a wonderful job treating her. At first she was afraid of her kennel and going to the doctors (like any cat) but now she is almost excited to go and not afraid at all, she loves the doctors (particularly Dr. Frost and Dr. Nolte) and staff there, and they know us by name! Even though I am no longer living in the same neighborhood and they are a little out of our way, I refuse to take her anywhere else because I know she won't get better care than she does at pacific veterinary hospital. more

Horrific Overall 3/9/2011

Please for the sake of your animal, and yourself, Beware. Several of the front desk staff are, sickeningly, white trash like. Rude, abrupt, even abusive. The office manager is a nightmare. Shocking. Highly immature, highly unprofessional. And she shows no understanding of how inept, rude, and intellectually deficient she is. She also harassed us several times. The grounds of the building are filthy in many areas. A horrible neighborhood. The veterinarians are hasty, they fail to follow the animals case over time. Terrible. more

Dr. Paige Pierce: Excellent 1/16/2011

Dr. Pierce is one of the finest vets that I have ever had the pleasure of bringing my cats to. She has such an extraordinary way with both the pets and the people. She genuinely has respect for the animals she sees and shows great care. She is so patient and thorough with her exam and explains everything completely. I have shared my life with cats all my life so I've experienced many vets and I have got to say that Dr. Pierce is the finest I've met. She will be my kitty-kids vet for as long as I'm graced with them. more

Best vet I've ever been to!!! 6/8/2010

Okay, so I have a beast of a cat when it comes to being seen by a vet or groomer. Couple that with the fact that she's a long hair kitty and doesn't bathe, and you have a matted, unhappy feline friend on your hands. In the past I have had absolute nightmare experiences with trying to get my cat groomed (shaved is a better expression). Either she was mishandled by someone that didn't listen when I told them that she really needs a light tranquilizer or the job will be most difficult, or she was not able to be shaved because many vets will not groom a sedated kitty. Bottom line, she deserves to be treated well, regardless of how strong and upset she can be. Pacific Vet recognized all of her needs, took wonderful care of her and even charged me LESS than they quoted me! They said that they didn't need as much of the tranquilizer as planned and passed that saving on to me. My kitty looks fantastic, but more importantly, she feels great. I have my playful, happy cat back, all thanks to the fantastic staff at Pacific Vet. I have referred everyone I know there, and they all have great things to say. Thank God for Pacific Vet!!! They are truly the best, and I have been EVERYWHERE in Portland. Pros: Patient, knowledgeable, kind staff Cons: None! more

excellent clinic 5/21/2010

I have been bringing my dogs here for 14 years. They have always provided wonderful care and taken the time to explain things and give me options. I usually see Dr. Grossen and Dr. Frost. I really appreciate how they keep in touch with me if I have to leave my dog. And even though my dogs have been very sick and had some surgeries there, they still don't get upset about going in....actually seem to like it there!\r Pros: wonderful vets, open 7 days/week more

Long time satisfied customers. 3/25/2010

We have been taking our pets to Pacific Veterinarian Hospital for about 15 years and have always had a good experience. Dr. Grossen has been our primary veterinarian. She has always been been kind, caring, and very professional. Her treatment of our animals has always been effective, even with pets who had challenging medical issues. We appreciate Dr. Grossens laid back style that is so much more comforting than vets who sometimes get agitated and tend of over treat. One of the things we like about the clinic is the vets coordinate well together. If Dr. Grossen is unavailable when we have an emergency there is always another vet available who can step in and take care of things. Over the years we've had experiences with all of the vets at Pacific Veterinary and have never had a problem. Pros: Very professional, quality service, excellent vets, Cons: Office help not great, but they're getting better. more

Outstanding vet! 11/8/2009

Dr. Pierce is a wonderful, caring vet! She is really smart and takes plenty of time with her patients. She is good at setting the animals at ease and communicates well with their humans. We completely trust her advice. She has had to make a house call to help put our elderly dog to sleep and could not have been more gentle, kind and considerate of our feelings. Pros: Knowledge, compassion, very personalized care more

Excellent pet care at reasonable prices 11/13/2008

This clinic in SW Portland staffed by 5 vets and open 7 days a week is the only place I would take my two cats. I have seen three of the vets here (Drs. Twardzik, Nolte, and Grossen) in both routine check-up and very-sick-cat situations, and they have all been terrific - mellow and gentle with the cats, solicitous and very professional with me. When my anti-social cat became very ill, they were able to get him seen quickly, make him comfortable, and took the time to call me at work with updates on his condition and a treatment plan. I'm happy to say that he is back to his healthy, happy self now and doesn't even seem all that scared on return trips to the office! The office staff and technicians that I've dealt with have been wonderful as well - they seem to like both their colleagues and the animals (not always the case at my last vet). Their prices have been extremely reasonable for the level of care, and they don't seem to ""push"" unnecessary or expensive diets or procedures as other vets sometimes do. In addition to cats, they see a lot of dogs as well (it's a pretty dog-heavy neighborhood), and I would certainly recommend them to any pet owner in the area. Pros: open 7 days a week, plenty of parking, clean, friendly Cons: haven't found any yet! more

wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else 11/9/2008

I've taken my dogs to Pacific Vet for 14 years and would not take them anywhere else. The staff and Drs. are caring, loving and very helpful. Dr. Pierce in particular is very good. She talks to the animals in a soothing voice and takes as much time as needed to make sure animals and ""parents"" are comfortable and all questions and concerns are answered. I've had to have one dog, a cat and a hampster go to their eternal rest and paige was right there with us through it all. Do your dogs get as excited about going to see their vet as they do about a trip to the dog park? Mine do! Can't say enough about this vet. Awesome! (Sorry to say I don't recommend Dr. Frost, but everyone else is wonderful) more

Reliable and friendly 10/8/2008

We have used this vet for many years and for several pets. I particularly like that they have a variety of vets that I like. They have lots of hours that fit my schedule. They are able to work with older and/or grouchy pets. From desk staff to kennel staff--they all seem to care about my pets. Their prices are reasonable. One down side is that the waiting list for surgery is a month or so out. We have used their kennel too and our pets didn't complain. more

My dog has been injured here TWICE! 3/28/2008

Our retired greyhound used to see a vet here and the vet was fine. However, we also used to board our beloved dog there while out of town. The first few times went smoothly, but then one time he came out of the kennels, tail wagging, jumping everywhere like he does, and was leaving a bloody trail behind him that NONE of the techs noticed, or else cared not to point out. They had no definite answer for what had happened to him and just assumed he had sliced his pad on the lip of the kennel. They bandaged it for him once i started to make a fuss and all was ok. I did not want to go back, however my DH gave them the benefit of the doubt. The very next time he stayed there it coincided with a surgery ... apparently he slipped off the surgery table and ended up with a gash in his thigh that required stitches and antibiotics. Needless to say, we will not let our dog within 10 feet of that place any more and i just thought people should be aware of our experience. Pros: The staff were nice, but apparently not well trained. Cons: My dog was injured twice here - enough said. more

My dog has been injured here TWICE! 3/28/2008

I was looking for a boarding place and noticed that Pacific Vet Hospital is listed under that heading ... I have never met Dr. Grossen and cannot comment on her. Awesome Veterinarian 9/23/2007

I don't care what the former employee sez, Paige Pierce is the best. I have been going to Pacific Vet for 20 years, and my only complaint, which is small, is the time I only had my AMEX Card, which they don't take, and the young woman ( might the one in the previous review) wouldn't let me take my dog home or get her meds til I came back with payment they would accept. There was a time that I had an account there, which is no longer available. Paige came to my home when my aging dog needed to go to her eternal sleep. Paige had already made the time in her schedule (she knew it was time). Dr. Pierce was very calming, loving, caring, and even held me & cried with me when it was over. SHE IS A 10 IN VET CARE IN MY BOOK.\r Ebony's Mom more

Terrific Vet 3/5/2007

We began taking our pets to Pacific Veterinary Hospital about 10 years ago to see Dr. Andrea Frost...who is terrific (see my review).. One day, I had a kitty become ill suddenly and Dr. Frost was out of the office that day...I was so nervous to see anyone else. How thrilled I was to meet Dr. Grossen. She quickly put me and my sick kitty at ease. She's calm,, got a great sense of humor and has some truly amazing diagnostic skills. My last little family of kitties lived long lives (all reaching about 18 years of age). When called, Dr. Grossen came to our home so that my much loved kitties could spend their last moments with us at home. I'll always be so greatful for the sense of unhurried, peacful calm she brought with her on those sad occasions. You just could not ask for a better DVM. for your pet or a kinder support person for yourself. more

Excellant veterinary care delivered with love 3/5/2007

I had the good fortune to find Pacific Veterinary Hospital about 10 years ago. Since that time, Dr. Frost and her wonderful partners (especially Julie Grossen) have cared for my family of kitties through illness such as lymphoma, complex surgeries (bizarre biliary tumors) and finally, with compassionate end of life care, coming to my home so that my much loved pets and I could have our final moments at home together. Their prices are very reasonable and they don't order a bunch of tests that are unneccesary. As long as I live in Portland, they will be my family veterinarians.\r kozmickitty more

Excellent Vet 7/11/2006

I've taken my standard poodle, two ferrets and currently my two miniature schnauzers to Pac Vet and in particular Dr. Pierce. She's an excellent vet! She spends as much time as needed to give proper care to my pets and answer any questions I may have regarding their care. I'm moving to Mexico soon and Dr. Piece has spent a large potion of time putting together a 1st aid kit in anticipation of any problems the dogs might have. I appreciate her effort very much. I can't say enought good things about her. Pros: Great vets, good staff, great place to board pets Cons: A bit spendy more
