PSOAS, an excellent massage. 1/14/2006

I relocated here from New York City back in March. During the move, I think I pulled a muscle in my upper back and was in pretty bad shape. I called PSOAS on my wifes recommendation. I spoke with Jennifer and told her my problem. That particular day I was in pretty bad shape and I was hoping for something that week. I nearly fell out of my chair when she said she would try to move her schedule around to fit me in that day. She did and three hours later I was on the table having her not only dig into my back, but also stretching me out. While I think the former felt good and relieved some pain, Im convinced it was the latter that really helped me begin to heal. PSOAS emphasis on stretching is what keeps me coming back. These guys know what theyre doing. more

Great skill, attitude and consistency 1/12/2006

Jenny and her team are outstanding at bodywork. They aren't a salon. They aren't a spa. They are a massage and bodywork studio that understands what it takes to be well. As an athlete, I understand that the price of physical performance comes with the potential cost of injury and repair. Putting time and money into your body is a worthwhile investment. I am happy to refer Jenny and her team to everyone I know! Pros: Skilled, Professional, Consistent Cons: None more

Fantastic Massage 10/1/2005

I went to Psoas with recurring sciatic pain that often made it difficult to stand for any length of time - Jenny and Scott knew just what to do - rather than just rubbing my back, they did deep work on my psoas and other muscles. After 6 weekly sessions, I've been pain free for 5 months - now we're working on loosening up some of the other trouble spots. I've seen lots of massage therapists and these guys are definitely two of the very best! Because Psoas is owned by the therapists who work there, they seem to care just that little bit more about the results they achieve. more

Nora is a gem 9/8/2005

I had the opportunity to work with Nora who is new to the studio. For the initial massage she did a thorough check noting that the next time we should focus on the upper half of my body. Later on I had neck pain and so had session 2, using her suggestions. When it ended she said to come in two more times closer together. I was suspicious, but went a 3rd time. When I walked in I told her I wouldn't be able to come again- to expense. I was blown away. She focused on the issue at hand, responded to my financial needs with respect. At the end of the final session she gave tips on keeping my neck happy. Nora is a solid massage therapist: compassionate, professional, knowledgeable, not pushy, suggests physical therapy when better suited, and works with at your level to make you feel healthier. Pros: noise from street Cons: skilled, super friendly more

Amazing Sports Massages for Triathletes! 8/9/2005

Psoas is incredible! I started going for back pain when I was training for the Ironman. Sara took the time to listen to my problem and then displayed incredible knowledge as she worked out the pressure points and muscle tension. Her treatment made a real difference in my training, and I now consider massage a necessary part of my training regimen. Beyond the massage, Sara also gave me many pointers to prevent the pain from starting. I manage a local triathlon team and refer all of my participants to Psoas. You can't go wrong with these guys! Pros: Knowledgeable staff, Free parking, Comfortable rooms Cons: What cons? more

Not just a PRO... but also a Teacher!! 3/24/2005

First, Scott scrutinazed my posture. Next, he pointed out several facts (see how your left hip is higher?... look in the mirror here... notice how your left shoulder is raised?) finally, he made several suggestions as to better "ergonomic set ups" for my work space, as he worked out every last bit of stress my poor, aching body could hold on to. This is no BACK RUB, kids; this is THERAPY! I walked out feeling pounds lighter and with a bounce back in my step. The environment is not a luxurious spa feel, rather a down-to-earth well crafted office/lounge, replete with nice local art work. The best part (aside from the total heavenly massage) was the music... none of that tired new age blather, but instead, I was relaxed and energized by Zero 7, Iron & Wine, etc. (Nice playlist guys.) Pros: advice, environment, skill Cons: can't think of one more

Jenny finds your pain! 3/16/2005

I run a few times a week and stand on my feet quite a bit for work, so I went in to my massage with Jenny with more than a few "issues". During our session, she not only found the source of my discomfort but released it with her amazing trigger point massage. It felt like the pain was diffusing from within the muscle rather than from the outside. It was awesome and I felt great afterward. Jenny walked me through some beneficial stretches to target those muscles so I can work on them in between sessions. I highly recommend Jenny for your next bodywork session. Pros: validated parking, Nice space, Relaxed atmosphere more

Excellent 3/16/2005

OUtstanding massage expertise. Not the most amazing decor, and definitely not a spa, but if you're looking for a phenomenal massage, this is the place. more

Healing Hands 3/8/2005

My physical therapist recommended Sara after I was hit by a car. Sara's treatments have brought me from barely being able to sit or turn my head to full recovery. "Massage" doesn't do her bodywork justice. I've been massaged at Claremont, Silverado, Ojai Valley, Murietta Hot Springs, Chaminade, but Sara's touch is entirely different. She has an intuitive feel and uses specialized techniques to address specific body issues. No smelly oils or generic full body massage, just unscented cream that won't stain and individually tailored sessions. Psoas is within walking distance of the financial district with hand-painted walls and rotating art. Psoas is not a spa for lounging in robes drinking cucumber water with massages that smell good but have few body benefits. Sara cares about making you feel better, noting techniques your muscles respond to, your problem areas, and recommending stretches to minimize pain between sessions. Worth every penny. Pros: convenient, free parking, evening hours more

Outstanding Massage! 2/28/2005

This place is AWESOME. My wife treated me to a massage here and it was terrific. Ken made me feel very comfortable and asked me if I had any particular problem areas. Not really, so he just went to work from my scalp to my feet. Very professional, very skilled and strong without being painful. After the massage, he gave me a quick little exercise I can do on my own to keep my back from tightening up. Very helpful. The ONLY drawback for me was that the walls seemed a tad thin and I could hear muffled voices and doors in the hall. Pros: Staff, Environment, Privacy Cons: A bit hard to find more

More than Massage 2/22/2005

Working with Jenny at PSOAS is an entirely different experience from most massage. Of course, she does excellent bodywork - manipulating, stretching and moving my muscles and joints in ways that increase range of motion and overall performance. But Jenny also works with you. She often shows me new stretches or exercises that help work my specific areas of inflexibility or stiffness. What impresses me most about Jenny is that she is really interested in being a partner in my training regime. She consistently remembers what issues I am having from session to session and will focus on working the areas she knows need the most attention. Jenny is very interactive. She constantly seeks feedback and refines her technique to match what works best for my body. Jenny has definitely helped me to reach a new level in my personal fitness. Pros: excellent staff, great location, pleasant environment Cons: none more

Phenomenal 2/16/2005

For years I've been trying different methods to address my chronic neck/shoulder pain. I would generally end up at the chiropractor after waking up and not being able to turn my neck. This cycle continued until I was introduced to Scott. Although I refer to my appointments as massages, they are much more than that. We do seated work in which I am an active participant, he educates me about stretches and exercise, and his deep tissue work is phenomenal. Since my first visit to Scott, my pain has decreased dramatically. He has an uncanny ability to zone in on my problematic areas and I have never left a session not feeling better. Oh, and did I mention Scott has a great personality and a fantastic sense of humor?! I highly recommend Psoas Massage and Bodyworks for anyone seeking therapeutic, attentive and highly skilled bodywork. more

Essential Part of my Training Regimen 1/13/2005

I am a martial artist and have had pain for the past twenty years. The aches in my calves, feet, abdomen, and shoulders made it difficult to even get out of a car. It has been about a year since I started actively pursuing treatment to resolve these issues and was fortunate to find PSOAS. Sara's skill and knowledge has helped me immensely. With a combination of muscle work, stretching, breaking up adhesions, exercises and hydrating my muscles, I am a different person! I am feeling a hundred times better. I am from San Jose, so every session at PSOAS is a 3 hour, 100 mile trip for me. I have tried many local CMT's and have been considered by many to be a tough case, but am having the best results with Sara; definitely worth the drive up. Thanks! Owen Pros: skilled, good facilities, very therapeutic more

The next level 9/3/2004

"Massage is an invaluable tool for the adventure racer during both training and most importantly after a race. I am certifiably the most inflexible person known to massaging hands...until Jenny! I have been to many "massages in box" or ultra therapeutic/aromatherapy circuses; this was different. Jenny was the first person to figure out how I became a literal "muscle knot". She focuses on what really hurts and knows how muscles are interconnected. I couldn't believe that somebody actually took the time to stretch me out prior to giving me a massage! I feel dramatic recovery results after each visit. Specifically, my range of motion and power have increased dramatically leading to fewer aches, pains, and cramps while racing. The sessions are effective because she listens and learns. I need a massage without the flowing water fountains and scented candles; I look no further. Thanks Jenny." Pros: Quality over quantity, Personal, Effective more

Best massage ever! 8/25/2004

I brought my aching dad to PSOAS for a massage as a birthday gift. He's an extremely tough critic and has had many massages elsewhere. However, after his 1 hour session with Jenny, he couldn't stop raving about it! Jenny was friendly & knowledgeable, & she put my dad at ease. He loved how she catered to his individual needs, unlike most massage therapists who pretty much give all of their customers the same routine massage. My dad's pain melted away & he felt relaxed for the first time in weeks. Moreover, the massage was an amazing value; I've paid twice as much at day spas for massages that were half as good. PSOAS boasts a return rate of over 90%, & rightly so... My dad's already planning on scheduling another session! Pros: Excellent massage, Excellent service, Excellent value more

Scott heals hamstrings 7/12/2004

After over 10 years of recurring hamstring problems including a tear, I started seeing Scott. In about 2 months the tear was healed and I could start running again. My flexibility is better than it has been in years, and my speed is coming back! His knowledge and care for his clients make him a unique massage therapist. Highly recommend him! Janie, going for marathon number 17 Pros: knowledge, flexibility/caring more

Scott Schwartz got me back on my feet 6/20/2004

I'm 54 and have had a very physical lifestyle. While I was still active, chronic problems held me back like runner's leg problems, a weak lower back, pinched nerves in my arms and neck and tense shoulders. Scott Schwartz has a remarkable knowledge of the body and its interdependencies. This knowledge combined with therapeutic massage work has gotten me back into the game. My strength has returned. I'm confident. Pain is gone. He has also provided me with the tools to remain mobile, flexible and injury-free on my own. I recommended Scott to a friend and he too has experienced a significant reduction in pain and swelling and a return to normal activities. The craniosacral massage by Sara helped me unwind after a stressfull period at work. These people provide the best value for the dollar in my book. Nick Parham, marketing and business consultant Pros: excellent value, regained mobility, reduced pain a lot more

Scott Schwartz review 6/1/2004

Over the years, a number of massage therapists, physical therapists, doctors, and other professionals have treated me for repetitive strain injury. But no one has been more effective than Scott Schwartz in alleviating my pain and helping me heal. What sets Scott apart is his desire to constantly broaden his knowledge of anatomy, his eagerness to find new approaches to achieve better results, and his deep empathy. Scott is much more than a massage therapist. He is your advocate, your counselor, and most of all, your friend. -- James A. Martin, writer more

Not just a feel good massage 5/24/2004

I spend about 4 days a week playing and training for ultimate frisbee. In the middle of the summer my body starts to tighten up, specifically my IT band. At first I tried to stretch on my own and play through the pain, but I quickly realized I needed professional bodywork. Jenny knew exactly the kind of work that I needed for my active lifestyle. Jenny provided me with instant and longer term relief from my ailment. Come July I know exactly who I need to visit for preventetive measures and relief. The practice is extremely professional and effective, in an incredibly comfortable and soothing environment. Pros: effective, comfortable, personable more
