Stadium Experience 2/17/2006

PGE Park is a true stadium experience, although with small time sports teams. We have enjoyed high school football and minor league baseball there, both in the hot summer and the cool fall weather. As an outdoor stadium weather can certainly affect the atmosphere. The seating is standard fair… unless of course you have a luxury box… which include couches, tables, refrigerators, televisions, VCR and of course an excellent view! The food and drink prices are outrageous, but I guess we have all come to expect that at any large gathering. If you are a sports fan or simply want an entertaining outside adventure, it is worth a try. more

Fun for all - Watch a ball game 12/20/2005

It's a must do, for every child, adult alike. Ah, the nostalgia it brought back of my childhood watching the Portland Beavers play. It is something I hope my son remembers. Admission is reasonable, seating is plenty, and the stands are clean. Thursdays they run specials, so check before you go. Enjoy something different for a change. more

Family fun! 12/14/2005

This was a great family outing! The park is really neat looking. It has a very historic look and it is really neat how it is right in the middle of the city. Very clean, nice stadium. We got caught in the middle of a rainstorm, but even that was fun. And there are enough covered areas that we were able to move up to a dry area. I would highly recommend this to anyone seeking out some good old-fashioned family fun. more

Take me out to the ball game 8/31/2005

The Portland Beavers are a pretty fun team to go see play ball. I've seen a few of their games and have had a good time every time. The tickets are fairly cheap, but the concession stands are a little high. The team itself is not bad at all either. A good place to bring the family for the day, though baseball always is! more

Inexpensive family fun 8/15/2005

While Portland may not get a Major League Baseball team for awhile, you can still have a great time watching the Portland Beavers take on their Pacific Coast League opponents. Playing their games near the heart of downtown in PGE Park (nee Civic Stadium), the Beavers home games are accessible via the Max light rail. Ticket prices are what you'd expect for a minor league team as are concessions. more

Great park to enjoy a game 8/12/2005

My family and I travelled to PGE park to see the former women's professional soccer team's All-Star game. It was a real treat. First off, Portland has amazing public transportation - even while balancing a newborn on your lap. Then the park itself let us wander around, watching the women warm-up before the game and participating in little activities for the kids. Lastly, the views were great from our nosebleed seats. No worries at all - we were blocked from the evil sun and were able to see down below just fine. The food was also decent and the people, as always in Portland, were super nice and friendly. more

We love going to watch the Beavers play 8/3/2005

This is a great family place to go. The Beavers are fun and entertainint to watch play baseball. I have never seen anything there that i would find objectional for my children to see. The team players are good young men who seem to stay out of trouble unlike someof our other local sports team The blazers. The beaverts have lots of interactive events with the children and you cn go on thursdays which is thirsty thursday and pops are a buck for the kids. General admission seating is very reasonably priced also. more

Catch a baseball or soccer game on the cheap 7/21/2005

PGE Park is home to the Portland Beavers, the minor league affiliate of the San Diego Padres, and the Portland Timbers, a soccer team. Tickets are VERY cheap--like $8--and every Thursday an 8 oz. cup of beer can be had for $1 (even though it's crappy light beer). I don't think anyone goes because they care about the teams--hmm, maybe I just hang out with the wrong people?--but more for the social and drinking aspects. It's a great place to socialize and hang out. In the summer, there are few things as lovely as sitting in the sun, drinking some beer, and being surrounded by your friends. Beware of the bathrooms--they're pretty icky. more

Take me out to the Beer Garden 6/23/2005

When the sun comes out in Portland, old ladies do their heckling on their porch, rather than in front of the tv. Cape clad children run around like deranged mental patients in a lightening storm. Bikers materialize on the side of the road and sun starved citizens earn a crick in their neck for their unfettered appreciation of that glowing orb. And the college students? Well they drink outside, rather than inside. So if, turning cartwheels in Pioneer Place isn’t exactly your cup of tea- I recommend you take a seat at what is legitimately reclaiming its spot in America’s slowly deteriorating heart as its favorite pastime- baseball. (And any country whose favorite pastime is sitting around and drinking while poor fools sweat it out in front for entertainment is a country I can be proud of). Dedicated fans lace through the plastic chairs, patiently waiting for a spot in the luxurious Beer Garden. Oh if only the beer really did grown from the ground. But Thirsty Thursday is terrific; the place is packed and the pints are three dollars. Go early because the garden fills up quickly. And, in a massive lack of foresight on the part of those fools in the baseball park, there are NO BATHROOMS in the Beer Garden – meaning beer swilling fiends have to go all the way back into the main part of the stadium for release, and then wait in the massive line to get back in. My advice: hold it as long as possible, and then just go to the stadium seats- you are there to watch a game after all. more
