When I had just a short time prior to my son being born I knew I wanted someone to come clean our apartment – not just a quick vacuum and dusting but a good thorough cleaning. While we are not true out and out slobs who wade through piles of garbage we really aren’t neat either. I did not have the time or where with all to interview local housekeepers so I went online to find a service. Alas Merry Maids does not seem to service Brooklyn at all. I made several phone calls and got quotes as high as $500 (this included power washing the walls of our two bedroom apartment). I decided to go with Oxford Maids.
The woman I spoke with on the phone was very nice and helpful. She explained that while they do cover Brooklyn they are more frequently in other parts of NYC. She was covered all of the costs involved which I felt were more than reasonable. I loved that for a small fee they brought their own cleaning supplies and even their own vacuum. I spent less than what it would cost to buy all of the products they used and I did not have to store them.
When the crew sent to my home knew they were going to be late due to traffic they called to let me know. Two women and their male supervisor arrived to my apartment. I was pleased that the cleaning crew was not sent alone on their first trip to my home. It made me feel they truly cared about their employees. The gentleman was there to give a final quote based on our home, make sure we did not live in total disarray as well as to make sure the staff was in a safe environment.
The cleaning staff was here for more than four hours. The worked continuously and were always pleasant. My fridge and stove were spotless. They charge an additional fee to clean the insides of these appliances but it is well worth it in my opinion. The place was still our tired small apartment but after they were finished it was tired, old and very clean.
Oxford Maids discounts their rate if you increase your frequency. At this time we are not able to have them come regularly but I look forward to having them in again soon. It gives me a reason to give the place a good once over or as my mother said – a cleaning so the cleaning lady can come. The only problem we had was that while I had told them I wanted the oven cleaned they forgot to bring oven cleaner. They were going to run to a local store to buy some but I actually had a can . . . Not a big deal.
