Going Down Hill 1/30/2011

My husband and I ordered pad thai from Oriental Cafe last night for take-out. Something we do on a regular basis. Over the past year it continues to get worse and more expensive. Last night was the last time we will order from here again. For $9 a meal of noodles is a joke. There was no chicken in the Chicken pad thai, greesy, flavor-less noodles was what we got. I can buy a box of noodles at the store for a $1.00 to feed me for 2 meals....\r \r I would not recommend this to anyone!! This town has no decent Thai places, we were holding out hope for Oriental Cafe but, no more. more

wonder pond 5/21/2009

The food here was great and the price I loved. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves asian food, especially sushi. speaking of sushi, i have to say that not only does its presentation is fantastic, more importantly is the taste. Besides, you are always welcomed to sit in front of sushi bar if you prefer to check right on the action. As the matter of fact, i come here once week at least cause i can't help thinking of those wonderful sushi rolls and japanese tempura shrimp and teriyaki. By the way, the service is a little to be desired , but most of time, they are pleasant and relatively quick. in a word, if there is a pond named wonder, then i guess it will be oriental cafe. Pros: phenomenal sushi Cons: need special on unusual occasion more

Great Sushi 11/28/2008

I really enjoy the food at the Oriental Cafe. Their sushi and pad thai are fantastic. Wait service is a little to be desired, but the quality of the food compensates for it. As a student, dinner prices can be harsh, but luch is a great deal at only about $5. They also have a well stock bar with some good drinks. more

Buffet Quality Chinese food at a Premium price! 4/16/2008

I was a bit weary about trying Chinese food at this place because I had lunch there once before and the wonton soup was awful. I can usually tell if a chinese resturant by thier wonton soup. But since it was close to our hotel and my husband had to be at a meeting soon, I decided to give it another shot. The hostess was really rude, no ""how are you this evening or please follow me""....just ""sit over there"" and she pointed us to a booth. \r \r The server was also rude and very unfriendly...""what do you want to drink"" abrupt and unfriendly. We decided on chicken with garlic sauce($10) on the light menu and crispy shrimp and scallops with coconut cream sauce...($14)I know two end of the eating spectrum. Anyway, I was very disappointed when the shrimp and scallops arrived. It was basically pretty-up buffet food...it was coated in the thick batter and the scallops were sliced so thin, you had to wonder if there was any scallops in there at all. The sauce was basically drizzled on coconut cream and sugar sauce, not very good.\r \r The chicken and garlic sauce was OK. The chicken and vegetable were steamed and came in a bamboo steam basket, however everything was OVERCOOKED. The garlic sauce was decent but once again the same brown garlic sauce that you find on so many chinese buffets.\r \r OH I also ordered Thai Tea, which I didn't see on the menu...this 'Thai Tea was so watered down I could hardly taste any tea or anything else in it...basically sugar water.\r \r Also, they were very stingy with the fried rice that came with the meal...my husband and I both laughed at the small amount of rice they gave us.\r \r I have had Chinese food in LA, New Orleans, San fran, NY, HI, Italy, France, EVERYWHERE! This place has got to be the worst for the quality and value of food! They make it look nice on the inside and make a pretty presentation but you can't fake good food. Don't waste your time or money on this place!\r \r To be fair I have not tried their Japanese or Thai menu. Pros: Nice Decor Cons: Awful Chinese Food more

Great sushi rolls........ best in Winston. 2/15/2008

Generally a good place, especially if you'd like a variety of asian cuisine. Sushi, Japanese and Thai food is pretty good; service leaves much to be desired. Some of the staff are not very friendly, so get the order to go if you can. The tempura on the Japanese menu is great, as are the Rainbow and Typhoon rolls. I find myself having to return there at least every other week. Pros: Great sushi, great variety of asian cuisine Cons: service is not that great more

Great place!! 1/14/2008

Oriental Cafe offers you plenty of options: Japanese, Chinese, Thai, or Sushi. The service is pleasant and relatively quick, for lunch or dinner. They also have a sushi bar if you would prefer to sit right in on the action! Prices are very comparable to other restaurants with similar menus. Pros: Great food, lots of choices!! Cons: N/A more

Diversity 9/21/2006

Really nice service, not rushed but not slow, either. Nice to have choices--thai, japanese, and chinese. The japanese dishes are some you don't see just anywhere--they have donburi! Pros: service, food more
