May not have been the fastest, but Yummy and CHEAP! 6/4/2008

I went through the drive-thru which actually seemed alot slower than walking to the window so I would park if I were actually in a hurry. I ordered the african burrito which includes a mixture of beans and salsas in a wheat tortillas. Not the Most flavorful thing I have ever had but still pretty good, healthy and fulfuilling, and you cant beat the prices for such food. I can't wait to come back and try their veggie burger varieties which I have heard alot about. Definitely beats the other fast food! more

Fulfilling Veggie Burgers, Tasty 'Air' Fries, Variety of Healthy Foods RIGHT DAB in the middle of KFC BK ROSCO'S ... right on! 12/20/2007

This place is a treat. I've had just about everything on the menu. I especially love the 'Orean Salad Burger', gets nice and messy with vegan 'thousand island' like dressing. Its big and burly with sprouts and lots of veggies. I always order extra sauce to dip the crispy baked fries in. I've chatted with Orean, man is always on the go, very activist like energy, hard working establishment. 'Props' to the two women that make and serve all the food... with lines 20 people deep, I still got my hearty 'meal' of a burger in less than 10, piping hot. Good peanut butter shake ... all vegan, natural colas made with pure cane sugar and green juice blend. Theres a drive-thru, good breakfast treats, majority of the menu- tofu, soy-based stuff, too too much may not sit so well. For a quick fix on the nutritionally sound side pop in... its right next to the Burger King and right across from the grease shack aka KFC. There's definetly potential for growth.. lets hope a few more open up around LA! Keep up the sabby-style, wholesome food service. Pros: 10 $ gets a nice meal, tasty vegetarian treats galore... this place is worth stopping in more

Salad Burger! 10/15/2006

I went for the second time today. On my previous visit, I had the Chicken Burger, which has a big ol' piece of crispy ""chicken"" (I think fried probably), sprouts, tomatoes, blah blah.. and it was majorly filling... maybe a little too filling. Tasted incredibly good, though. Today I had the Salad Burger and thought it was delicious. Definitely not as heavy as the Chicken Burger, but it kept me satisfied. I don't know what types of veggies they put in that patty, but it sure was awesome. A note about others' comments on slow service: My friend and I both got our food very quickly at the walk up today. Then again, it was a Monday and there weren't other customers, so that could be why. Anyways, I will be going back again and again.. and I live not all that close in K-Town. I wish they had one closer to me for days when I don't feel like cooking after work. I think an eatery of their kind would do very well in the Silver Lake area (in case you're reading business owners. ) :) more

Supersize This 8/28/2006

OK, you shouldn't expect gourmet at a fast food place, just good fast food! And Orean's is it. I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I'm just glad that there's an alternative. The few times that I've eaten here were great. Give it a try! Pros: Healthy Fast Food more

Save your money 4/2/2006

The idea of a veggie fast food is great and long overdue BUT they need to rethink their business plan. There is no where to sit down and eat. The drive thru intercom wasn't working properly. We tried the chili burger and the cheese burger, two orders of fries and two drinks. The fries were mushy and gross. The veggie burgers were mushy as well and they put WAY too many sprouts on the burger and hardly anything else. We wanted to try a vegan shake but they weren't making shakes the night we went. The cups were styrofoam, not very ecofriendly. I think the ONLY reason this place is staying in business is simply because of the drive thru...because the food certainly isn't bringing people back. I would suggest staying home and grilling a GardenBurger and baking some fries yourself, it will probably taste better!! Pros: Veggie friendly, Drive thru, Natural Foods/Sodas Cons: Mushy Fries, Mushy Veggie Burgers, Building Appearance more

Good vegetarian food 1/20/2006

I wouldn't call the food gourmet, but it is really good and satisfying. Some of my favorites are the African tostada, Hot-O-Dog (WITHOUT the mayo!), pollo burrito, Orean burger and the air fries. A warning to vegans: the soy cheese may contain casein. There really isn't anything fast about this ""fast food"" restaurant. If more than one person has already ordered in front of you, be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes to get your food. Also, the service seems to be friendlier on weekdays. Despite these shortcomings, I like the food and am glad this restaurant exists, especially since there aren't any other vegetarian restaurants in Pasadena. Pros: Inexpensive, Parking lot Cons: Service can be slow, not enough seating, cash only more

Hooray For Authentic Vegie Philly Sandwich! 11/26/2005

Hi, I just wanted to say that they are serving the Vegetarian Philly with faux beef, onions, peppers, soy cheese now. (This dish hadn't been available in my previous visits until a couple of months ago or so). This is a sandwich to die for--so overstuffed that you need a fork to eat much of it and great tasting, too. Especially noteworthy is this is the first time I had vegetarian au-jus--tastes just like the real thing! What an accomplishment! There other food is excellent too, except for maybe the falafel which I remember as too dry, but I haven't had it lately because I can't tear myself away from the vegie philly! Pros: Huge portions, Inexpensive, Vegie Drive-Thru! Cons: Not enough seating, Drink sizes too small, not open late hours more

Fast Food for Vegeterians...Yea 10/17/2005

Orean has one of two of the best Vegeterian resturantes for fast food in Southern California.. I have been going to Orean for over 20 years when he had his first location. If you love BBQ then you must try the Orean Chip Burger. It is a blend of perfect bBQ sauce and Textures Vegetable Protein have w/or without soy cheese. You will have to order two because you will want another later....I have had conversations through the years with the owner and he is passionate about giving the community an alternative to eating meat. I have been a vegeterian all of my life and this is the kind of food I grew up eating...He does a close job to mamas cooking...moms kitchen is always the best...My mom two loved the Chip Burger when I took her... Pros: EXCELLENT, VALUE, FRIENDLY Cons: TO FAR AWAY, TO FAR AWAY, TO FAR AWAY more

nothing less than awesome! 1/21/2003

i don't understand the other two reviews. the food at this place is great. i can't name a single vegetarian/vegan place with better food other than follow your heart in canoga park. the portions at oreans are HUGE and pretty decently priced. the only downside is that the wait in the drive thru line can be somewhat long, but it's plenty worth the wait for food that great and healthy. if you go, you have to try the shakes, hot-o-dogs, soft taco, garden burrito and salad burger. also, if you can stand more food, you have to try the fries, which are oven baked and better than most fries i've had at regular chain fast food places. Pros: healthy, huge portions, cheap Cons: long wait, too far from my home more

Nothing to write home about... 11/3/2002

The service sucks. I won't go back, even though it's one of a handful of vege restaurants in the area. Bland food too. Yawn. The seating wa pretty bad too (outside). Pros: Decent variety, In Pasadena Cons: SERVICE SUCKED!!, Bland, Taco-truck seating more

Good Vegan Fare, Not Great 9/20/2002

This place has an AWESOME menu w/a huge selection. But I haven't had anything delicious there. It all seemed a little bland. And I eat health food all the time, it doesn't have to be so flat. But high marks for such great concoctions, relatively cheap, and super fast. Pros: Vegan milkshakes, Vegan pizzas, Vegan everything Cons: Kinda bland food, Not centrally located more

Great Food! 6/19/2002

I have visited this restaurant for many years and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and filling. The air fries are the best I have ever tasted. The only thing that would make it better would be indoor dining. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Delicious food, Good value Cons: no indoor dining more

Veggie Delightful 6/12/2002

It's wonderful to see a place that can cater to the ""Once Were Meat-Eaters"" crowd. The food was good and the prices reasonable... the decor however needs an upgrade...but I'd still recommend it highly! more

Cheap vegetarian eats. 6/5/2002

Good vegetarian food, but be aware it tends toward imitating meat-like foods with things like soy-based meats and cheeses. If you like this kind of thing, you won't be disappointed; they do a good job of incorporating the soy meats into burritos and burgers quite well. The soy-cheese is very apparent on their pizzas. But if you hate soy cheese and soy meats, this place will not convert you. The oven-baked fries are seasoned well and worth the trip. Pros: Cheap, Fast, Take-out only Cons: No ambiance, Take-out only! more

orean rules 5/16/2002

located in a veritable meat lover's alley (mcdonalds, carl's jr, KFC, roscoe's, taco bell, burger king), orean shines as a beacon of good health. if you've never been, introduce yourself to the veggie fastfood with a ""salad burger"" -- a mound of beans, sprouts, bean sprouts, and veggies jammed in an organic whole weat bun. quite tasty and filling. treat yourself to a non-dairy soy milkshake or soy ice cream on hot days. you won't be able to tell the difference between the soy version and the full fat cow version. get some heart healthy air-baked french fries on the side. all the food is tasty, but they excel at the imitation fast food (hot dogs, hamburgers, the chicken 'o burger, etc.). honorable mention goes to the falafel. i wish there more around town. Pros: great food, soy shakes, no meat more
