I was referred to the endodontic specialists for a tooth problem, basically as a consult as to whether or not I needed a root canal. The first specialist I saw said he wasn't sure, but he would do one "as a precaution". He did. Problem was still there. I was referred back, met with a different specialist who was quite brisk, uninformative, and again said did not know if a root canal was necessary, but he recommended two more be done as a precaution. The problem did NOT go away, it turned out to be a simple allergy to a dental product, but I had 3 root canals, infection, stress, and recommended that my dentist not refer people to them.
