Best

I love this place. My office mates go there after work; they have pool, shuffleboard & darts all together & you can nosh & drink beer on tap. It's great for TGIF.

Worst

I remember when the place first opened. I grew up in Garden Home in the 70's and 80's so I'm very familiar with the location. It used a be a friendly place with good (if not great...

The Worst in Town! 8/9/2005

Not only is the service consistently the worst in town -- the food is not good, but they close off sections of the dining area at any given time. It was bad when they opened and they continue year after year to provide nothing a restaurant goer can enjoy. more

far better than average 7/22/2005

I've been there 4 times in the last two months at different times of the day/week. The service is average at best, (see other comments) The food however was fantastic. The portions are huge for the most part (corn beef rueben is stellar!) even the pasta portions are sizeable. The only negative thing I can say is twice I ordered the rueben and one day I couldnt finish the whole thing it was so huge and plate was overflowing with fries, but the second day is was only two thirds the size. The fries are awesome btw! The prices are on the high side of avg. The atmosphere is ideal for groups, pool and shuffleboard are expensive but worth it for the overall atmosphere. Highly recommended! Every time I have been it has been worth the time/ money. Pros: food portions/quality, atmosphere, beer Cons: service more

You've got to admit it's getting better... 4/13/2005

I have read all these reviews, and must say that each time I have been in, my service has been average, friendly- but not stellar. My recommendation, find a server you like and try to be seated in their section. if you have a good server, be vocal and let them know. Yes, the set up can be ineffective, but remember, it is a pub and the service staff doesn't make the rules. I can say that I feel the food is worth the money and the drink specials Sunday, Monday & Tuesday are worth the ""poor"" service. Lighten up and have a beer! Pros: lotsa perking, drink specials, big groups more

Great, BIG place 1/26/2005

Great as always. I've been coming to the OMP for years, and I love it! I looked at the other reviews, they are pretty old, and I've never had a problem. Try Mr. Toad's, best beer in town! Pros: Great Beer more

Great place, horrible wait staff 9/4/2003

Never in my life besides McMenamins have I been to a place with worse service. The wait staff seem like it is a problem to wait on you, if at all. We have waited for a check for 30+ minutes, beer for 20+ and food an hour. Our waitress forgot to put the order in one time and did not even comp us anything but 1 beer. I love the atmosphere, shuffleboard, pool and TVs for game time, but we go there less and less because the service is downright pathetic. Note to management, let these waitresses in on something: you get paid to do your job--wait tables, if you do a bad job you are not going to get tipped. Pros: Food, beer, games Cons: service, waitstaff, attitude more

HORRIBLE SERVICE 7/3/2003

The food and beer is of mediocre quality and the service is terrible. I was with a large group and I think I was served one beer in the 30-40 minutes that I was there. I had one of their burgers which tasted ok, but didn't get it until I was salivating at the mouth. If you want to go to a place for beer and a burger and undisturbed conversations, this is the place. Pros: Decent beer, Decent food, Large groups ok Cons: POOR SERVICE!, POOR SERVICE!, POOR SERVICE! more

Bring your friends 3/21/2003

The food...well, isnt that great. The ambience, it looks like a gutted out dance hall (oh wait, I think it is.) The service isnt that bad for a brewpub. But the intangibles is what makes this place great. I can't think of a better place to bring a large group to just hang out, eat, and play some pool. more

Do you enjoy a total lack of service? 11/4/2002

The Old Market Pub has pretty decent food and decent brewpub beer. However, it also has a total and complete lack of dedication to good service. In fact, the Old Market Pub has a long tradition of bad service. I live in the neighborhood, and I've been there several times in the last couple of years. I have WALKED out of the restaurant the last three times that I have attempted to patronize it because it was not possible to get a glass of water, let alone beer, within 15 minutes of walking in the door. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone who values their time. more

Our Fav! 8/13/2002

What a great selection of beers. No matter what kind of beer your thirsty for, you'll find it here. They also have a decent food menu, and an area to sit outside it you wish. Definitely worth the drive from the East side of the river. Gotta love that Hot Tamale! Pros: Good Beer selection, Good service, Good food more

Needs help - good help! 5/29/2002

I have been to the Pub since it opened MANY times on my own and attended private parties there as well. I live in the neighborhood and the Racoon has saved me from the hell of trying to get a drink and some dinner out of a staff that acts like you are bothering them when you arrive at the Old Market! The food can be good when you finally get to order and the beer selection is great. Too bad it's so hard to get. Pros: good beer, big space Cons: WAIT STAFF, uncomfortable tables, not kid friendly more

Editorial
  • In Short
Occupying the space originally designed and built for Comella's and Son Market, the pub retains small flourishes of the past. Live plants are suspended by original 1950s produce scales above lacquered pine tables. Old-time wooden signs, large booths and a laid-back atmosphere set the tone for sports fans at the bar and conversation everywhere else. A noisy, open kitchen churns out food that reaches far beyond the average pub grub fare.
