Best

My boyfriend and I visit Oki's all the time. The staff is wonderfull and so is the service! We eat both sushi and hibachi. I love the salad, soup and the sauce is the best.

Worst

I have mixed reviews. Pros: atmosphere Cons: price exceeds quality

Not so OK(i)s 3/29/2012

I've been to Oki's a number of times over the last 10 years but after my last meal there I think that's it unless they fix things. It's sad that it was at one point the best Japanese Steakhouse in R.I. Walking into Oki's it was dirty, dark and dismal. We ordered hibachi and everything was dirty. The lighting is horrible, I think they may have had someone from the Cadillac Lounge set it up for them. The hibachi had a big patch of food (rice I think) from the last group still stuck in the middle of the grill. Even the plates had a sheen of grease from the grill and when one of our party asked for a clean plate the waitress swapped it with another grease covered plate from the empty seat next to me. They didn't bother to even get the water marks off of the utensils. The food was mostly average: I ordered the Chicken and Scallop combination plate and although the Scallops were well cooked the chef managed to divide the it between 3 people by giving one person over 50% of it. He also managed to overcook the chicken and while doing so consistently splattered me with grease from the grill. The one thing that I have to say I was impressed by was the mustard sauce, it's one of the best I've ever had but didn't make up for the rest of the meal. To top it off the cost of a meal is very expensive and I would expect a much better meal for the over $30 a person we paid. more

REVOLTING! 12/27/2011

My husband and I went to Oki because I bought a Groupon? The first impression was ? shabby d?cor, plastic dishes on the tables, very dark ? later I found out that there was a reason ? they do not want us to see the dirt or poor quality of food. I It looks like they do not like Groupon users very much ? starting with the host (or the owner?) who met us at the door and kind of pointed to the group of tables ? ?pick any table?, to the not very friendly waitress who, I felt was irritated by our mere presence . When we ordered hot tea vs. alcoholic beverage she was practically pissed, my miso soup was inedible - extremely salty ? I finished mine and my husband?s tea in one gulp, could not get a refill and there was no water on the table. The futomaki did not taste or look like any futomaki I?ve ever tasted ?disgusting and was missing some key ingredients of futomaki, the rest of my sushi ( and I use this term loosely) needed a close inspection from the Department of Health, I brought it home to my cats ? they were not interested . My husband?s $26 steak was good, but small ? we had to stop at TacoBell on the way home ? we were hungry and thirsty after spending $72. It?s been 2 month since out visit and I?m still fuming?I will never go there again! more

Review 10/21/2010

I have to say it could use a facelift but the food was excellent. I would go back more often but a little pricey for an every weekend kind of place to eat out at more

Oki has gone downhill and very dirty 10/15/2010

I have been going to Oki for over 30 years. I went last week and was disappointed. It is very difficult to get past how dirty it is. As your walking on the tile floor or standing there waiting, the dirt is just caked on and is disgusting. The hibachi area is the same. The keep it very dark for a reason. Our other disappointment is that the prices have gone up and the portions have gone down. For instance they cut way down on the vegatables. How much can zuchini be. more

Good food but going downhill 9/7/2010

I have been going to Oki's for many years (20+) and I have to say that in that time things have changed that shouldn't have. The portions are a lot smaller than they used to be.. the salad is lame but the dressing is excellent. The decor in the bar is very techno and modern but the hibachi part of the restaurant is dingy and old looking, I think they still have the original carpeting! The chefs are excellent but I can't understand them when they speak. The sushi is ok but, I have had better. They are quite pricey so if I don't have a coupon, I don't go. Good hibachi food, the tuna is excellent as is the salmon and beef. I was not impressed with the swordfish, it tasted like cardboard and I was not impressed with the lobster tail as it was just ok yet very expensive. Best bang for your buck.. filet and shrimp or scallops. The waitress Linda is excellent!! Always remembers me and what I like, she is super nice and accommodating! more

Terrible 8/10/2010

I have been going to Oki Steakhouse for at least 10 years now. The staff is ok, the food is good but a day later you are felling sick from it, and to top it off the place is dirty and dingy...there are a few other Habachi places in RI and are much nicer, better food, and cleaner more

there are other places to go first... 3/12/2010

Coupon Scam 1/24/2010

I used to like the restaurant, but their 2-for-1 dinner special is a scam. My wife and I went with our daughter and when we got the bill, we found they had taken the kid's meal off (rather than the lesser of the adult meals). I complained and was told that was the owner's policy - even though it isn't mentioned on the coupon card. Pros: Food is OK Cons: 2-for-1 Deal more

Great Food every time 12/8/2009

This is by far the best Japanese restaurant anywhere around the Providence area. However, I don't eat Sushi so I can not judge this particular aspect. But EVERYTHING from soup, salad, main dish is WONDERFUL Pros: Best Salad dressing ever Cons: That it is on Mineral Spring ? more

One of my favorite 11/5/2009

Love Oki's Steakhouse, we always have a fun time when we go there. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Even my picky 6 year old will eat the veggies here. Pros: Entertainment, great food Cons: Dimly lit more

Will never go back 9/20/2009

We had reservations at 7:30 for a birthday dinner. We were not seated until 9. The prices were pretty high. After we received the bill of $300 they brought out a tiny piece of cake with a candle on it. The waitress then took our bill and added an extra 9.50 for that cake. I spoke with a manager because we were not told they would charge for this, we didnt ask for it. The manager would not remove that from the bill. Cons: waited too long/overpriced food more

Good Sushi 6/5/2009

The new $5 appetizer menu is fantastic, it has a wide variety of foods to choose from and the sushi is fantastic. Pros: good sushi Cons: restaurant needs a good cleaning, dirty looking more

Absolutley amazing 3/10/2009

I go to okis on mondays an tuesdays for the 5dollar menu. The eel and avacado tempura roll for five dolars is awesome. Sit at sushi and you can be full for 15 dollars. more

Go to SHOGUN... 2/16/2009

My boyfriend and I decided we would try OKI's for the first time on valentines day. Yes the building was a little wierd but that was ok. It was when we waited forever our sushi that we started getting restless.. then we had to ask 3x for glasses to go with our saki.... then when our chef arrived to cook our food and our sushi still hadn't come the waitress arrived to tell us it would be coming soon. We told her to keep it was to late our food had arrived. Both her and the waiter both made a point to tell us the manager didnt have enough staff on and things were crazy. I will give credit where due the food was fantastic to bad we couldn't get our sushi served at the sushi restaurant! But things went down hill again when the bill came and they had charged us for the two sushi's we declined due to their tardiness. We were also charged us for an entire meal. I had to go find the manager and have him fix the bill. All in all they were over charging us $65. We will DEFFINATELY NOT be returning to OKI's nor will I ever recommend it to anyone. GO TO SHOGUN! SHOGUN HAS EXCELLENT FOOD SHOGUN HAS EXCELLENT WAIT STAFF AND SHOGUN IS CLEAN!!!!!!!! Pros: good food Cons: poor mgt, sushi order never came, wait staff over loaded need more help!! more

DIRTY, scuzzy 12/29/2008

Went there for a dinner with an out of town client becasue I heard it was good and while the food was good enough the place is DIRTY! The carpets are gross and the place needs a hose-down or something! It looks like it hasn't been renovated (ore really cleaned) since the 80's. It is wierd that it is in a strip mall... go someplace else for hibachi! Pros: Entertaining Cons: Dirty more

GOOD FOOD FOR RI 4/3/2008

I have to disagreed with comment people on last post. I had dinner last sat. the food is really good i have to say....and they didnt trick you with fried rice. white rice come with it and if you want fried rice you could order if u like...such a good exsperience to me and family...defenitely come again.... Pros: big parking space Cons: good food always more

Oki's not as good as it once was 1/10/2008

The one good thing to say about Oki's is the food is good, still. But, for the money you pay, which is what you pay in 5 star restaurants ($25 a plate, come on) you should get a clean atmosphere and clean bathroom. When I first dined at Oki's 15 years ago, it was impressive. Now, the cooks cannot perfom the food tossing tricks well anymore, and the bathroom is dirty with overflowing wastebaskets and water all over the sink. It even smells. If they cannot keep their bathrooms clean, I wonder how clean the kitchen is? Oki's time has ended. About service: The last time I dined there, I made an 8pm reservation and waited until 8:45 to be seated. They also try to trick you into buying their fried rice when placing your order. (white rice is included in your meal) I cannot say I went on a bad night as the last 5 times I dined there I have been disappointed. There are a bunch of new Habachi restaurants cropping up in RI, check them out. Pros: Good Food Cons: Dirty, expensive, bad service more

I LOVE OKIS 12/27/2007

I want to first off say that for those of you on here that have written bad reviews for Okis have either been there on a bad night (which I have yet to experience), or are just nit picking for no apparent reason, either way I couldn't disagree more with your opinions. Pros: Outstanding Food, Couteous Staff, Clean, FUN!! Cons: Long wait to eat on occasion, Cramped Seating more

Don't come here for habachi 5/27/2007

We just went there for habachi yesterday! more
