They need to get their act together 12/16/2007

I was driving by so I thought I'd give the place a try. I had no idea what they served but living in the area, thought I'd check them out. I was going in for just a cup of coffee but decided to get some food to go. I ordered Mac & Cheese and Red Beans and Rice to go. when I got a few blocks away, I opened my food only to find they had given me Candied Yams rather than the Red Beans and Rice. The Mac & Cheese was cold in places and nothing special. The Yams were good but smothered in the candied sauce which I'm sure isn't very good for you. The coffee tasted like Folgers. The portions were not very big and that cost me $8.50 before the tip. Not what I'd call a very good value. The staff was nice and the order was served promptly. I doubt I'll be back however. Pros: Friendly Staff Cons: Ambience more

Not so Hot 10/14/2007

We tried to eat at Odessa's Cafe recently. We had a very unpleasant experience...First... The people sitting next to us got up to leave after the waiter told them no checks, he looked at them like they were morons and practically ordered them to sit back down and finish their free soup only to later tell them a checks ok. The waiter gave us a bad time for asking if they served beef ribs ""beef is nasty"" ?filled with all that poyzen? and he said they had pork ribs. M friend ordered the ?sweet tea? and I asked for club soda, he gave me a sour look told me the sweet tea was a 100 year old southern recipe and I should try some. They didn?t have any ribs because they needed them all for a wedding they were catering, he then told me I should have the BEEF brisket. At this point I?ll admit, I was a little annoyed and it probably showed when I asked if we could please have our drinks and said I?d have the Mac N cheese with coleslaw and try my friend?s brisket. After another half hour the waiter brought out the brisket, set it down with some attitude and glared at me (the brisket was basically processed lunch meat smothered in BBQ sauce). My friend politely ate it and had left the restaurant before my Mac n cheese ever came out. (I saw someone going out to the catering van with a tub huge tub of it) and when it did finally come it was about a half cup of dry, nasty scrambled macaroni with oil all over it, it was obvious he had scraped what was left from the bottom of the pan and nuked it. I then asked for the third time, if I could please have something to drink and got water. I cannot tell you about the sweet tea he made such a big deal about because he never brought it. We decided to let the manager know that we had a pretty bad experience at lunch but the guy who waited on us asked us to leave and not come back. I will admit I should have left after the second red flag, but these people really need go into another line of work. Pros: good ribs if they have them Cons: BAD service, unprofessional attitude and atmosphere more

Nice friendly people, but really bad experience with the food 6/14/2007

I stopped on my way home from work, my drive home is an hour away so I thought I'd stop to get dinner... I was greeted by a really nice man (maybe an owner). I ordered two $18.95 combo plates with ribs & brisket including 2 sides each & cornbread. I waited a 1/2 hour for my ""to go"" dinners, paid nearly $40 bucks and was on my way. When I got home I found there was no corn bread.. The big disappointment was the ribs and brisket being tough, the ribs had a good flavor but the brisket tasted really bad, all with little to no sauce. The side of dry Mac & cheese lacked cheese or creamy consistency I think should be in Mac & cheese, I would have loved frozen Stouffers in comparison. Red beans & rice ok but dry, fair potato salad & good baked beans. They did however give everyone a sample of their brisket soup that was very good, the rest I don't know about. Maybe I caught them on a really off night, unfortunately I have a bad after taste and won't go back for a second chance. I've had good BBQ, but sorry folks but this wasn?t it today! Pros: Nice people, clean Cons: overall bad bbq more
