i wasn't as impressed 8/5/2006

i live down the street from o'sullivan's and was just not as impressed as i'd thought i'd be. they were good but not out-of-this-world as i was told over and over, and my friend agreed. the service was ok - had to wait a bit for a burger but there was a red sox game on so we forgave them for being so busy. all in all, if you're in the neighborhood already, they are good burgers - but not good enough to travel for. more

Gigantic, Awesome Burgers 5/14/2006

I say "awesome" in the sense of "awe-inspiring" because the burgers at O'Sullivans are pretty intense. You come here for a two-inch-thick ball of cooked beef (they're not afraid to do it rare, either, if that's your taste) on a bun. The list of options is dizzying and the burger really lives up to the hype, like the best thing you've gotten off someone's grill. Be aware it takes them 20 minutes to cook, so if you're gnawing your leg off in hunger already maybe you want to eat somewhere else. Lettuce and tomato cost extra, no free refills on soda, and while the "half and half" option (half fries, half onion rings) also costs extra, I say it's worth it. Beers on tap and in bottles. more

best burgers in town 4/13/2006

O'Sullivan's is known around Boston for the best burgers. They are hand-made HUGE thick patties - not those frozen hockey pucks you get at most places. They are so thick that they'll tell you upfront that it takes 20 minutes to cook them! And, it is definitely worth the wait. Paired with their french fries - YUM! I've never actually been able to finish a whole burger - but it's not for lack of trying! more

Amazing "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant! 3/17/2006

For some reason, it was just this past month that I made my way into O'Sullivan's for the first time. I lived across the street from the place for a year and then only about a mile away for the past three years. I think it was because I always thought it looks like a seedy bar from the outside, so I never ventured in. It wasn't until I was watching the Phantom Gourmet (my weekend morning guilty pleasure!) and saw O'Sullivan's recognized as one of the best burgers in New England when I realized it must be some sort of crime that I had not yet been. The Phantom was right - the burgers are really good! The one thing that I didn't like about them (and this is just being nit-picky of course!) is that they look like hamburger baseballs on buns (they don't squish them down at all, they just roll them into a ball, cook them, and put them on the bun). For this reason, I found them kind of difficult to eat. But they do have a WIDE variety of burger choices, and you won't be disappointed. The place is VERY crowded and they really cram the tables in there, so get ready to get cozy with your neighbors! The bar is large and there does seem to be a bar crowd that comes to O'Sullivan's during the evening. Enjoy! more

Mmmm 2/12/2006

O'Sullivan's has made a name for itself as the bar to go to for a drink but it is also known to others for its thick, juicy burgers. A variety of toppings makes a burger here an exquisite experience, from teriyaki to avocado to the one drizzled with barbecue sauce. You almost need to take lessons from an anaconda to eat them, since the beef patties are nearly two inches(without the bun and toppings). They're more than worth the lockjaw, though. O'Sullivan's food attracts a crowd, and although it can get loud for dinner, it's a relaxed place to go, with a laid-back, local feel. In addition to burgers there are good grilled chicken and sandwiches. The pub stands out in a town with a lot of hamburger competition by serving fresh and filling patties, all of them worth a visit. more
