Hair in food, Inattentive Slooooow Service, Unprofessional 3/25/2007

Arrived for a birthday dinner of twelve guests. I understand a bit of a wait for large parties, but the waitress was MIA for additional bread, water and drink orders while we waited over an hour for our food to arrive. When the food finally arrived my dish was incorrect-the server insisted I ordered that, asking if I moved places, etc. It was rude for him to keep insisting I didn't know what I was talking about. When the waitress admitted she thought I said snapper, not salmon, I told them I'd take the snapper because I don't want to wait any longer. All of the snapper dishes were not accompanied by the specified coconut rice and steamed vegetables that were listed on the menu... The waitress said the server was supposed to tell us. Although she took our order... While eating the mashed potatoes (that were not supposed to be part of the snapper dish) I felt a HAIR in the potatoes. I tried to pull it out, but it was twisted around the potatoes! So gross! Believe me, it wasn't mine! I called the owner over and explained the sequence of events. He offered a 20% discount on our meals, but I needed to add, we're also not paying for that dish. On a positive note, I will say the few appetizers we had were good, but I lost my appetite and couldn't eat anything else and left disgusted and hungry! more

Yummy Sangria 3/12/2007

We went to novo last weekend and i have to say that this is a very good, inexpensive restaurant. The appetizers were great, main course was delish and strawberry sangria was yummy. We were seated right away, the food came out pretty quicky. It was not loud, the service was great. more

Must Ease in... 10/14/2006

So my friends and I went to this place for dinner this weekend. The ad online said it was BYOB, but it turns out that its not. They did let us use our wine that we brought for a small cork fee (5 bux isnt bad). The menu was a little confusing at first, but the waitress explained it. So we took her recommendation and tried a little bit of everything. The food was pretty good. The only thing we really didnt like was the ceviche. I have had ceviche in the past, and this was not what I thought it would be. Other than that the pasta was really good (it was a seafood one with a name I cant pronounce). It was my friends birthday, and I was hoping I could get something from the dessert menu. I was a little upset when the waitress said they didnt have one just complimentary ones, but she was really sweet and made it with a candle....the bartender even gave us complimentary bday shots! so all in all, I guess I can say that at first I was a little skeptical, but in the end the night was pretty good. I'd go again. Pros: bday shots, the pasta, service Cons: ceviche and no dessert menu more

Novolicous!! 10/11/2006

My good friend told me about this hidden Gem in Soho.Like always I check citysearch for a little feedback and found mixed reviews.Still there where more good than bad so I decided to check it out for myself.Let me tell you THIS PLACE IS DELICOUS!!Me and my date had a little bit of everything, but the one thing that I had that was totally Heavenly was the Spanish tallarines basically pastas from Spain Incredible! the one I had,had Braised Oxtail in it I forgot what else it had but it was great Yummy Food, lovely crowd,Beutiful decor and a cute staff (pretty friendly to) a total little secret for the native New Yorker.Oh before I go ask the bartender about their Nicaraugan Drink. Pros: Just about everything Cons: bathrooms are downstairs more

Great crowd and vibe 10/3/2006

Reading the other reviews I was reluctant on going to novo but some very trustworthy friends said dont believe the hype. The crowd is beautiful the music even better as for the food it was a nice touch to a very nice spot. A must visit for the younger hipper crowd. The spanish pastas where great. Pros: Dope vibe Cons: very busy more

Serious About Ceviches 10/2/2006

If you your a ceviche lover I highly recommened this Place!! Even with six different choices Its hard to choose a favorite (I had them all the same night).A freind of mine who works at Calle Ocho told me about the place and I got to tell you it is definitely one of N.Y. best kept secrets Pros: Great food Fun staff Romantic Cons: Not a Big wine list more

Avoid 10/2/2006

Now I see why this restaurant was empty on a Friday night at 9pm. I made last minute reservations here for a party of 6. They took us right away, which I was happy about, but once I took a bite of the food, I understood why they were empty. All the red meat we ordered was overdone. The lambchops-like sawdust, skirt steak-rubber, duck- barely touched. None of us enjoyed any of the seafood dishes either. I was so disappointed especially since I am a foodie and had brought good friends from out of town all looking forward to enjoy a great meal. Even the service was dissapointing. We even had to get up to get our own plates since she did not give us any....many other tapas places in Manhattan to try. Pros: Seated promtly Cons: Lousy food, unprofessional service more

New twist on a latin favorite 9/15/2006

Me and my wife recently spend a week in New York city, got lost trying to find another restuarant and kinda stumbled on to Novo restuarant.I first came across a familiar name Pros: everything Cons: nothing period more

Best drinks, average food, poor service 8/18/2006

From the moment my group of 4 walked in, the waitress couldn't wait for us to order and leave. We wanted a nice place for tapas and drinks, but only the drinks delivered. The tapas, which are by definition ""small plates"" were too small to call a plate, more like 3 tablespoons. My friends said the yellowtail tasted like tunafish, but at $8 a ""plate."" I can say the atmosphere was nice, even though it was a Thursday night and we were the only table in th whole place. The music was good, but I can't say enough about the drinks. We tried several varieties of the infusions and loved every one, so much so that we doubted any alcohol content. Pros: Drinks, music, atmosphere Cons: Service, super small portions, average food quality more

no longer b.y.o.b. 7/4/2006

GOOD NEWS!!Last friday me and 4 of my vodka guzzling foodie buddies decided to go to our new favorite latino/tapas Lounge NOVO and I realized we bought cake to the bakery!!!We had just purchased a bottle of the ol"" goose and found that we did not need bother.THEY NOW HAVE A FULL LIQUOR BAR with a array of specialties drinks. To make a long story short.WE ROCKED THE PLACE!! the stuff movies are made of great food great place good fun and oh yeah MELON SANGRIAS!!! Pros: FULL BAR GOOD FOOD LOTS OF FUN Cons: NO VALET, NO MINT. more

Oh Sweet Heavenly Ceviches!! 7/2/2006

I recently visted this slice of paradise on Hudson and found the ceviches to be nothing but blissfull!!I highly recommened their Hamachi Novo ceviche and also their camaron dulce en fuego.Honestly,If you close your eyes while you taste this you can imagine yourself in some remote ceviche bar in a japanese fishing port on the coast of Peru!!Another thing that swept me off my feet was the beutiful layout of the place Like a little Island getaway but not in the vain of some uptown tiki bar,but more like a hidden resort.Definitely a must go if you dig latino cusine and loungy vibe.Gets a little too party for my taste after midnight, but a very cool chic crowd. Pros: Food, Music, Layout Cons: portions(just a little bit more pleeeasse!!) more

Can you survive on 1/2 cup of food? 6/4/2006

My girlfriends and I spent an evening at this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. We all had a great time, and spent much of the evening laughing...laughing at the ridiculously small portions! None of us appreciate huge volumes of food, but we do expect to feel somewhat satisfied after a meal. Each tapas is about a 1/2 cup of food. The entrees are not much better. The frustrating thing is that all of the food was delicious, and the service was excellent, but the portions are more appropriate for a 5-year old with a sophisticated palate. Pros: Service, Ambiance, Tasty Food Cons: Portions, Portions, Portions more

hidden treasure 4/18/2006

Recently I was on Hudson St and I found NOVO which I would have walked by if it was not for the lighted NOVO sighn I was standing on. In talking with the very attractive manager they are byob so I booked my bday party for the following weekend. Me and 10 of my friends came prepared and they made us some of there NOVO sangria and pitcher of liomonadas which made us all very happy(if you know what I mean) and then the feast began we started out with some greta platos clientes which included calmari and chorizo withj fabba beans and then some of the best ceviches I ever had and finished up with latin american pastas and plancha dishes. All and all a great night with supeb service and good music and ambiance not to mention at there prices it felt like we ate for free. Pros: manager, staff, ambiance more

Look onto the sidewalk... 4/12/2006

This is where you'll find the name of the restaurant. It is stylish, you eat by candlelight, there's wonderful service and delicious food. One important thing to point out is this: Don't come here if you have a monster of an appetite. Unless of course you don't mind ordering quite a few appetizers and entrees to fill you up. The portions seem small compared to the big portions we get elsewhere. They are healthy portions. The restaurant still does not have a liquor license, but it's all good - BYOB. Another thing to point out is the unisex bathroom that can be shared by men and women at one given time. I loved the common room, felt like I was in a western for a second - tasteful, not tacky. more
