THE BEST NEW FOOD IN TOWN!! 5/27/2009

UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP! NEW MENU! NO ANIMALS ROAMING AROUND! GRADE A BEST FOOD AROUND! WOW!!!! you guys are missing out!!!! I was walking to Starbucks when I came across this make belief playground on Magnolia Blvd!!!! I loved everything about the restaurant the waterfalls, the FOOD (more to come) the music the workers the smells the sounds, it was truly a experience to enjoy!!!! It was a candle light dinner and although I was by myself the constant joyous conversations with the people around and my waiter were great! I was actually lucky enough to have the owners son serve me, a real family restaurant. I asked him what to eat and he suggested a appetizer called ""Hoomus"" it was great w plenty of bread and a bowl of soup which were all in the perfect amount to keep me busy but not fill me up till my entree. I got a Kings Special, which he said ""were only for Kings"" because it was truly a meal for royalty I got a plate full of fresh crispy salad, bastami rice a skewer of lamb, chicken breast, and beef luleh! After the food I had to try the thing that is sweeping the nation HOOKAH!! I got white grape as the flavor, it wasn't what i was expecting, it was great!!! It was quite the experience but hey i did something for the first time!!!! All in all It was all great!!! I'm taking my family there on the weekend! Give it a try the new owners need a fair chance for they really do deserve it!!!! Pros: FOOD HOOKAH MUSIC PEOPLE! Cons: THE FACT THAT NO ONE KNOWS more

unique setting and authentic exotic food in a modest garden filled with bunnies and birds! 9/26/2006

Our off-to-college daughter named this restarant her absolute favorite for her going away party and has been there many times with her friends in the past. Our first visit was on a Friday night with the family and the kids adored the bunnies and birds roaming free in this modest garden setting in a modest neighborhood. The chicken kebobs and mashed potatoes were perfect for the kids and the food gyros were great for the adults at reasonable prices. Plastic chairs in modest garden. One of the most unique settings for kids I've seen in this area. Reminded me of Europe. We even had Armenian/Turkish coffee, no liquor served and the kids had vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Beware of bunnies munching on purses under the table because that's what happened to my sister's elegant Coach purse (and she's still grumbling). We're not, though, we thought it was unique, fun and real! Pros: bunnies and birds roaming freely in the garden with delicious food at reasonable prices Cons: quite modest with plastic chairs in a modest neighborhood more

Garden Setting: Like having lunch in Eden. 6/10/2006

After reading the negative reviews on this site, my husband and I tried the Royal Garden with low expectations. We came for lunch on a Sunday, and there was not one patron in the restaurant. The one employee on duty literally jumped when we approached her because she seemed not to expect any customers to come in at all. We were allowed to sit at whatever table we wished. We chose a table located between a well with a bucket and a cage housing some monstrous decorative white doves. We ordered the gyro plate and the falafel plate, our standard faves. While we waited for our food, we marvelled at all the awesome birds that were hanging out: a cute tiny bird with a beautiful whistle, some cockatiels, and a couple others. We received our food, and it was much better than we expected. Not exquisite, but fine enough for the price. The salad that comes with the meal is large and fresh and the tatziki was a nice complement. While we were eating, a large white rabbit bounded up to our feet to say hi, and a rainbow colored pheasant walked up and did the same. I felt like I was in an old Disney movie. Should I sing them a song? Pros: Garden Setting, Enchanting Atmosphere Cons: Plastic tables and chairs, not good for those who hate sitting outdoors more

Avoid like the plague! 8/12/2005

We were seated promptly on a Friday night; however, no one was there. We ordered the tabouli, Greek salad, hummus, gyros, and falafel--as vanilla as Greek gets. The tabouli was entirely made of parsley! The hummus tasted canned and the Greek salad was all iceberg lettuce, except for the cubes of ""feta"" cheese that were actually mozzerella. The gyros plate had 4 pieces of pita bread, a cd-sized pita cut into quarters and the cucumber dressing was ranch. To top it off, it took us 2 hours to get our food. Athen's was a true disappointment! When we got there, the atmosphere took us by surprise because it was really a nice garden setting with fountains, an airy canopy of banana leaves, and sweet sounds of chirping from the birds the owner keeps throughout the restaurant. Halfway through our meal we couldn't wait to leave. Pass on Athen's. Pros: Garden Setting Cons: Food, Service, Parking more

I love this place! Great Soups! 2/5/2004

I love this place! I have lived and worked in Russia, and this is like a trip back to the old country. The outdoor, garden ambiance is peaceful and fun-- a bit like the Russian countryside with exotic chickens pecking here and there. The beauty in this place is the authenticity. Russian food can be kind of oily and a little bland, but this is the real stuff. The GEM of Russian cuisine is, however, SOUP, and they have a phenominal borscht. For Russians, this is can be a home away from home, and for Americans, a great introduction to the simple pleasures of Russian cooking, and their outstanding soups. This is also a great place to bring your out of town guests because it is just so darn unique. Your midwestern friends have never seen anything like it! Pros: atmosphere!, authentic, SOUPS more

Don't bother 2/8/2003
