Best

After all this time, No Idea is still the place I go to when I want a drink before heading home. Good crowd, good staff Pros: Staff, crowd

Worst

Surely the bar is posting their own ratings, as No Idea has the rudest staff I've ever encountered. I don't need to get glared at for ordering a drink, or have the bartender look ...

No matter how many times I see it, I still don't get it. Is it New York bars or is it everywhere? more

Still waiting for my name night... 7/23/2008

Best Pick-up line used at this bar. ""I'll take another Brooklyn... On her tab"" Looked like it worked too. Not saying the girls that go here are easy... just that this bar has an amazing atmosphere and we have great laughs every time we go. Many times our nights have started here as an after work meeting point, gone elsewhere only to be disappointed and ended up back here to recover the night. still waiting for my name though... Pros: Location, not to pricey, great setting Cons: Everyone sardines near bar. more

Love at First Glug 7/7/2008

I met my girlfriend here one year ago today. Luckiest day of my life. I was glugging down those pint-glass mixed drinks (how'd they know that's how I make them at home?) with two buddies. Well, for $20 I was nice and toasty and filled with courage. So I went up to her and said ""I don't have a line."" I know that was a line, but it worked. Bartender heard it and made fun of me. And by the end the three of us were yukking and exchanging cell numbers. more

No Idea!!! 4/4/2008

No Idea is a GREAT neighborhood bar. I've been going there for years. Great location, great people, great bartenders and a great spot to meet people after work. The only problem is that I don't live closer and am only able to go during the weekdays. Highly recommended! Pros: Beer, drinks, service, location more

Where everyone knows you're lame 6/7/2007

This is my favorite bar in NYC hands down. First came here a few years ago for a friend's name night, I've had several parties here since. The staff are friendly and really funny and pretty hot too. Not only are the mixed drinks huge, the place is surprising big too. Other than the bar room (which gets pretty crowded) there's the pool room and another large TV room in the back with benches and what not. I've met a lot of strange characters at this bar, and the crowd itself is a mix of after work folks in suits, young partiers and people looking to get drunk. No more juke box is sad, but such is life I guess. This is not date place or a place to take your folks visiting from out of town, but it is a great place to get drunk and have a loud good time. Pros: Great Drink Value, Party Atmosphere Cons: Crowded Bar, Its Never Mike Night more

A step above the typical bar experience 10/31/2006

Cheap drinks, enough seats, great midweek spot to hang out with friends after work. It's not super special, but it's just right for a no-muss, no-fuss evening chatting with friends. Plus, if your name matches the name of the day, you drink for free! Pros: Cheap drinks, chill Cons: Nothing special besides the above more

Went here for the first time on Saturday 10/29/2006

I dont work here or know anyone who does but I had a fantastic time. Somehow we ended up here after a halloween party. Our bar tender was laura-ann or something like that (dont remember because I was a mess at this point), but she was fantastic. We were talking to her and we were buying drinks and she took great care of us. I was buying 4 beers and 6 shots Jager (one for Laura-Ann and the other bartender) and it was costing me $20!! I had a blast and am definitely going to go back. Its definitely worth checking out. Pros: Great Bartender, Amazing Value Cons: None that I could remember more

Best Drinks 8/9/2006

I love this bar, its the best place to pre-game before a night at the club. The drinks are cheap and givin in big glasses. The bartenders are always nice, and this has to be the first bar ive ever gotten buy-backs from. Me and my friends started to get free shots after buying a couple. Pros: Drinks, Bartenders more

Regular Bar 5/23/2004

No Idea is a regular bar. Nothing special, but not bad either. You can play pool or Golden Tee pretty easily and there's usually an average crowd. Nonetheless, if it's your name night, you should go for that reason alone - it's worth it (free!!). I agree that the other comments are by employees or someone else associated with the place. more

I have No Idea why people like this bar 2/18/2003

Surely the bar is posting their own ratings, as No Idea has the rudest staff I've ever encountered. I don't need to get glared at for ordering a drink, or have the bartender look down to see if I've tipped her when she puts my drink down. Did I mention the beer was flat? Do yourself a favor and put a bottle of beer in a brown paper bag then go lie in a snow pile near the gutter--you'll have a better time than you would at this establishment. more

this place rocks 1/31/2003

one of the best bars in the area. great pool room, cheap drinks, great specials - i sound like i work there but i dont - i just love thsi place. theres usually some hot chicks but not always more

Great booze! 10/2/2002

I had my birthday party here, 30-40 people who had no problems getting to the bar, the bartenders were great, drinks are cheap and NOT watered down! It seemed popular but NOT uber-trendy. The only thing that could make this place better is a free shuttle to and from MY PLACE! Pros: cheap, close to the PATH more

a 'remedy' for fun! 8/5/2002

after waiting in line at lame Remedy next door, we had a great time at No Idea. It was nice to hang out with good looking/friendly people. Luckly we were able to hog the jutebox and play hiphop all night. Fun place, cheap drinks. more

really great bartenders, very prompt. they allow you to bring in your own food so i brought in a pizza which they happily let me lay on top of the bar and share with my friendly friends. check it out. Pros: service more

So Cool I Can't Think of a Catchy Title 7/24/2002

Nice barternders, great juke box, huge dance space, a pool table, and enough room for everyone make this bar hospitable and never uncomfortably crowded, which is nice, because having strangers sweat on you sort of puts a damper on your evening (pun intended). Even the big, bald bouncer is nice if you get him on a good day. more

Owner Message
  • No Idea is the answer to many of life's questions. It's also a damn good drinking bar with dozens of personalities. From pint-size mixed drinks to parties in our back room to Puddles the one-legged bartender, No Idea is the place. And you never know ... you just might be drinking for free tonight.

As for the tunes, No Idea is now an iPod bar. Benevolent dictators that we are, we have seized your power to create atmosphere. Plus we didn't like buying hundreds of discs for a few great songs. Now you'll hear a great mix of alternative, rap and classic rock. And late night always includes some good drunken dancing stuff.
