Don't know what all the drama is about down below, but to risk the unhinged wrath of briboyus I'll give Nimbus 4 1/2 stars. As a visitor to Tucson, I was as happy to finally locate this place as finding an oasis in the desert. Very cool industrial conversion, great beers, and the burger was quite good and reasonably priced. No problems with service. In all, I'd say Tucson is lucky to have this unique and tasty place. Check it out. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. It's that simple people. Relax; have an ale. (I'd recommend the oatmeal stout, but Old Monkeyshine is a good session beer). more

I have to say I kind of agree with the ""fake reviewer"". I lived in Casa Grande but worked in Tucson, every day, for almost 3 years. Visited Nimbus several times and always enjoyed it. Old Monkeyshine is a fantastic beer in this drinker's opinion. Kegs of Monkeyshine and the red ale have been hits at my parties. \r \r Funny though, that it's more expensive by the six pack @ Nimbus than it is in the grocery store. \r \r Anyway, I've had the food there a few times and it was always OK, not amazing, but not bad. Why would you go to a working brewery and expect the food to be 5 star quality, anyway? You go to a brewery to drink the beer when it's very fresh and tasty, and the beer at Nimbus is pretty darn tasty. \r \r It is in an industrial area, but just around the corner from TEP, so Nimbus is a great place to stop before or after a baseball game or some other event (like the Centurion's annual theme party). \r \r Naturally, since it's in an industrial area, there are aspects that you might not appreciate - the train tracks, the commercial buildings etc. Regardless, the view of the Catalinas is pretty sweet, and it's fun to have to raise your voice occassionally when a train rolls by. \r \r I say it all adds up to create a unique atmosphere that you're really not going to find anywhere else. \r \r Summary: If you're interested in quality beer in a setting unlike anything else you've experienced, go to Nimbus and have a good time. If you're interested in taking the family out for a more restaurant like experience, go to the Nimbus Bistro on Tanque Verde. The food is better, plus they have wine and a full bar for your wife and you won't look like the alkie wierdo who took his underage kids to a brewery. This page is riddled with FAKE REVIEWS for this restaurant. Strange how many professional restaurant critics/professional brewers/beer meisters (and countless other fake people that were created to deceive you into eating here) come to tucson, register for citysearch, and only write ONE review talking about how great nimbus is. Or, if they do write other reviews, they are bad mouthing the competition (Gentle Bens) All that touring around the country eating and the only place in the country they have decided to write a citysearch review for is Nimbus??? This owner (or whoever writes the fake reviews) must think the customers are brainless idiots to write things like that. Not to mention in one of his fake posts he mocks a customer for being ""mistreated"" by a customer. To QUOTE ""wahhhh!"". Some of the REAL REVIEWS talk about things like service being ""HORRIBLE and RUDE"". Dont believe the false advertising! I lived in Tucson for 5 years, and never made it over to Nimbus, which I regretted. I now have lived in Portland for 4 years in the land of microbrews and brewpubs, so while on vacation in Tucson I decided to finally give Nimbus a shot. I went with 3 of my friends (who live in Tucson) and we were all disappointed with our food. All dishes were very bland. I ordered a Boca burger (which I eat weekly) and when it arrived it looked pretty unappealing, so I asked the server if it was a real Boca burger and he said it was. I didn't believe him, and after a bite I really didn't. I don't know how the previous reviewer could claim it was ""the best bar food"" he's had. As far as the beer, the bartender's description didn't match the taste at all. I tried my friends' beer, and it was very good. The bartender was very flighty while taking our order. Overall, not the best experience. I'm glad I have much better breweries to visit here in Portland. Been here on several occasions. The most recent will be our last. 2 confimed cases of dysentery in our group was enough to insure that. Notified management...no response. No further visits from us. Choose another spot for a burger and beer unless you really are looking to call in sick on Monday more

I have no idea why some of these ""local critics"" have written reviews on this brewery that are so critical of this very special place. I travel the country professionally reviewing restaurants and breweries for a nationwide publication based in NYC. I can assure you, there is nothing like this place anywhere in the country. These people are not writing reviews, it's just complaining... likely as they do everywhere they go and as you often see on Citysearch. They don't understand that you can't compare a true brewery to a brewpub or restaurant. For instance, the most recent guy writes or complains about how the bartender ""mistreated him""... wahhhh! The next person writes ""it's in a warehouse and it's hard to find"". Well folks, IT IS A REAL LIVE WORKING BREWERY FOR GOD SAKES! One that is known from coast to coast for all the highly awarded beers they make. They've been written about in every single beer magazine and publication... all in praise of the products they produce. Personally, I was very pleased with the food and its presentation. While I visited, familys with children were all having a great time. In fact, I came into Tucson to write reviews of all the breweries in the City. I was scheduled to be there for only two days. I stayed five days... enjoying Tucson's attractions and in the end, at the top of my list was Nimbus Brewery. Each day I ended up visiting the place enjoying the wonderful beers available on tap. I can't say the same for any of the other breweries in town. Nimbus is a jewel that obviously some people don't understand and likely never will. First and foremost, Nimbus brews world class beers. Any city in the country would love to have such a unique and well known place available to its residents. Their ""no table service policy"" is offset by very fair prices on the wonderful food they serve. Those people writing critical reviews of this place should go elsewhere to eat and drink like Applebee's, Boston Market or the likes. The beer is above average and the food is decent but the service was horrible and RUDE. You have to ask the busy bartender for menus and I saw him roll his eyes at our group. I don't know why this pops up as being family friendly dining because it's certainly not, and had I not gone there thinking so I would've been pleased otherwise. The beer is good and very cheap, so I will go back for a drink. I won't go back to dine. more

Food was good, but the location is hard to get to, and in an industrial neighborhood. The service was not very good either, I didn't even get a refil on my drink. If you want the experience of eating INSIDE of a brewery this is a really fun place to try out. But they have a limited selection and you order at the bar, then they run over to a small kitchen and place the orders. Very cafeteria like, and even though there were not very many people there they were not on top of servicing customers. Hence the ok rating. This is a great place to check out. It's a local place with a grungy feel (in a good way!) and has great beer. Some of the reviews have gone a little overboard on the ratings (I didn't see pizza on the menu, but apparently it's rated as one of the best in Tucson?? and romantic?? Hardly.) The good news is- this is a really fun place to check out. It's nestled (that means it's very hard to find- especially in the dark!) among warehouses. If it's your first time at Nimbus, be prepared to order beers and food from a line at the bar. A server brings your food to your numbered table. (That was a bit confusing since no one told us that.) Just having moved here from New England where there are clusters of micro breweries, I was disappointed that were none in extreme SE AZ. But on a recent trip to Tuscon, I found my home away from home!\r At the end of a dead end street in an industrial area, nestled in the far end of a warehouse, is an open bay door with some of the BEST micro brews in the US, and the food ain't bad, either.\r It isn't a disco, it isn't a sport's bar, it's hardly romantic (unless you're in love with ales).\r It's rather a gathering place for that growing population of us that like to kick back and enjoy the crafty marriage of water, yeast, malt & hops.\r Sit on the dock & watch the planes land at D-M and wave at the engineers in the trains as they pass or sit at the giant wooden & mirrored bar & if you are lucky, your server will be the dry, but witty John or the beautiful & talented Cindy! Listen to bands that appear regularly, speak to your bar neighbor about ales, a ball game or current events.\r I've only been here 3 times (4th if you count the first time that I couldn't find it).\r HIGHLY recommend the IPA, very hoppy & smooth and a DunkelWeissen, semi sweet & not too heavy to finish! I have no idea who those people reviewing Nimbus get off rating the place as average. The brewery is what it is and there is nothing else like it anywhere in Arizona or in the west for that matter. Talk about clueless people running around in Southern Arizona. They must have been exposed to too much sun. The atmosphere is great. The food is great. And the beer is just about the best a beer lover could find anywhere in the country. Anyone that knows anything about beer knows what I am saying is true. Keep on Brewing Nimbus! Rated by a pro brewer in Seattle. Living the Meca of American brewpubs where it all started I can say with confidance that the products of this brewery are above the taste palet of the Sonoran Desert region. Its not that COLD here and you don't need a kick you in the ass, hopped out (+100 IBU) to all get out brew. Its all about the beer. Nimbus is grungy with a 40+ blue collar crowd. You must push your way through to get your own table, and then to the bar to order your own food and drinks. The food is greasy, but OK. While I am the first to give praise where it is due, and I'm the first to love a great brewery, I am NOT impressed by much of anything at Nimbus. Their selection of brews was acceptable, but by no means was it outstanding. Service was iffy, and I would not recommend Nimbus for anything other than a quick lunch, or a snack. I am from LA and I only wish this beer was available at home. Nimbus Brews some of the best beers I have ever had anywhere. Great job guys! PLEASE move into the LA or Southern California market. Your beer would out sell amost anything available here. By the way, the food I had at your place was terrific as well. I will tell all my friends about your place and get them to visit you when they go to Tucson. Hang in there guys, I know it is tough in the micro-brew world with all the big guys gunning for you, but you sell a product far superior and if the folks from Tucson and Arizona will see the light and get behind you, you'll be playing with the big boys someday and taking their marketshare. more
