I live right next to a NYC Sports Club, and right across from Coles, the NYU sports center. For the first few months of law school I thought -oh, well, the sports center at Coles is free, so I'll just work out there. After 2 months of sweating away in a grungy, hot (no air conditioning), & tiny room with other law students though, I decided to convince my parents to pay for (an unfortunately expensive) subscription to NYC Sports Club I love the fact that its right next door, and the best part of all is that it has a TV! I get to watch 24 on Monday nights (a huge incentive to hit the gym), Deal or No deal throughout the week, and Beauty and the Geek (while it was still running on Thursdays). I always seem to get hungry after a workout, which kind of defeats the purpose, but it's also a pretty good place to get some of my work done.
