The New York Historical Society just blends into the buildings of Central Park West - until you notice a large banner advertising their newest exhibit.
It is not even close to the largest museum we have here in the city, nor does it have the most exhibits. What the NYHS has to offer is a unique perspective on the way the city has been shaped and how the city has shaped our country, its citizens and the world.
Due to the admission price ($10 for adults), you might want to wait until there is an exhibit that particularly appeals to you before scheduling a visit. I found the Eleanor Roosevelt/Jackie Kennedy & Alexander Hamilton exhibits in the past year to both be excellent and suspect that the historical society sets a high standard for itself.
The gift shop is a great one for history buffs.
