I'm of two minds regarding the Earth Room. One part of me enjoyed the sight of knee-high dirt filling a couple of spotless white rooms; the other part of me wondered if a piece of conceptual art (that ultimately provides 90 seconds of bemusement) merits being sustained for 25 years. What dissuades me from thinking the former is the single vantage point through the doorway. It's a well-executed idea but that's it. Yet the latter idea (advocating as it does the tearing down of The Earth Room) fills me with gloom. If you're in the neighborhood, take a peek and judge for yourself. Maybe 90 seconds of pleasure shouldn't be underrated in the final analysis.
