It's all about the money... forget compassion 11/29/2011

I am extremely disappointed with this vet. I have brought my foster dog there before and the rescue never had a problem with paying them. I bring my dog in tonite to be put to sleep and they let a dying dog in pain wait for 45 minutes until they can verify the credit card from the rescue. Business first I guess. I will never take another animal there. This poor dog hadn't had a rough enough life and they made even her death worse. Thanks for nothing. more

A caring vet 3/27/2011

I have been going to Dr. Socia for 6 yrs, I have always had great service, my dog is not a fan of the vets, but Alison as a way of calming him and always makes his visit less of a stress for him. I know I have a lot of vets to choose from in the area and I choose Dr. Socia no matter where she would be. \r \r Dr. Socia as even called me personally to check in on my dog after surgery, now that service!!! She genuine cares about her patients and their owners. more

Love this place! 3/15/2011

My dog has been a patient at this facility for the past few years. He has seen both Dr. Soscia and Dr. Ursitti, and I have never had anything but wonderful things to say about both of them. The doctors and staff are compassionate, gentle, and educated. The hospital is clean and welcoming. They provide a number of services and treatment, and always offer a friendly smile when I walk through the doors. I have been to several other veterinarians in the area in the past, and none could compare to the doctors at New Paltz Animal Hospital. I'll never go elsewhere! I have read previous reviews and don't think they properly illustrate the experiences I've had at this hospital. more

Fantastic Vet! 3/15/2011

I have a medium mixed-breed dog and a couple of cats that are all rescues and have always been well taken care of by Dr. Soscia. She and her staff are always so friendly to me and Dr. Soscia always greets my pets with such enthusiasm. I swear she is blessed with some weird Dr. Dolittle-pet-gene that gives her the ability to calm the most nervous of animals. She is great at what she does and I would never consider anyone else to look after my pets! more

My dog loves going to this Vet! 3/14/2011

"Corporate-run, money-driven veterinary business"? \r {{{the rest of this personally motivated lame rant deleted for civility}}}\r \r My GSD get's great care at NPAH. He developed elbow dysplasia at 7 months and I got a great orthopedic referral from Dr. Socia that saved his Schutzhund competition career. She has never missed a diagnosis with him.\r \r I can't say enough about Dr. Socia and everyone on the staff at NPAH. more

My dog loves Dr. Socia 3/14/2011

I'm happy with NP animal hospital, Dr. Socia and the other vets there. Seems like some people have an axe to grind. Call me crazy but generally when you take a pet to the vet, you can expect to pay for the visit.\r \r When I've taken by GSD to NPAH, DR. Socia and the other vets at NPAH, They give him a lot of time, love and patience. My dog walks right into the office, he likes going. There's no fear and he goes right up to the vets and says hello. I've never had a bad diagnosis from this office and I like the consistence of care. I know that the vets are familiar with my dog and case history before I walk in the door. There's no mistaking that the vets in this office love animals and care deeply about their patients.\r \r more

Dr. Soscia & Staff are Awesome! 3/13/2011

Wow. It?s obvious that Kerry R. didn?t get the position she was interviewing for at NPAH, and thankfully so! I wouldn?t want such a toxic being anywhere near anyone or anything I cared about! Unlike her, I AM actually a NPAH customer (does a customer know what the hell an isolation room is??!) and I am a loyal customer of Dr. Soscia?s since I found her in 2005. Prior to finding her, I was using Newburgh Animal Hospital and their satellite offices in Gardiner and New Paltz and spending exorbitant sums of money on my pets, not to mention the fact that whenever they would have an overnight stay at one of their facilities, my strictly-indoor pets would inadvertently come home infested with fleas. Unsatisfied and frustrated one day with my outrageous bill and no diagnosis, I scooped up my then 6 week old kitten that I had found in the street clinging to life 3 weeks prior, and took her to Dr. Soscia. Dr. Soscia unfortunately had to repeat the same tests only to my surprise, at a FRACTION of the cost (which left my jaw hanging) and diagnosed the kitten with congestive heart failure. She prepared me for the fact that the kitten was not going to live for very much longer. The kitten died in my arms 2 weeks later before I had even gotten in the car. Dr. Soscia and her staff were so helpful, compassionate and supportive within that 2 weeks and made such a difference in that little kitty?s quality of life. more

A great place 3/11/2011

New Paltz Animal hospital happens to be a fantastic place with a great, friendly staff and knowledgeable doctors. The prices are one of the lowest in the area, and there are no surprises. It's discouraging to read the horrible reviews about a place that has an Animal Crisis Fund set up to help people and strays. Yes, the building is a simple log cabin, but the docs do great medicine. I would rather have a doctor do diagnostics and get my dog's diagnosis correct the first time then simply guess. This is one of the few animal hospitals that actually employs LICENSED VET TECHS who have been with the practice for a long time, and yes they do go over treatment plans with the clients. I was impressed that not only did I hear it the first time from the doctor what needed to be done, but it was further explained again by the vet tech. No surprises at this hospital. Dr. Soscia is fair, compassionate, and honest, and Dr. Suzanne is just as wonderful. Check them out. more

Everything a Pet Lover Should Avoid 3/2/2011

Corporate-run, money-driven veterinary business, heavy heavy heavy on diagnostics (easy $$$-maker), but oddly enough, lacking the treatment capabilities and continuous care of a serious hospital (as a rule they never keep patients overnight, no isolation room, etc). High turnover rate for veterinarian position because Chief of Staff is known for being "difficult", and not in a high standard way but rather in a catty, obnoxious, spoiled sorority girl way. Can be sweet as pie to clients' faces but frequently berates and disparages them nonetheless. Online reviews (check out insiderpages reviews too) are overwhelmingly unfavorable, because most people can easily see though this type of veneer. Vets/techs: Unless you're completely desperate for a temporary job in the area, don't even bother considering this place. Clients: I'd strongly recommend taking your beloved animal to a legitimate veterinary hospital, where he/she will get a thorough physical exam and you'll be thoroughly educated on options and possibilities before someone who's not the doctor whisks into the room, rattling off a huge estimate of expenses. There are honest, genuine, patient-focused vets out there, but you won't find them working at an establishment like this. "Business major wearing a stethoscope? Come on in!" Sorry to the few client reviewers who referred to these people as respectful and professional...superficially, perhaps, but so is every $ucce$$fully manipulative $ale$person. more

Wonderful Vet 2/24/2011

I have been using NPAH for about 4 years or so. Dr. Scosia has been the BEST! She is compassionate and truly cares about the animals. I recently had to say goodbye to my 13 year old Lab and not only was Dr. Scosia amazing, but so was the staff. The days leading to my dogs passing Dr. Scosia and Dr. Ursitti were always focused on my dogs quality of life. They never tried to push unnecessary tests or give false hope. When the day came to make the "call", I had complete faith in my vets. On the hardest day of any pet owners life, the people at NPAH made it so much easier to bear. The kind words, hugs, tears shed along with me...this place is incredible. Days later I received a sincere and heartfelt card from the staff that I will treasure always. They could have just sent a generic card, maybe with a name or two on it to make it personal...but instead everyone signed the card and even wrote some kind sentiments about my boy. Now I am down to one Lab and my kitty. I highly reco more

Love this hospital! 2/22/2011

I drive 45 minutes one way to go to New Paltz Animal Hospital! These VETS and STAFF are the BEST EVER!!! Compassion and awesome care, I cannot say enough about New Paltz Animal Hospital. They treat everyone with respect, humor and professionalism. Never have I had Vets that I have been so happy with, and the care that my 'pets' receive is the best in the whole wide world. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! They have been there for me for routine care, major surgeries and when I lost my best friend. Worth the drive and I recommend them to everyone! more

Worst animal hospital on the east coast!!!! 2/22/2011

!!! Buyer beware!!!! This "animal hospital" (more like money mill) must be taking it's cues from the crooks on Wall Street. It is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive, and they will charge you for everything. It's so calculated that one gets the impression that you should leave the cat at home and just bring your checkbook. What a shame that a local vet has forgotten what it's all about and has focused on jacked up prices and making a quick buck. Looks as though their business model came from a used car lot. Steer clear of this place!!! Read the other reviews. Shame! Shame! Shame! more

Just.....YUCK! 11/2/2010

I am not one to write a bad review but...NPAH is not a bad place, just Dr. Socia. She has used bad language during visits (when we DID go there), she has charged us for so many things that were not needed but we had no say once they were done. She has been openly rude and arrogant. Gardiner Animal Hospital is a ride for us, we would take it any day!!!!!! The compassion is unreal. If they replace Dr. Socia, it may be an ok place to visit....until then....beware, read the rest of the reviews! more

B. Ehrsam-amazing vet! 9/30/2010

Always request Beatrice Ehrsam- she is a the best vet I have ever met. True professional with a caring heart. \r 5 years ago she was able to bring my paralyzed dog, that no other vet gave any hope, to full recovery with acupuncture! \r She the only reason to use New Paltz Animal Hospital- you can't find vet like her anywhere else. more

sue s 9/19/2010

Worst, uncaring vet I ever have seen.\r All they care about is money! I brought an injuried kitten I found on the side of the road right by the hospital.\r Next thing I know I got an outrageous bill for 'services'.\r So much for trying to do the right thing! more

Not the same place it was........... 8/11/2010

Yes, Dr. Soscia should not be in that line of work. She is extremely condescending and unprofessional. Chances are you'll pay for more tests, etc. than necessary.\r Not the same place as when Docs\r Samuels, Lapos and Cody were there.\r You can find Samuels and Cody in Marbletown Animal Hospital and Lapos at Parkside in Albany. Worth the drives for sure! more

My dog never had shot reactions before (4 years) 1 time at this vet and is had a reaction so bad I brought him back that night to be told he was having an allergic reaction and they treated him. They charged me over $250 more for that visit. Pros: in town Cons: pricey, preform tests undeeded, charge with out asking more
