New Belmont

I went to the New Belmont tonight to celebrate a friend's birthday. At 1:45 the bartender came around collecting everyone's drinks, saying it was 2:00. I said ""It's not 2:00."" She said condescendingly, ""Yes it is."" I checked my watch, and it was 1:45. I continued to finish my beer, and a waiter came around and tried to take my bottle at 1:53. I explained that I had 7 minutes to finish the last 4 sips of my beer, and he said ""I'm kicking you out now."" I replied that I wouldn't be returning to the New Belmont, and he said ""That's fine."" We left, and a man came out after us, explaining that they couldn't serve us after 2. That's fine, take my bottle at 2 then, not at 1:45. I've paid for a drink, don't make me feel like a criminal for wanting to finish it. more

The place didn?t seem very family friendly but, we stayed to see if perhaps the cuisine could make up for the lack of warmth. Big mistake! We tried the St Louis Ribs, they were very hard like jerky, the fries were half cooked and soggy and the collard greens were not seasoned. The service was not up to par either, our waiter checked on us one time; oh yeah that was to give us the bill. Never said anything about the specials (we read that on the wall after we had already ordered) I requested straws for the drinks and he brought them out without any wrappers (his hands touching our straws) and just propped them in our drinks. I purchased the Bahama mama wings, they were very good, hot off the grill and very tasty, we waited for some time to receive our plates for the wings which were sitting in a basket, my wife finally had enough and went up to request plates. I thought I was on a hidden camera show. Anyway, Don?t waste your time with this one! . more

My husband, friends, and I have dined at the New Belmont several times, and service has always been a issue for us; however, the food was always outstanding! Unfortunately, we went there this evening, it had been a while since we have dined at this restaurant, and not only had the service been extremely terrible, the food was as well! I was completly shocked!! A few months had passed since we had been there last, and I expected the service to be terrible, but the food was amazing! Any problems we had with our food or service was handled by a young woman whom looked to be kitchen staff; however, this time, when my NY Strip, which I had asked to be prepared mid-rare, and was presented to me mid-well, with a waitress whom obviously had a bad attitude, I asked for the female I had once known to take care of problems like this, the waitress told me that she had no idea what I was talking about, and that the kitchen staff was preparing a new steak for me, which was over-cooked again! I will never dine at the New Belmont ever again, and I will recommend that others do not dine there as well! Pros: nothing Cons: food was terrible, service a nightmare.. more

I had the unfortunate experience of trying out this place for brunch. I knew this was not going to be on top on my list when I was told that the place was ""out of bloody mary's"". I thought this was a brunch staple. I had a very greasy meal -- it was one of the specials of the day. The boneless fried chicken was smothered with some kind of sausage sauce. The side dish of fried green tomatoes was dripping in oil. And the added scrammbled eggs was served cold. I thought of rescuing this horrible experiencing by ordering a glass of champagne. Alas, this too, was bad! Not one tiny bubble and served in room temperature. Never again. Cons: pepto bismol more

They take what's fresh and make it part of their menu. The downstairs restaurant is very pleasant--I've taken many friends there for dinner and brunch. They put interesting twists on food--it really tantalizes your palate. The upstair bar is fun, and they often have live entertainment of great diversity. I've enjoyed all my visits there. You can get anything on their restaurant menu in the upstairs bar, until abou 10 PM. Then they have bar food, quite good. This is a neat place to hang out and have some drinks and listen to the ocassional live act up-stairs. I can't speak for the food downstairs but the menu up-stairs was not your normal bar food. They tended to take normal, everyday food and ruin it by adding classy flares. I'm a fan of electic food, but this was just not good at all. The service was good and the atmosphere was great.
