Okay for Visiting 6/24/2006

I went here on a Sunday afternoon .. its a nice place to visit, but the rowdy crowds, swarms of bikers, self seating, and a 25 min wait to get cold food eventually kills not only the appetite, but eventually your patience to be around all the drunk bikers. The food is average, nothing great. there is fresh steamed seafood, and cooked seafood- the cooked meaning ""overly fried"". it's a great place to visit just for the fact that it is a malibu landmark, but definitely not a place i can see myself going to again. last time i went to neptune's net, they were giving away free stickers with their website: greentacos.com. I didn't check out the website until I was driving later that week and I saw the same sticker in Beverly Hills, then again in Mammoth Mountain, and then again in Cabo Mexico! The site is amazing and it even has surf report for the adjacent beach along with other fun photos, etc. Plus, they show flash images of the fried seafood and it makes you hungry. more

'Good Vibes' is prbably the best way to describe this place. The location is superb on the count of their not being shopping centers surrounding every inch of the surrounding land, the sunsets are georgous, and the service is definetely friendly. Yes, there are locals, as some of the previous reviews have pointed out, but that is one of the reasons this place is so enjoyable. (Talk to them! they are very cool people!) The only con is that this place can be quite busy, but order your food, grab your drink and some chowder and enjoy a view that not all are blessed enough to see. If you like to go to a top rate restauraunt without all the formalities and prices, but still wish to enjoy a gorgeous view and a good beverage, this is the place to be. Great place to chill after a long day of relaxing 11/26/2005

I go hiking up in Circle X Ranch (the road behind the restaurant) so this is a great place to stop by on the way back to town. I've never had the steamed seafood before so I gave it a try. I got a half-pound of jumbo shrimp, a half-pound of crab legs, and steamed corn-on-the-cob. Oh man, did that hit the spot! It could stand to be a little cheaper but the food works for me. The other times I've been here, the chowder is excellent but all that fried food can weigh you down. The steamed seafood's the way to go! I remember when I first came to Neptune's 30 years ago. Wow, its changed so much. It has really cleaned up. The great thing about Neptune's is that its so unique. Its got its own life force. I tell ya, if your new to Neptune's, you got something coming because you've never been to a place like this. more

Locals only? 8/17/2005

Man, I heard so many good things about this place, I couldn't wait to go here. Well, I did a couple days ago and I really regret it. The food's decent enough, but I was basically ignored the entire time I was there. It wasn't that it was busy; I was just on the pay-no-mind list. I had to almost walk up to the person at the register and tap them on the shoulder to order anything. Man, it was humiliating. I mean, I may not be cool and ride a Harley or be a surfer-dude, but come on. Well, message heard loud and clear. I'm not eating here again. I left with $15 less in my pocket and deep disappointment after all the good things I'd heard. I just hope no one ever has to experience what I did. Locals only 8/17/2005

I wish I could join the Neptune's Net love fest, but this place is over-rated. I guess hunger is the best sauce, so if you're not starving after surfing 3 hours, this may not be the place for you, especially if you're a normal person and are watching your budget. Service for me was pretty bad; I was treated like I wasn't even there. I'm not a surfer guy or a Harley person, so maybe that's why I was on the pay-no-mind list. Man, that was humiliating. In any event, I left with some some shrimp, fries and soda in my stomach; my wallet $15 lighter; and a deep sense of disappointment after hearing so many good things about this place. Surfers love it, families love it, blue collared guys like it, even MOVIE STARS like it. Casual, fun, entertaining and the best clam chowder EVER! Best Clam Chowder 9/17/2002

Neptune's serves up the best clam chowder! We go there a lot after a full day at the beach and nothing ends the day like a trip to Neptune's. Their fried food, like shrimp and scallops is ok, nothing special but the tartar sauce is really great. more

Worth a Trip With Visitors 5/19/2002

But let me qualify that statement. The food is ok but expensive relative to its quality. You will wait for your food and seating can be difficult if the weather is nice. However, the drive is beautiful and I can't recommend enough the opportunity to drink a cold beer and watch the waves crash while real bikers and biker-wannabes swarm in and out of the parking lot.
