I and my husband found Nashville Veterinary Specialists when my baby cat (he is 13 years old Siamese) couldn't urinate. They kept my baby 3 days and nights in hospital and he had 3 major and difficult surgeries. His stitches aren't removed yet and we don't know how the end result will be, but NVS saved my baby's life and stopped his pains until now and I'm thankful to them. We hope my baby will leave 7 more years without any pain and he'll soon recover! I liked the crew, service and care quality and how much they were patience with my baby and answered to all our questions. more

Not worth the risk! 9/18/2012

This was my first emergency experience with my 5 month old puppy. It was an absolute DISASTER! Their young, apparently "educated" vet misdiagnosed the foreign object that he did not see in the colon/intestine of my dog. After prescribing fluids, anti-nausea and medications, we were sent on our way. \r \r Needless to say, his condition worsened and after vomitting multiple more times, I contacted our regular vet (who I adore and trust- Dr Brown @ Berry Hill). She asked that I bring him immediately to which upon one palpatation found an object in his abdomen and asked permission for x-rays. I agreed and sure enough, there was a large object with metal in his stomach. Did I mention, METAL on an X-RAY. How did your vet miss this 2 days prior?!\r \r Needless to say, she prepped him with an iv so as soon as we brought him over, he could begin surgery. She sent me with him and his new x-rays back to the e-vet for emergency surgery. When we arrived, they had NO idea who we were and said more

my dog came to you all with his eye popped out in the weeee hours of the night. And I was told we can wait to be checked in or give 750 to get in now, even though we were the only people their. Anyway you all are a disgrace to the human race and to the animal race. I wanted to let you know that Angie and I are on a mission to advice the world of this hateful place. Even talked to a radio show and they are advising all their people not to go to you. Just thought you should eat your wheeties because I'll be following Angie all around the Internet explaining my story as well. And when I was leaving the cows behind the desk said buh bye to me and gave me more

ALMOST KILLED MY DOG 1/25/2012

The absolute WORST place EVER!!!! Right now I am up praying that my sweet little doggie survives after what these idiots put her through this past weekend!!! I don't even know where to begin but the short version... they demand payment in full before they will help your little loved one. Fine. No problem. It's one thing to pay nearly 2,600 to HELP your dog but I paid 2,600 for them to nearly KILL my dog!!! The day after surgery they sent her home and told us to follow up with her regular vet, which we did and he said she seemed to be ok and to take her home. Took her home and that night she threw up feces (this was after an intestinal surgery) so I rushed her back to the emergency vet as it was after hours. They gave her pepcid, a pain killer and an antibiotic and told me to take her home. Took her home and in the morning she was huffing instead of breathing so I called the emergency vet because again, it was a weekend and my vet is closed on Sunday. I was told she probably had to pee more

No Money - No Baby 11/25/2010

Lastnight my dog Gordon had a "fit" for lack of a better word , exhibiting symptoms of possibly a seizure or worse a stroke . My family , we live in the real world , November 2010 ; you know the one where people are living paycheck to paycheck and sometimes things get tight in the middle with three kids and Christmas coming . Payday was a week away and on payday I would have extra money, anyway I digress . So Gordon is a mess and so are we . I run to the phonebook , call a vet . The day before Thanksgiving , nobody's working . The answering machine gives you the ER's number . I call , clearly distressed . Explain that I think he's having a stroke and could I possibly make payment arrangements to have him seen . Nope . $84 to take a look then we'll give you an estimate on anything further and you can decide if you want to pay to help your pet or not . Now I understand people skip out on payments and it is expensive to treat but I offered my debit card and they could run it on Tuesday , more

devastating. can i give negative stars? 9/29/2010

I won't go into too much detail, but I will tell you that next time our pet has an emergency we would drive to Arkansas before taking our pet here. The service was poor, unfeeling, and inexperienced. Amid my fiancee's sobbing over his cat (he had had her for 18 years--it was time, but still very hard), the vet was more concerned about getting scratched by his seizuring cat than she was about the cat or us. On top of that she misdiagnosed our cat, as we found out at our vet the next day (he pegged it in about 5 minutes--cancer). In fact, she told my fiancee his choice of flea medication was bad and that's probably what did it. After insinuating that he probably killed his cat, she went in the back and sent her assistant out with a price list "incase he wanted to keep his cat alive." In short, we paid nearly $700 to keep his cat alive for the night because we couldn't bare to see her die in a place where it was obvious the staff didn't care about her or us. The next day we took her to ou more

Always there when you need them 5/20/2009

Having had a number of dogs for many years and having the misfortune to need emergency assistance several times, I've seen the best and worst of Nashville Pet Emergency Clinic - and the worst is not that bad. When my very elderly dog suffered from bloat in the wee hours of the morning on a weekend, and I decided to let her go rather than risk an expensive surgery that might only prolong her death, I thought they could have been a little more professional. ( The client can *hear* you in the procedure room and know you're chatting about other things than the client's dying dog!) But that doesn't mean they weren't actually *doing* absolutely everything they could to relieve my dog's pain and save her life. \r \r On two other occasions when my small dogs were almost killed by larger ones, Nashville Pet Emergency's prompt action saved my dogs' lives. In one case, one of the nurses held her finger on my dog's jugular to keep him from bleeding to death.\r \r These people work abysmal hours, more

Absolutely horrifying experience 3/4/2009

My dog, Murphy, was hit by a car last week when she was accidentally let out by a neighbor. We took her to the Emergency Clinic because it was night time and after hours at our vet's office. Her injuries seemed horrible to me. I could smell poo, like she'd gone on herself, but there was no sign of poo, so I knew instinctively that it was internal and pointed to a liver failure. \r \r We brought her in and they told us she had busted up her teeth, and had some "minor internal bleeding, from her spleen", which was easily correctable with surgery. A surgery that costs around $2000. Before they would even PREP her for surgery, they demanded payment. Meanwhile, my dog is in pain. Once they started surgery, they told us that she needed a blood transfusion, but that she would survive. \r \r Forty minutes later, they told us she had a 10% chance of surviving the surgery and her liver and kidneys were destroyed. \r \r Before I even finished crying, she had a slip in front of me, asking me if I wanted more

Poor at diagnosing emergency conditions 8/31/2008

I took my dog, a collie mix, here. She who was having marked symptoms of lethargy, apparent pain, etc., behavior that had a sudden onset and was dramatically different from her usual self. The vet minimized her symptoms, did no meaningful testing, and sent her home to go to her own vet the next day. He would not be persuaded by my insistence that her behavior was indicating something was very wrong with her. I feared that she had been poisoned as she wouldn't even look at her beloved dog biscuits. I took her home and her behavior was unchanged for 90 minutes until she took a deep breath and died. Needless to say, it was devastating and I later learned likely a very painful death for her. My psychiatrist brother who worked one summer in college in a vet office diagnosed her over the phone, gastric torsion, a complete turning of the stomach, cutting off input/output to stomach and blood to upper body. It is very common in collies and other deep chest dogs and besides a few other c more

Not a happy place 5/24/2008

My husband and I loved this vet clinic when we first got our dog two years ago. Everyone was so friendly. They honored the low cost spay and neuter contract from the animal adoption agency we used. However, we have changed clinics over this past year for precisely some of the same concerns already voiced by others. The staff became very rude; it almost felt like it was a bother for them when you came in to drop off for boarding, or grooming. The straw that broke the camel?s back was, when after a week of boarding, we picked up our dog with the same amount of food that we dropped her off with, and the leaving comment from the tech was ?does you dog always bark so much(Only when she does not like you was my response).? We are now at another Bellevue clinic farther from our house but nicer service, and they only have good things to say about our dog(Who can be a handful). more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!!! 2/14/2008

Vet refused to perform necessary tests on our cat to determine what ailed her, even when informed that cost was not an issue. Even after his fill in vet suggested that an ultrasound would be prudent (he was out of town at a game). He continued to insist on only giving her fluids and pain meds. When we finally brought our cat to another vet she was diagnosed with cancer after an ultrasound and exploratory surgery. She was put to sleep that day because the cancer was so advanced. If this had been addressed earlier on, I would have sought cancer treatment or ended her suffering earlier. Vet did not listen to our concerns and caused our cat to suffer unnecessarily. ABSOLUTELY WOULD NEVER GO THERE WITH ANOTHER PET AGAIN. more

Lifesavers! 9/8/2005

Recently I noticed my puppy was having some real breathing problems, and I realized he had an object lodged in his throat. I panicked because it was 11:30 PM! My local vet's answering serviced referred me to the Nashville Pet Emergency Clinic. I called for directions and told them what had happened. When I arrived, an actual team met me at the door! The looks on their faces was as concerned as mine. They took my little guy and began working on him right away. They treated him like he was my child (and to me he was). They came out and told me what they had found and assured me that he would be all right. As I started to cry, the vet actually hugged me! If you ever have a pet emergency, rest assured your pet will get person-quality care here! more
