Murphy's Music rips people off!!!!!!!!!! 9/4/2011

Murphy's Music are the biggest crooks in the music business. I don't understand how they can still be in business after all the stories I hear about them ripping people off. They ripped me off about 19 years ago when I brought my 4*12 cabinet to them to be modified. I paid for the service in full at the time I dropped it off. A week later when I returned to pick up my cab, I had lost my receipt so I when tried to get them to look for their copy, they refused and insisted that I had not paid when indeed I did. I argued for quite sometime until I gave up and paid in full AGAIN in order to get my equipment back. Then I was stupid enough to go back to them because I did not want to drive all the way to GC just to pick up two 50' cables that I needed in a hurry one day. I was told that these cables were top of the line and they were expensive too. I only used them to run over the rafters from my keyboard setup to my console. They have never been tugged, pulled, stepped on, or jolted in any way shape or form. They have only been draped across the rafters but for some reason they have lost their continuity and don't work. Come to find out they are the cheapest cables available and those Murphy crooks once again RIPPED ME OFF. I think those two bros. must be Irish Travelers. more

Since Irving Mall 4/13/2011

I have been going there since they were in the mall and I was a kid. When Buzzy and Mike started running it and started gearing it more towards working musicians, I used it even more. I've purchased several acoustic guitars and enough strings to go around the planet from them over the years and my wife buys her mics and cords there. I have never had a bad experience there. I have been there when they are busy and things are rushing... people can seem ""too busy"" or whatever, but once I decided what I was really interested in and waited for help they have always taken as much time as necessary with me. Their staff is knowledgeable and I am happy to deal with any of them. I don't always have to ask for Buzzy. I get treated just as well. Very Happy. and thank you guys for all you have done for me and my family over the years. more

Good People 10/27/2010

I was completely shocked to see any negative review related to Murphy's Music, I have been doing business with the Murphy family for over twenty years and have never had one negative experience. If you want to deal with a cookie cutter music store that see's you as a dollar sign, then go to GC, but if you want a fair deal and people that back up what they say with great customer service, go see the Murphy's! more

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. 4/24/2009

Guitar crew was amazing, especially the repair guy who gave me tips on keeping up the strat and Dean acoustic I had/have. The orchestral associate was the nicest of them all and seemed rather out of place in his sweater and slacks. LoL I got dirty looks from the PA crew upon entering the store and worse looks when I entered the PA room. One PA rep was playing with a drum machine. I had a beat come into my head and asked him how I'd incorporate a roll. He told me I could ""slow the tempo down all the way, go 'tap tap tap,' then speed it back up again"". LoL In observing their three violins I settled on the less expensive 4/4. The other 4/4 was around $500. At $384 I decided to put it on layaway. They informed me of this arbitrary layaway interest they accredited to people who decided to back out of the deal. I payed it off in three payments and set up lessons a week before bringing it home. When I go to my first lesson my violin teacher told me that the bow they gave me was a 3/4-sized bow - for a full-sized (4/4) violin. I returned to the store the next day and traded in the bow without incident. I also picked up the only shoulder rest they had under the advisement of my teacher but they couldn't tell me anything about it nor how to put it on my instrument. Now the worst part: In shopping for the violin I didn't take heed of the brand names. When I got home I looked inside for the maker's mark and Googled it - Bestler. ...I payed $400 for a $99 violin that only got a single star in customer ratings. One website advertised it'd be good for photographers' models instead of actually playing! The best thing I got out of the the deal was the case - the bow wasn't the only thing they mismatched. All in all I'm glad I no longer live in Irving or I'd give Mike Murphy a piece of my mind for ripping me off on this deal. And rip me off he did. Hardcore. I suppose research would have been good for me, too. I wouldn't advise anyone to go here at all. -k- Pros: Knowledgable, helpful guitar staff Cons: Rude staff, layaway interest, hugely overpriced,ill-informed more

Doesn't care about keeping customers 3/15/2009

I had been a customer for ten years. In January I bought a Tascam US-144 from them. I had driver problems with it on my current computer. Tascam's support was poor, but they did suggest getting a new computer or dual booting mine. Pros: Good Selection of Gear Cons: May cheat you. more

This place will steal your money 12/20/2008

This place is a total rip off, the owners make up their own rules, if you put something on layaway and it takes more then 90 days, your screwed, Bought a rebel from them, a 4000.00 guitar, was told by mike the owner that as long as i make a payment each week that would be fine, then after paying on it for a long time, come to find out they were charging a huge amount of interest which they don't tell you, and your forced to pay it because they won't give you your money back. So if you buy a 4000.00 guitar from them and you take a year to pay it off you will have to pay around a additional 800.00 on to that guitar's final price. When contacting other guitar shops i was told they had never heard of anything like this before, the other issue i had with them was i had purchased a washburn acoustic guitar, buzz the other owner never placed the order, and it said they couldn't find the ticket. So i lost another 60.00 their. This is a very dishonest business, Pros: Good selections Cons: Overpriced, Very deceiptful, charges bogus interest more

This place is great 5/14/2007

Great guitar and bass selection, the owner, Mike, is like the friendliest dude you will ever find. Its a big store, the prices are a bit high, but they have everything you need, no use on going to other stores. Pros: Friendly people, great staff. And the biggest selection. Cons: Kinda hurts your wallet. more
