We had the lunch special. I had the grilled fish, my uncle had the beef. A lovely salad was included with sprinkles of rice cracker balls for crunch.\r The plates & bowls are beautiful, the kitchen is open for the most part. Our grilled (robusta is a grill in Japanese) food arrived promptly & was very good, it came with 3 different sauces for dipping. Grilled asparagus & a bowl of white rice was included. Everything was fresh & flavorful.\r The service was attentive & polished. Would definitely return.\r more

Excellent find in the Theatre District. Delicious sushi... We went to see Jersey Boys down the street and stumbled upon this place. Waitstaff was very knowledgable on the dishes and food was served properly. I will return more

We were the only people in the whole restaurant..until about 7pm when some pretty girls came in we think from their strip club which is next door. Food average, prices high more

Some of the finest Japanese cuisine in the city 11/29/2011

I have been going to all of the top tier Japanese restaurants in NY as long as I can remember (Yasuda, Gari, Seki etc...) Mr Robata definitely fits right in there now. The nigiri was delicious and served fusion style. The staff was super friendly and were able to accommodate our group on spot. A very pleasurable experience and can't wait to return. more

Loved it 11/29/2011

We loved dining at Mr Robata the other night. The sushi was delicious and super fresh. The Robata grilled items were simple and cooked perfectly and the service was outstanding. Highly recommended for a great dining experience! more

Incredible Food 11/14/2011

One of the best Japanese restaurants I have eaten at in NY. more

Expensive 8/8/2011

Being pleased with this place does not mean that prices are included in this perception. There are great dishes but prices are not as same as amount of food. more

Expensive menu 8/5/2011

We really wanted a New York experience and guess we had one. Seemed like the food was good but the prices were very high. The good thing is you have the whole place to yourself, if's very quiet and small, the salads were nice. more

Enjoyed 6/29/2011

The food was very delicious and inventive. Very unusual menu in a good way. Highly recommend this place more

Excellent 5/15/2011

I was blown away by this place,I wasn't really sure what to expect because Prior to dining at Mr. Robata i had never tried Robata styled cooking, so in all fairness it's not as though i had previous standards to compare it to, but everything was superb and had a great taste. One of the dishes I really loved was the kobe skewers which were soft like butter and practically melted in my mouth. I def. will be back to try more robata dishes which i am now a big fan of. more

Great find 5/1/2011

I dined at Mr. Robata last friday, the food was excellent as was the service. One of the roles in particular that stood out was called dreams do come true and featured lobster tempura, caviar, and coconut crisps which was superb. I look forward to my next visit next time i'm in the area. more

Very Over Priced Sushi 4/29/2011

We just passed by and were surprised at the prices of the sushi selections that were good but extremely overpriced for a small place. more

Run, Dont Walk! 4/1/2011

It is a rarity for New York restaurants to truly provide a flawless dining experience. When a large group of us dined here recently we left feeling great. Everything from the food to the presentation, decor to the service was perfect. The venue itself is located in a not so popular dining area (theatre district across the street from the broadway show sister act). The restaurant itself has a Tribeca/Meatpacking feel due to the beautiful decor and lounge music (and of course the expensive prices) Our party loved the chilean sea bass robata as well as the stardust sushi roll. The spicy tuna escargot was phenomenal as well as the lobster ceviche. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side. Its probably best to make a reservation because by the time we got there no tables were left and had to eat at the sushi bar. Overall, a great new asset to the theatre district and a reason for a local new yorker to actually be in times square! more

great experience 3/23/2011

i went with friends to mr. robato's and we were at first, taken aback by the prices, but we proceeded to order a lot anyway, as we're all foodies. we were so happy we did, because the food was scrumptious. we all ordered entrees, appetizers and a wonderful selection of saki. the sushi was fresh and innovative. the sliders were moist and tasty. the fish dishes were cooked to perfection. the service was great. the only thing was that i didn't want the saki served in a traditional japanese wine glass, i requested the little cups instead. anyway, we had a blast and a great dining experience. more

Service, Food, Atmosphere 3/23/2011

Dined at Mr Robata last Saturday and the food was exceptional. The service was probably the best part. It is a rarity in New York to get decent service nowadays. Overall, a highly enjoyable dining experience. One thing that I recommend is to book a res. Its not that large of a venue so you might have to wait. -Ron more

PLEASING TO THE PALETTE! 3/6/2011

I stopped in with a few friends and we thought we would give the place a try. Gee what a find! \r \r We started off with some Sake and sampled their meat skewers and some of the rolls, (my favorite was their spring roll “yummy”) and baby lamb chops. All was VERY pleasing to the palette! \r \r In addition to great food we received exceptional service, a rarity in restaurants these days.\r \r The place is not very large so I would recommend making a reservation.\r \r I'm looking forward to my next visit!\r more
