Mr Gyro's Greek Food & Pastry

how does any Greek food place NOT have saganaki on the menu? Mythos beer and saganaki has to be standard. I called and asked and the guy didn't even know what I was talking about. unreal more

I am a new hire for the new store off of 119th and Blackbob. I know that most of your reviews are for customers but I feel the need to back up the people that I work for. I LOVE LOVE the food. I have never tasted anything so great. The self serve drinks are so people can choose what they would like to drink and free refills. We only charge for extra sauces if it is a to go order, and the Mr. Gyros napkins that come on your tray with your food we only give out one be at every store by the drinks we have a dispenser where you can grab however many napkins you need. Since I started I have learned alot about the culture and just because the kitchen workers are mexican doesn't mean that they haven't been trained well. The extra tzatziki sauce is extra but is a two ounce that you get for only $.52 extra. The pastries sometimes we will let you choose which pastry off the tray that you would like but we try and give you the freshest ones available on that tray. I love the people I work for and more

Prices have gone up quite a bit since I started going here but the food is still wonderful! Not too many places make a gyro this good in the KC area. more

I just finished a strip stake Gyro at Mr. Gyros at 135Th Street. Wow, what a fantastic treat....and all for $745 including a small drink. The Pita bread was to die for and the sauce was just yummy. The atmosphere was excellent with a flat screen presentation of various cities and landscapes of Greece....a nice change from the blare of background music that drowns out conversation. There was nice Greek music played at a low decibel so conversation was not blotted out. I didn't get to try the pastry, but from the looks it must be just absolute Divine. Next time - coffee and pastry. What a great alternative to the norm of Mexican, Italian and burgers. more

We have been costumers for over 8 years, we sometimes used to go their more than twice a week, and the service did change a lot in the last past year and a half.\r The cooks are Mexicans and not Greek, the pastries gotten smaller, there is price gauging and yes they do not allow to chose the pastry, just like the other customer mentioned. Once they charged me for a plate of dolmates, when I only ordered 3 pieces and the price difference is 5 dollars extra and they never apologized or try to correct or make up for their mistake, nor did they ever refund my money, they never even said sorry. This was not enough I guess because today we still went back and tried to make business with them because the food used to be tasty, however the Mexican employees were closing 7 minutes early. I'm torn on this one because I love the food and don't really want to give a bad review, but the service I just received at the 135th St. location was appalling. The young lady that waited on me needs some serious customer service training. She was abrupt, rude, and condescending....all because I requested my salad dressing be served on the side. She wasn't the only one either. I noticed several other customers coming up to the counter with various requests and the other employee was just as rude. With the economy in shambles, I would expect the owners might want to protect their business and their customer base. If they don't train their employees properly, they're going to lose this one. more

I have been going to Mr. Giros off and on for 8 years . The food is excellent but my last experience caught me fully by suprize. For only a sandwich and salad I a paid almost $10.00. Having not been in a year I asked them why the prices were so high and the said because of inflation. the price is more the 2.50 cents more than a year ago. Inflation is has not gone up 37% in one year. I really felt cheated this time around. \r \r A disappointed customer more

I really like this place and have been visiting since they were on the east side of Metcalf ! Here's the deal: you walk in, order counter is to the right, menu board overhead with pictures of the specialities, pastries are under the glass counter, place order (cash/credit) and they call your number a few minutes later, self-serve beverages, seat yourself. The food is always good (I usually get the combination plate or daily special). If I have room left after lunch/dinner, I might get one of the great pastries. While eating you can watch the DVD travelogue of Greece. Very good food, you can get in/out quick for lunch, much better than "fast food" chains. more

We eat at Mr. Gyro's on average three times a week. The gyro meat has a great flavor and their Greek salads are excellent. The pasteries are scrumptous. They have a great operation at both locations. Chris and DeDe at the 135th and Antioch location are wonderful people and know how to attract customers with consistently excellent food. I've never seen a restuarant that has so many repeat customers. The food at Mr. Gyro's is better than you get in Greece. more

Mr Gyros is a family run little greek restaurant with authentic, healthy food that is fresh and well prepared. The gyro sandwiches are outstanding, and they have combination platters for those wanting to try a variety of greek specialties. We get take-out from them all the time, and there is a bit of a wait, since they prepare your food fresh after you order. The previous reviewer's comments about service are unfounded -- we've always found them very friendly, and willing to provide silverware and napkins when asked. Their desserts are yummy, especially the baklava. Just remember, as their door says, "always closed Sundays". more

Wow! Such a disappointment. First, they insist on charging you if you want a tad bit extra sauce. No other restaurant charges for extra condiments. Second, if you choose a pastry, they won't let you choose the exact one you want. They say they have to pull them out of the counter in order. This is absurd! Third, they don't offer you a receipt. Fourth, we had to ask for silverware and napkins (they're all hidden behind the counter) for our to-go order. After we asked, they handed us the plastic silverware and ONE measley napkin for $14 of food. These people are greedy all the way. The only saving grace was that the food tasted good, but not worth being treated the way they treat their customers. Just too greedy. AVOID. more

I've been going here for years. Some former co-workers got me going here. My wife now loves Greek food starting with her first visit. It is almost always busy, which is a good sign. \r \r The food is great, the people are friendly. The prices and selection are great! For the main courses, they display a picture and descriptive menu. The desserts are displayed under glass with the name and description. So you know what it is you are getting, even if you aren't quite sure how to pronounce it. The desserts are wonderful! more

I love this restaurant for their authentic greek food. It is a really great place to catch lunch during the week because the service is quick and the food is affordable. I always think when a restaurant is nicely full every time I go there that they must be doing something right. Definitely a great lunch choice. more

I love this buisness because it is not only fast, but excellent food. The food is healthy and priced affordably. The food is authentic and it is owned by a Greek family. When you walk in the family knows you by site and it always happy to see you. more
