Wow! It's been a while since I've been to Morry's. I grew up in Long Beach and just moved back. I wasn't expecting the changes, but was very impressed. I wasn't expecting the jewelry and boutique stuff, but loved the concept. I met the girl that buys all that stuff and it is all made my local artisans (not costume jewelry). They are even having an Artisans Night with free wine and cheese to introduce people to the faces behind the art. I thought it was wierd at first but I guess the idea is to bring high end luxury items together under one roof. They supposedly hired an artisan chocolatier for LA and they are starting a chocolate shop within the store! Oh my god! I sampled some and it was amazing.
Rumor has it that they decided to open a wine lounge that turned into a restaurant and the food was excellent. I just went in for the first time this week and was taken aback by this cozy dark lounge atmosphere that was tucked away in the back. Unfortunately, I missed out on the great entrees they had, but I was told by one of the managers that they lost their original focus which was to bring an interesting array of wines for people to try by the glass or fight and pair the wines with seasonal foods. Although the focus is more on the wines, I still had an excellent cheese plate and croque mossuier. I don't know what I was missing before, but was pleasantly pleased and suprised by the changes I experienced.
I'm a big wino and was disappointed at first when it looked like the selection had decreased. They told me that they had to temporarily loose some of the inventory as they were undergoing construction, but they are currently bringing it all back. Even the beer .... this makes my husband very happy.
