Great service, delicious food 5/21/2011

Moda was very accommodating for our party of 4 plus toddler, with the high chair all set up when we arrived at 6pm. It was not busy, and the music was the right volume to be considered trendy without affecting conversation. It's in a somewhat posh setting without being overstated, and adjoins the main lobby of the hotel. There is a large, bright skylight in the centre of the room. The butternut squash soup was absolutely delicious. We each had a different pasta, and all were great. The tiramisu is in an unusual style, presented in a large, tall glass, but it was truly yummy. Service was warm & attentive. I couldn't complain. I did see one (very tiny) fly, but it didn't stick around for long. I guess it didn't like the complimentary cheesebread as much as we did! more

Great ambiance, service and food! 10/24/2008

Dined at Moda last night with some friends and had a great time. We split a number of appetizers which were all delicious. I had the fish special which was deilicious and my friends split some pasta dishes which they all enjoyed. I would recommend Moda to anyone looking for creative Italian/Mediterannean food in a sophisticated setting. The prices are decent and they have a great wine list. The service was great which is important. Overall a great experience and I'll be back again! more

The standard by which anything is an improvement. 7/23/2008

Moda is an unforgettable experience, but not exactly for reasons you would like to remember. First, there is the horde of flies running rampant over the dining tables. When you walk in, you might just think it?s the occasional errant fly that every restaurant must suffer from time to time. Trust me, that notion will end quite quickly when you start wildly waving your napkin in mid-air desperately hoping that it will keep Moda?s insect blitzkrieg at bay. Eventually though, your desire to resist, like your appetite, will fade into a sickly feeling of queasiness, which is then overtaken by a desire to abandon Moda for the sake of being anywhere else. Pros: Flies. Lots of 'em. Cons: Extremely unclean. Mediocre to bad food. Occasionally slow service. more

Elegant dinner without being stuffy 7/27/2007

Great restaurant. Elegant atmosphere and nice wait staff. Served bread, cheese & olives when we were seated. Ordered a ceasar salad to share and I had sea bass and hubby had veal chop - all was very tasty. We ordered capachinos and didnt want dessert but they brought over a tray with cookies and strawberries. Pros: great service and food, warm atmosphere more

Terrible service 7/20/2007

My wife and I walked by this restaurant one evening and decided to give it a shot. The short version of the review is that the service at this restaurant is glacially slow. I recommend avoiding this place unless you bring your own food. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: slow, slow service more

Modern, live jazz, good food, 1/4/2007

We went to Moda, for the second time,on a wednesday evening, and we sat down for a while in the lobby enjoying sipping on a well aclaimed ""kiss and tell"" cocktail while listening to the live band( it was jazz night). We got really lucky because every wendnesday from 6-8pm they feature a complimentary wine and cheese tasting , so before we were sat down for dinner we experienced some great wines paired with various cheeses. At dinner we had the branzino and the veal chop which we were not able to finish because the portions were very generous. Service has improved a lot since our last visit, the servers were very attentive; we even had the chef and the general manager greeting us on the way out unlike our previous experience. We will definitelly go back ( thinking about restaurant week). Pros: Live Jazz, complimentary wine and cheese tasing on wednesday, good value. Cons: none. more

Cool, but blah 2/3/2006

I went with two friends for Restaurant Week. We were seated immediately and the waiter was very attentive, but to a fault. He asked us which wine we wanted (by the way, an expensive wine list for so-so wine) about four times in ten minutes, despite the fact that we were clearly not ready. When we finally were, he was nowhere to be found. He was friendly, but rushed us throughout the dinner, despite the fact that the restaurant was not full. All of our courses were brought within 30 seconds of each other- awful- the staff had absolutely no sense of timing. The food was good, but nothing extraordinary- just okay, especially for the price (even though we were paying the fixed price). The decor was nice, but it was very loud with the hotel bar right there. Overall, there are many more- and better- options. Pros: Olive & cheese plate, Trendy decor Cons: Expensive, Loud, Bad service more

Avoid if possible, not worth it 6/23/2005

Me and a friend came to try Moda out for restaurant week. I wish I had randomly picked another place, we were terribly disappointed. We were seated fastly enough, and ordering was painless, but I got the wrong appetizer, we both received the same item instead. That by itself wasn't so bad, but the food was pretty mediocre, especially considering the prices. My steak was actually not bad, my friend's cod was pretty tasteless. The waiters weren't very attentive, and were a sour bunch, not very professional at serving. The worst part was getting the check. It took around 20 minutes to get the check, after having gone through 3 waiters. They also automatically added the service charge, a bit unusual considering we were only two people. Even with the restaurant week special, I didn't feel it was a good deal, I wouldn't go back. more

Better Than Last Year 2/20/2004

The first time i was at Moda was last February it was great. I was there this Valentine's day it was even better it was extremely buzy, but still made me and my fiancé feel great. I did not didn't think the food could have gotten better than last yesr but it did. Next time i will not wait so long to go back. Pros: Great Food, Great Service more

Best Kept Secret 2/20/2004

My girlfriend suprised me for Valentine's Day and took me to Moda. From the minute we walked through the door we were made to feel special. The General Manager of the restaurant personally sat us seconds after walking through the door. The waitress ""Gina"" was very friendly and helpful. Even thought the restaurant was packed she still made sure that we received great service. The food was also amazing. As a chef working in the Boston area I thought the food preparation and presentation were top notch. I tip my hat to Moda. They really made our first valentine's together very special. Pros: Food, Service, Friendliness of Staff more

Avoid at all costs 2/16/2004

Everything that could go wrong did starting with the set menu that I was not informed of at the time of the reservation, to trying to seat us 45 minutes late at a table that was not made up. They ran out of certain dishes and said nothing when they brought replacement items to the table. Cons: , expensive more

I heard about MODA through a mutual friend - decided to check it out and loved every minute of it. There was a great buzz and atmosphere at the bar - the martini's were AMAZING!! The service was great and the food was fabulous. The grilled tuna and the grilled salmon was the best I have had in a while. I was pleasantly surprised as my experience with hotel restaurant dining has left a lot to be desired. Not only will I go back, but I will tell all my friends to go as well!! more

I want MODA 2/4/2003

Met a few friend for drinks in the lounge this past Thursday GREAT MARTINIS, the next day we decided to go for dinner food and service was just as good. We will return to try different things on the menu. Try it you will like it. Pros: Crowded, Great food, Attentive Service more

Ehhhhhhhh 12/5/2002

The place was really nice, elegant and beautiful. A really simple look. The wait staff had a couple of quick mix-ups, but overall good. The chef even gave us an extra appetizer, because it was taking long (it really wasn't that long), but the food was so-so. I guess I was expecting more. more

don't order room service 10/27/2002

We ordered room service and specifcally ordered two of the beef filets ""medium to rare."" When they came, both were dripping in blood! The inside was completely pink and red from the blood and they were both cold to boot! When they took them back, they practically burnt them to a crisp, but didnt bother to warm the rest of the food on the plate, so that by the time we got around to eating them, almost an hour and a half after ordering, the filets were seemingly spitefully burnt (beyond recognition) and the vegetables and potatoes were cold! The bill: 174 and change. Not what I expect when I shell out that kind of money. more

Small Plates - Big Taste! 8/15/2002

Went with my mom, uncle and cousin for a pre-theater bite. We all LOVED it. Instead of ordering main courses we just ordered a bunch of small plates and shared. The ravioli with mushrooms and leeks was outstanding - we asked the waiter for more bread to mop up the sauce and the polenta with gorgonzola was heavenly. Some drawbacks - Tomato risotto was a bit bland and the famous artichoke appetizer is no longer on the menu. The service was abit slow especially since our waiter knew we had theater tix but he was very nice. Over all - a great find in the theater district Pros: great variety, moderately priced Cons: expensive wine list, service can be slow more

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! 7/1/2002

Last Saturday we went with another couple for dinner. The food was even more outstanding then the first time we went. The wine was excellent and the food was just incredible. Our waiter, Marcello, was so helpful and knowledgeable in evey way. You can tell, he enjoys his job. This will definitely be the restaurant for us and all of our friends. The chef is just outstanding!!! more

Shut the door! 6/10/2002

Very good food but please shut out that horrible music. Maybe the DJ was paticularly bad that night but he ruined our dining experience. you don't go to the restaurant to put up with terrible music. If the music was well mixed I would definitely recommend this fantastic restaurant. Excellent service, tasty bread+olives+cheese, beautifully presented dishes. I am sorry for the chef. Pros: Delicious food, Excellent service, Fun menu Cons: Terrible music more
