I love it! 4/4/2006

The food is great, hats off to the chef. Although the drinks are a little pricey, they are well worth it. I recommend reservations, especially at night time and especially on the weekends because it gets really busy. The live music is great! To be such a small restaurant and for it to be so busy I think the the staff does an outstanding job Pros: food, service more

Harlem's Finest 3/7/2006

I have been to MoBays atleast 10 times in teh past six months and each time I have enjoyed it more and more. I was utterly surprised when I read some of the other reviews which mentioned negative things about the staff. The manager has always been welcoming and friendly and the waitstaff is a cut above the rest. I was impressed from the visit and my expectations continue to be surpassed with each visit. This has become the monthly meeting place for me and my girlfrends. And the bartender serves one of the best martinis i have ever tasted. Please visit MoBay and formulate your own opinion I guarantee you won't regret it. Thanks to teh owner and staff for bringing class back to Harlem. Pros: PROFESSIONAL STAFF, DRINK SELECTION, ATMOSPHERE Cons: YOU WILL NOT WANT, TO , LEAVE more

Save your money...eat elsewhere! 1/29/2006

I had the misfortune of being a guest at Mobay on 1/28/06. We were coldly greeted by a hostess and wait staff who, in spite of our reservation, did not want to seat any of us, including the elderly, until our entire party had arrived. After convincing them to seat us, we were warned that if our entire party of nine did not arrive by 7:20PM, we would lose our reservation. AND THIS WAS THE HIGHLIGHT of the evening. The food was mediocre, at best. The red snapper was so small it should have been thrown back. The jerk shrimp had no kick. A birthday cake had been ordered 2 weeks in advance. We were charged by the slice for the entire cake ($60). The drink specials were basically soda and flavored vodka, at $10-12 each. Cons: very cramped, rude staff, overpriced more

Will Never Eat Here Again! 1/29/2006

Rude manager and wait staff. Not a good place for large groups. Had a reservation for 10. 4 of us arrived at 6:45 for a 7:00 reservation. We were threatened and told that if the entire party was not there by 7:20 we would be asked to leave. The reservations were made a month in advance and confirmed at least on 4 separate occassions including the afternoon of the dinner before arrival. The staff is not professional and does not know how to cater to large parties. The food was just ok and was the dinner prices are outrageous. Additionally, there is a huge mark-up on bar drinks. Service was slow and the food arrived cold after the long wait. I ordered an entire cake for the birthday celebration from MoBay and was charged $65 for the cake alone. My advice is to leave MoBay's alone. Horrible, horrible experience. Cons: Crowded, Unresonably expensive, Rude and Nasty more

Watch Your Bill 9/4/2005

The foor was excellent and I would recommend this place to others. I would suggest that you check your bank statement if using a debit card. The cashier at the front charged me twice for one lunch special and getting my account credited was a big ordeal. more

I really like Mobay! 7/22/2005

They always have live music and the musicians are well chosen and excellent! I love the food too. They have a smoker on site so the ribs are EXCELLENT! The two-sided bar is a wonderful place to sit and they have a very good drink selection. I can't say enough good things about Mobay. It was JUST what Harlem needed. Thanks! Pros: Great Ribs!, Great Music!, Fun Bar! Cons: Congested in front more

Total Upscale Surprise-Let them Eat Ribs 6/20/2005

A friend and I were strolling to the subway last night after an Apollo Theater Fundraiser on 125th Street and this lively little place brightened up the block and aroused our curiosity. We went in and were greeted warmly, we sat at a unique two sided bar, expecting to listen to live jazz and have a drink. After a moment I had the catfish strips, fabulous, then my friend tried the baby back ribs, outstanding. We journeyed on to the crabcakes, best I've ever tasted. Two friends joined us at the bar and had the combination appetizer platter. We all proclaimed that the bar food at MoBay is as good as it get's in the city. I am going back for dinner soon, to enjoy good eats and great live music, what a find. Pros: Convenient, Inexpensive, Great Taste more

Awful Rude Disappointing Service 3/28/2005

I called to make reservations for 10-13. When we arrived at the restaurant that Sat, every employee acted as if they had never heard of us. The rude manager practically called me a liar and told me that no one would ever allow me to make reservations for over 10 ppl. I told her of my conversation with the hostess and that I even confirmed that I was bringing my own cake. I asked what I should do because my whole party (incl out of towners, pregnant women, etc) had arrived. She shrugged her shoulders and told me she could seat us at random tables after seating other parties who actually did have reservations, otherwise, wait 2 hrs to sit together. I then called the nearby Den. They were not quite open for the evening, but told me that they would open early to accommodate us. Now thats service! Pros: good food more

Great Addition To Harlem 2/26/2005

obays embodies what a restaurant should be about. The food is excellent, always fresh, always consistent and presented beautifully. I have not had one dish there that I have not enjoyed. The ambience is rich and relaxing ready decorated and befitting any occasion with appropriate live entertainment. Mobys possess an intimate, yet open and friendly environment. I have met and enjoy many wonderful people. I look forward to More Mobay!! more

false advertising 1/8/2005

The food and service was average, but the gospel brunch was nonexistent because there was no separate brunch menu and the music promised, a live band, never showed up. Unlike most brunch places, the coffee and drinks are billed separate. When I got the bill and saw I was billed separately for each cup of coffee, I asked the waiter if he could do anything since the menu doesn't even list drinks and the manager said no. After tax/tip lunch was $24 pp. Pros: variety more

Great Ambience Great Food 12/20/2004

I dine at MoBay frequently at least once a week. having seen the prior reviews I thought some advice from a regular might help. The whole fish dishes are divine but on weekends they can take 45 minutes between 7 and 10 PM. If one of the diners orders fish everyone dining with him is locked into the same wait. Monday through Thursday at MoBay is heaven. For a quiet dinner I go on Monday or Sunday night or I conclude my business dinner by 9 PM any day of the week, before the music starts. I come after 10 PM on weekends and enjoy the more relaxed ambience, great bar conversation, good food and world class music. See you at MoBay Monday through Thursday. Of course if you don't mind the crowd it is very popular on Weekends and please try the ribs. Pros: Reasonably Priced, Gorgeous Ladies Room, Best Collard Greens more

Horrific Service 12/16/2004

This is not written to insult or offend, but more as a friendly suggestion. I have been to Mobay's several times and referred several friends and co-workers and the same comments ring true time and time again. The food is wonderful, but the service is lacking. Regardless of how tasty the meal, it becomes quite lacklaster after being forced to wait an hour or more for a jerked shrimp appetizer. The live performance could have been a nice added touch to the ambiance had it not been a blaring loud distraction throughout the meal. For such a small venue, light jazz and singing piped in lightly is all that's necessary. As much as I love to support new establishments in my Harlem neighborhood, I must say that I will not frequent MoBay's again until I feel that I can receive adequate service and an enjoyable dining environment. Pros: Good Food, Nice Ambiance, Friendly Hostess Cons: , Annoying live music, Disorganized kitchen more

Spotty but Harlem still needs MoBay 11/13/2004

Food is quite average by NY standards, but the ambiance is nice and they make a nice friendly effort. Front is good for lunch (can get cold in winter), back for dinner (don't sit by the kitchen). Overall parochial non savvy but pleasant. I've encountered early closings, closed for parties, and non-existent delivery (why even advertise delivery???) I'd recommend the BBQ dishes and cornbread, stay away from the specialty cocktails and dishes that seem inventive. But they really do seem to be nice people and mean well... Pros: BBQ, cornbread, decor Cons: , consistency, DELIVERY!! more

MoBay needs Mo' Flavor 11/1/2004

I had dinner at MoBay on a Wed evening recently. My dinner partner told me that it is usually crowded on the days he goes (Thurs thru Sun). It was nearly empty when we arrived, so we were seated promptly. Waitress was attentive. Cornbread with pineapple sauce was good. I ordered the jerk chicken and was not impressed--somewhat bland. The macaroni and cheese, while good, was ice cold. The steamed veggies were excellent. Not too soggy. The food was not terrible; just wasnt that great. Although I was not moved by my meal, my friend enjoyed his soy concoction thoroughly. I will say that what the restaurant failed to achieve with its cuisine, it more than made up with the ambience. One drawback about the music--a little too loud and the CD kept skipping. Overall an average experience, but I will probably not return for a meal. Drinks maybe. Pros: cozy setting, vegetarian entrees, great side dishes Cons: , bland meat dishes more

More Mo-Bay for me! 9/16/2004

I love the environment, it gives a relaxing and at home feeling. My first time I was kind of iffy about going; but they proved me wrong. Its a great place to eat with friends or even have dinner with your romantic love. The bathroom was beautifully (I didnt want to leave). The service can be improved though. They chit chat too much instead of serving the customers. Overall the place is a go and a keeper. I'm glad and proud to see a wonderful place as such in Harlem. Thanks! Pros: Good Food, Environment, Music more

Ok but there's better in new Harlem 7/12/2004

Just had lunch there this past weekend. I was excited to try one of the new places in Harlem. I have wached theses new places move in. Along with MoBay, there's: Revival, Native, Sugar Hill Bistro etc. The service was great and helpful. But my food was definately Lackluster. Perhaps I just picked the wrong thing, but BBQ is one of the things they're known for. It was bland with a lot of sauce. The cornbread with coconut and pineapple was the best. The music was way too loud. On a Sat afternoon, most people want to chill and talk, not PARTY. I saw familys and couples tyring to connect, while the resteraunts help just talked loud over the speakers near the bar. It's great having some more choices, along with the standard Amy Ruths, Londels, Slyvias, etc, but MoBay seems to work more on it's image than it's food Pros: service, appetizers Cons: , bland food more

Undeniably the best! 7/5/2004

Elegant! Sophisticated! Classy! Exquisite! DIVINE!Change has finally come! MoBay has brought to Harlem what no other establishment would even dream of doing. We no longer have to travel to midtown or downtown for fine dining and great food. The salmon (whether BBQ, Grilled, Pan-Blackened or Curried Coconut) is to die for! Other restaurants in Harlem and other Caribbean or Soul food restaurants are competing for the number 2 spot because MOBAY UPTOWN IS UNDENIABLY #1! Pros: Great Cuisine, Very Inviting, Gorgeous Restrooms more

One of New York's Finest 6/30/2004

I am a regular at MoBay. You truly are provided with the best value, the best ambience and the best food, prepared to order that Manhattan has to offer in this price range and for a lot more money. You can't get better ribs in New York for any price. I am prompted to write this review due to the negative review that I just saw posted. Ladies and gentlemen do not believe it. MoBay is an extremely popular restaurant and with good reason. It's about the taste. The food is freshly prepared and if you don't want to wait, come on Monday through Thursday. Take your friends here and they will think you are a god, what else could explain your awareness of this divinely, sublime and gorgeous room serving such exquisite treats. If you want a quiet or romantic Friday or Saturday dinner come after 10:00 PM. Pros: Easy Parking, Inexpensive, Pretty People more

No Mo Bay for Me 6/26/2004

I was part of a 6 person rehearsal dinner on a Friday evening and I hope this dinner doesn't predict how the marriage will go. The hostess who sat us was nasty as could be. We waited approximately a half hour to order drinks and it took 45 minutes to get them, when they came with our appetizers and no apology. We hadn't even finished our appetizers when our main course showed up. My salmon was dry as a bone tasting like it was just heated in the microwave. It took 20 minutes to get my second drink. When we received the bill, we asked the manager to do something about the drinks, considering how poor the service was and her reply was, ""Well, you got them!"". They are only interested in the money they are making that night rather than makng customers or friends. SEE YOU ALL AT BAYOU! Cons: , slow, noisy more
