A late lunch 5/16/2007

Earlier today, my daughter & I enjoyed a relaxed & carefree experience. We were greeted on arrival by a pleasant hostess who turned out to be the owner of this unique restaurant. Although my daughter was primed & ready to sample the Sushi, I decided to order a "cooked" specialty, the "Tempora",as recommended by Youshito. She also recommended the Sampora Japanese Beer which came with chilled mugs! The service was excellent & the courses were skillfully prepared. We'll be back! Tara & Ray from Monroe,Ct. more

One of the best Japanese restaurants anywhere 8/4/2006

There is not better artistic cuisine in the entire state than Miya's. The menu, which reads like a novel, is both entertaining and challenging, incorporating ingredients that you would never think go well together but does. You just have to go there. more

Open Letter to Bun Lai and Miya's Sushi 7/28/2006

Dear Bun, I would like to thank you for the magical evening. We have had so many together, but paradoxically, each seems to be unique and special. Upon reflection, this is the magic of a night at Miya's with Bun Lai presiding as sorcerer. Goethe once wrote that "one ought, everyday at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words." Though I feel some trepidation in amending such fine words from such a supremely perceptive man, I dare say that Goethe, if he ever dinned at Miya's, would have included "to eat a lovely meal, and pass time with a beautiful soul," to his requisites for a good day. Not many bring such goodness into the world for others to experience and take into their lives. It is the combination of a rare gift and creative energy. You should know this. Yancy more

Brie and sweet potato sushi? Yes!!! 7/6/2005

Yale students go sake bombing at Miya's. Nothing wrong with that - but Miya's is so much more! With a menu of radical sushi concoctions and ingenious drinks featuring sake (I recommend the watermelon saketini and the juniper scented sake and tonic), you can delight all your senses at Miya's (or smash them into submission - see above). Best bet - head in on an all you can eat sushi night. For a reasonable fee (around $30, I think?), they will keep bringing you plate after plate of sushi until you cry for mercy (chef's choice, but you can tell him what you like or don't like - I don't do anything without fins or scales, which was fine by him, I've seen people do exclusively vegetarian rolls) Some concoctions are bizarre and ill advised, like the artichoke/pesto rolls, but most are ridiculously wonderful - cajun seared salmon, and the infamous brie with sweet potato rolls. more
