Cozy rustic late-night sanctuary 12/5/2006

Was visiting LA for the first time and went to have dinner with a friend. Headed toward Santa Monica. An hour driving later at 11pm and we are still at a loss. Last-minute phone recommendation from a friend led us to Mirabelle's. Found it cozy and relaxing, with a nice ramshackle wood interior and low lights. Pro service from a waiter with a southern accent, prices aren't cheap but neither are they unreasonable... pasta bolognese and tuna steak were simple, solid, and well executed. Good place to go if you have $60 to spend for two. Glad to have found this spot. Cheers. more

New Menu 8/18/2006

Mirabelle is next door to my office so it tends to be ""the place"" for a business lunch. For a long time I felt the prices were high and the value low. However, they have recently adjusted their lunch menu to include a section called 10 Lunches for $10. As you can imagine, it features salads, sandwiches, and burgers for the low price of $10 with a side. An appetizer of bread and an olive tampenade is always available. Pros: Variety more

Great atmosphere and food! 8/14/2006

I was able to make reservations same-day for a party of 12. There was easy valet parking in the back. It was a cozy atmosphere and comfy large table. Service was a little slow, but the food was excellent. I had the Filet Mignon, which was very tender. Everyone else loved everything! Pros: Food Cons: Nothing really more

Good food, interesting lunch special menu 6/6/2006

The best thing about Mirabelle is the 10-for-$10 lunch menu. Basically, 10 interesting choices for lunch specials that are $10 each. Not bad for Sunset Strip -- the competitors up the street on the Plaza charge twice as much for food that usually isn't even as good. The downer is that the service is not fast enough to eat in a one-hour lunch period; they have a more "continental" attitude of not rushing you, but as a work-lunch spot that makes it just a tad on the slow side. Pros: Food, lunch specials Cons: Speed of service more

Exceptional Regular Food 6/3/2006

Mirabelle is a gem, plain and simple. If you are tired of restaurants charging $24 for jellied cucumber, creme freche, and a bite of fish in a shot glass then this restaurant is the perfect retreat. The dishes here range from very good to superb. The eight hour braised short ribs, filet mignon with butter poached lobster tail, tuna tartare, bacon wrapped figs stuffed with chorizo, and flank steak are among the best dishes I've had in LA. The bar is a great meeting spot but be forewarned that smoking is allowed out there becuase the roof can be opened. The $7 happy hour menu (from 4-7pm daily) is a steal. Pros: Every Dish is Great, $7 Happy Hour Plates, No weird creations Cons: , Sunset Blvd is Noisy more

Great lunch spot 4/2/2006

They have smoked salmon, ahi tuna sandwich and a large, tasty burger along with several other selections for $10 on the lunch menu. Considering where its located on Sunset and the atmosphere, you might expect to pay more. Cobb salad is also very good and large enough to almost guarantee you are the last one to finish. Everything I have ever ordered has been fresh and flavorful. I have also seen some celebs here after the normal lunch hour. Pros: value, lunch menu, atmosphere more

  • The Scene
Walk down the handful of steps at this Sunset standby and enter a world of elegant dining with a touch of kitsch--Andy Warhol would dig the '80s-inspired lip-shaped sculpture. The glitzy pre-nightclub set sticks to the bar, while industry-ites and B-list celebs clutter the adjoining open-air restaurant and patio. Fresh seafood, daily oyster specials and classic entrees are the backbone of the American bistro fare. Jalapeno-spiced calamari is served with forgettable cocktail sauce, but the meaty blue crab cakes paired with tangy papaya relish and sweet chili butter are a hit. As an entree, tasty herb-encrusted Chilean sea bass, served on a bed of ratatouille, is a fish-lover's dream. The generous slab of grilled New York sirloin couldn't find a better companion than truffle mashed potatoes. Lamb lovers will enjoy the Colorado rack, simmered in its own rich juices and served atop a creamy pistachio risotto.
