Best

I love this place just wish we could afford to go more than once a month.

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/15/2013

I love it...it is true that they are heavy on the sauce and have a lot of fried options... but you can choose lighter fare... and I personally love the specialty rolls they have...it is a good place for my husband who is not a huge fan of raw fish sushi (I am though!) as we both have lots of options we are happy with. more

Carmen Roll Lover 8/27/2010

I love this place, the staff is the best, the food is the best, and a really good waiter will give you ideas on what to create or what to try based off your likes and dislikes. Best sushi in town I miss the bartender though! more

I would highly recommend this restaurant to all who enjoy authentic sushi and friendly servicce. One note you may have to wait this place is always full of patrons, mostly regulars like us!! Overrated Mayonaisse Sushi 2/16/2008

Unless you must be seen jamming mayonaisse covered sushi in your mouth amongst the silicon glitteraty of Sacramento, go elsewhere to get some good food. Pros: Easy to spell Mikuni Cons: Too sceney to provide decent food more

Without a Doubt Best Sushi in Sacramento. 4/28/2007

Mikuni is not a traditional sushi restaurant. Mikuni is the definition of ?California Sushi? and is famous for their superb sushi rolls. People interested in conventional nigiri may be satisfied with Mikuni?s excellent fresh fish but a large part of what separates Mikuni from everything else is the quality of their sauces and the balanced combination of texture and taste in nearly every single roll on their menu. Some of the less than stellar reviews for this restaurant may have come from people approaching it like a normal sushi-ya but that truly does not do this gem of a restaurant justice. Abandon any snobby elitist sushi preconceptions and appreciate Mikuni for its amazingly delicious and extremely well crafted rolls. With nearly 100 rolls available at three convenient locations Mikuni is without a doubt the best sushi restaurant in Sacramento.\r P.S. My favorite rolls are the Spicy Johnny, Train Wreck, and Carmen. Also the Puff Daddy, BBQ White Tuna, and Citrus Blossom are amazing non-roll options. more

Good Food Overshadowed by Poor Service. 4/4/2007

I've been to Mikuni twice now and for Sacramento, it's good sushi. The fish is fresh and tasty and they have had all the types I like such as Hamachi ""Toro"" Sashimi. I tend to prefer sashimi and nigiri sushi and tend to stay away from the rolls, so I can't comment on on Mikuni's rolls. As seems to be the growing trend in America, Mikuni does not offer an oshibori (hot towel) which is traditional in Japan to clean ones hands. Rather they give out an oversized moist towelette like you find at KFC. Then again, Mikuni doesn't portray itself as a traditional sushi place and I wasn't expecting it. If there is a good traditional sushi house in Sac, I have yet to find it. While the fish I've had at Mikuni has been very good, it has been overshadowed by the poor service at the Fair Oaks location. On my first lunch time visit, it was just inattentive service at the sushi bar. My second visit was far worse with the sushi chef being down right rude to my party and myself. When I weigh the quality of the food against the rude service and hefty prices, I doubt I will return. I'll just keep travelling to the Bay Area every few months to get my sushi fix. Pros: Fresh Fish, Good Sushi Selection. Cons: Inattentive and rude sushi chefs more

Best Sushi in Citrus Heights 2/5/2007

I just moved here & Mikuni's is the best Sushi I can find in Sac. \r The Scott roll is the best (just my opinion).\r The younger seaters/hostesses need to work on there customer service but everyone else is great! Pros: Great Food, Tastes wonderful & visually pleasing. Cons: The young ladies that seat you could learn some better cs skills. more

Eh. 10/16/2006

Mikuni is okay. It's definitely not my favorite. The rolls are slightly better than average and it's super expensive and it's like wal-mart for sushi, so I can't stand by that. I boycott it... unless someone else is buying! Pros: ummm, it's popular. Cons: overpriced and not interesting, food is so-so. more

Best sushi I've ever had... 9/6/2006

Definitely try the Marilyn Monroll and Trainwreck... simply delicious! The staff is very nice. Music is wonderful (for an 80's music fan), it took me back in time. The bar has a wonderful assortment of wines. Hands down, a great place with great sushi! Pros: The sushi. more

I'm hopelessly addicted! 5/5/2006

The food here is just so tasty! I always order a pepperfin (fresh raw albacore tuna with a light brown sauce) and a Sa salad. They have specials from the sushi bar that I cant seem to find anywhere else, like a black and white (I wont even share this with my husband!)The servers are always nice and even though they appear to be almost over-whelmed with the amount of customers,we can see they are really doing their best for every table.I can happily tell you this is my favorite japanese restaurant. Pros: food, friendly staff, really good food Cons: long wait, crowded, small waiting area more

Awsome Sushi 12/5/2005

Mikuni's has the best sushi in Sac period! Hubby and I have ventured to different places trying to find a place less expensive and busy, but we are always disapointed with the food. We always end up back at Mikuni's! It may cost a little more, and you may have to wait longer for your seat, but belive me it is well worth it! The service has always been great and they are always willing to give recomendations. The one time that we didn't enjoy something our waitress recommended she took it off the bill! We never even complained about it! I have to eat there at least once a week or I go through withdrawl! The funny thing is I was never a sushi junkie before Mikuni. Pros: Served quickly, awsome food Cons: very busy more

User review by mandyterry 10/10/2005

I have eaten MANY times at Mikuni's and each time has been very pleasing. I have eaten at several sushi restaurants across the country and out of them all Mikuni's is the best! The quality of the ingredients is excellent, the service is top notch and the food will blow you away. Everything is masterfully prepared from the sashimi and sushi to the udon noodles. As far as value goes when it comes to sushi like most things in life you pay for what you get. Good sushi is somewhat expensive but well worth it. For the most part I find the prices at Mikuni's to be very reasonable. There is nothing below average about the sushi and sashimi at Mikuni's. Give Mikuni's a try. You won't regret it. Pros: excellent sushi, wonderful service, nice staff more

This is for the Roseville restaurant 7/12/2005

What is the problem with getting a table for xx amount of peolple but not having all of them there. They are on the way. We were the first to arrive and tried to get a table for four and were told that unless the whole party was there they would not seat us. I thought that this was a family oriented place that catered to the customers. Apparently they are only ionterested in making money. Cons: no reservations, long wait for kids more

Mikuni? 6/10/2005

Make it simple, ""Fair"" is the only word I could use to describe them, probably I was from San Francisco, there are a lot more japanese restarant way better than 'em. But on the other hand, great atmosphere... Cons: expensive more

Mr. 1/26/2004

The best quality sushi I have ever had in the US. Quality, selection (100 rolls) to go along with the cooked traditional options. Pros: quality, selection, artistic display Cons: expensive, always busy more

Definitely ordinary 10/27/2003

I've had the cheapest sushi ($1 for two pieces) to the most expensive ($90 for two pieces), and I can say with conviction that Mikuni's sushi is ordinary. It takes at least 10 years of training under master sushi shokunin (literally translated, ""sushi craftsman"") to become a decent sushi shokunin. From the flavor of the shari (vinegared rice), choice of neta (fish), and construction of nigiri, it's obvious that the guys behind the counter at Mikuni's have had little or no professional training. To top it all off, no Japanese restaurant with any pride would serve frozen croquette as Mikuni does. The dead giveway is its perfectly oval shape. Pros: Price Cons: Poor taste, Serves frozen food, Crowded more

Good but not Great 9/24/2003

Long wait for table and not a lot of seating for those waiting. Restaurant can get loud and service is not great. The food is good but not great. Good for large groups sharing a Boat of Sushi. The seared tuna with spicy white sauce is good as well, but rich. more
