I looove Middlesex! I rarely hang out in Cambridge but this is one bar I have never had a bad time at. At first sight it looks totally boring, it's just a tiny empty room. But r...

Appaling Treatment 5/27/2005

I have never in my life experienced such treatment in front of an establishment and I have been to bars and clubs accross the world. My friends and I were treated like stray dogs so to say the ""bouncers"" or the door staff was rude would be an understatement. Perhaps the place is nice inside but my recommendation to the management would be to change the policy and the staff in the way they treat their patrons. more

Best Music in the City 5/24/2005

After all the hype in the papers, I finally decided to check this place out. I have to admit that I instantly fell in love the place. I am not sure what I expected, but it is very different than any other Boston club. Ive been back several times since then, and each time it has been great. The bartenders are fun and friendly, the vibe is cool, and the music is incredible. I've checked out several nights (all which are good) although I have mostly gone to hear old school hip hop on Saturdays. There were two DJ's that spun all types of old school hits that had me and my friends dancing. I love the furniture on wheels- early on its a pretty chill spot, and then later people push the furniture away to dance. My girlfriends and I will definitely keep coming back. Pros: great music, fun crowd, cute boys! Cons: a line sometimes, expensive food more

Great lounge for Central Square 1/10/2005

i don't know what all these negative reviews are about. its a great space with above average music. not all the DJs are technical wizards but their content is solid enough. definitely better than what you can hear in boston. due to all the press, there's now a wait to get in and no, they don't let you pop in to chat with your friends even for a moment. it's just their policy so get their early and bring your cell phone. as for the venue decor, if you don't like modern decor, you won't like the space. rectangular sitting benches move around to accommodate your party size. good idea. and the crowd? hipsters, Cantabridgians/Bostonians, MIT/Harvard students a mix of real people. the food is a bit pricey for what you get but its high quality. place is owned by MoS/Audobon/Cambridge1 folks so expect the same crowd & feel. Pros: Inexpensive drinks, Varied crowd, Solid music Cons: , Food is pricey more

Hotspot! (for rejects) 12/17/2004

Saturday night, waited on line for ~30min. There is no decor save the black painted walls, floor, exposed industrial rafters. Seating is limited to uncomfortable banquettes, which are situated to achieve the maximum flow restriction in the room. The crowd was 30somethings to middle-aged rabble who still haven't mastered personal grooming or motor control. The music: was it techno? was it bad 80s? IMostly, it was chosen and mixed poorly. Speaking of mixed poorly...their top shelf vodka martinis tasted like soap. We drank ours fast and ran like hell for Boston. Pros: Near public transport, nice exterior Cons: , uninteresting decor, the Out crowd more

Dear Middlesex 12/8/2004

Thank you for not being cheesy or having typical boston djs. My girls and I love the vibe and people who go there. Thanks for the mojito last night and 4 other ones after that. I will be back often and thanks for the bartenders! Pros: its open, no meatheads, nice vibe Cons: , sometimes a line more

The Spot 12/8/2004

Plain and simple this place is the best i've been to in cambridge or boston. from my experience everybody is extremely nice, the djs always seem to have as much fun as the crowd, and it looks great. Pros: girls, quality, atmosphere Cons: , that is it more

boo urns 12/7/2004

i was thoroughly disappointed with middlesex. while i thought that the food/drink was nicely priced, i was very disappointed with the staff, both bar and management. i called a few times to try to speak to a manager about booking events there, and found that i was ignored, with phone calls never being returned. it's too bad that a place as nice as this has people so incompetent running it. more
