This place is a piece of history, along with the town. It is maintained beautifully, the staff is courteous, attentive and competent and the place is just great.

Worst experience in hotel ever! 2/25/2012

I suffer from arthritis and cold tempertures make my condition worst. At this hotel the room temperature was cold. I asked for heat to my room and was told that the whole hotel was either operating air conditioning or heat and that I had to put up with the room temperature! The hotel manger also told me that it had to get down to 40 degrees outside before the heat in hotel would be turned on! I have never heard of such a business where guests are required to endure cold rooms. I will never return to this hotel and advise others with medical conditions to stay away from this place. more

Historical but expensive 12/9/2010

This small, beautiful bar has a long history which it makes it worth a visit. However, I won't be back. Five dollars for a domestic beer on a Sunday afternoon is simply taking advantage of your customers. more

Historic doesn't always mean nice. 4/21/2009

The Menger is situated in the heart of San Antonio right across from the Alamo. We stayed their for a conference. The lobby and conference facilities were very nice. The food was very good. The rooms... they are old and desperately in need of updating. The carpet felt dirty and it was difficult to tell if the bathroom was really clean. My friend found a half eaten pop-tart in the closet of her room. This hotel is definitely not worth the price. more

Great Historic Hotel 11/14/2008

We have been going to the Menger for many years. It is a beautiful old hotel. Lots of history, and right next door to the Alamo. My son LOVED it. I love the antiques. more

Sleep like a Baby!!! 2/6/2008

My family and I stayed this hotel. It is very nice. We loved the inside. The room is beautiful. The bed had beautiful white fluffy pillows with a soft thick white comforter. The staff was amazing! This is a little bit on the high end but it is so worth it. The hotel is very clean. I highly recommend it. more

Stiff drinks 2/15/2007

If you're a local to the city, I would not recommend this bar. Maybe for some drinks after work and to unwind. Of course a lot of tourists in the bar,..........it seemed to uptight. The only good thing I'd have to say about this place is the drinks we're great. If you like your drinks strong, this is the place. So, if you happen to be attending a wedding reception at this hotel, drop by for a drink. Pros: Strong drinks Cons: Prices on the high side, but the drinks are worth it,....not the best friendly enviroment. more

A look into the past. 1/13/2004

San Antonio is one of the oldest cities in the US and this bar is a direct link to it's past. Photographs of old San Antonio adorn the walls, the light fixtures are all gas converted to electric, and old style Edison lightbulbs are even used for authenticity. The woodwork of the bar is absolutely phenomenal. It's awe inspiring to think of all the souls that have passed through the doors over the last 117 years - how many conversations have taken place at the very table you are sitting at. I am somewhat of a history buff so this place is really a thrill for me. It's amazing that it still exists and the fact that it remains virtually UNCHANGED makes it a treasure. Any one who visits or resides in San Antonio should visit this bar at least once. more
