Could it get better than the ample vegetarian choices, the delicious food (try the falafel sliders! the grilled cheese! all salads!) and the friendly service in a charming space? Why yes, it just did, because Melt has added a weekend brunch. Now you don't have to sit in Moomoo's half a day waiting for the snail-like service or deal with the unpredictably uneven food and service at Papa Hayden's or Besaw's, if you want a good brunch in the neighborhood. Everything is fresh and superbly cooked so far as I could tell by watching the happiness of my fellow brunchers. My veggie scramble was light, fluffy and yummy. The potatoes with it were great. The scone was terrific. The food here tends to be light, as in not greasy or heavy, but you get plenty of it. I may have to fall off the veggie wagon for the incredible looking chicken waffle. The woman eating it seemed blissed out!\r

Sadly, the new ownership has made all this obsolete. The grilled cheese is now greasy and limp instead of crispy with a creamy interior, and it features a mild, tasteless cheddar instead of the sharp one of before, the bread is awful now, and the tomato soup tastes of overcooked basil. Simple food must start with great ingredients and be cooked with care. That's the way Melt used to be, but no more.
