I Hate Them, Love Their Fries 12/14/2002

I don't know what they do or how they do it, but McDonald's fries are the best. The rest of their food is atrocious; the service stinks; the brain-dead drive-up window attendants should be piked; the merchandising is criminal; their other food is ugly and overpriced; good God do they have the world's best french fries. You'd have to be insane to choose McDonald's as one of the best breakfast places in the Bay Area. The only thing McDonald's breakfasts are good for are when one is on a roadtrip and desperate. The Bay Area has so many fabulous restaurants, a large number of which serve breakfast and/or brunch, that you'd have to be nuts to go to McDonald's. If it's a price issue, you can get a cheap bagel at Noah's or any of dozens of local coffee shops and be healthier and just as cheap. more

Come on, people. McDonalds does not belong in any 'best restaurant' guide, anywhere, anytime, ever. ""Best of"" guides should be reserved for those places that are unique, original and care about what they make. Fast-food restaurants are in a sad, greasy category of their own. Every McDonalds I go to seems to serve old, cold fries even during the busy times when yoiu expect them to be fresh. Well, actually I expect them to always be fresh and they never are. McDonald fries are the worst!!! more

Good times? Great taste? These are not things that I would use to describe McDonalds. Try greasy, luke warm, and a waste of money (even if the hamburgers are only $.39). Good for those on the run? Maybe...if your a soccer mom with a minivan full of screaming, pre-pubescent middle school boys. But I still hold to the fact that McDonalds is the reason you can't seem to lose those extra 20 pounds. more
