THE MOST UNIQUE PET STORE THIS SIDE OF NYC 1/23/2011

Overpriced 4/23/2010

When I went into Maxwell Dog with my cousin who got a new puppy to get some unique items, the staff was helpful & knowledgeable in the over well health for the dog. When I mentioned to my cousin she didn't need to buy a particular item since I already had the same item at home she could have for free, the sales person stepped in and tried to down play the item I had and that she should have her own. On the flip side, they had specialty items and pamphlets that gave knowledge on dog health I didn't know about. All of the items they sell are organic and for the most part wheat free, but the prices are higher than if you were to buy that same item at Petco or PetSmart. I did end up leaving with a HUGE plush dog toy for my bulldog, even though it was kind of expensive....My dog is worth it! :) Pros: Informative Pamplets/Unique items Cons: Pushy Staff more

The Happiest Place on Earth for Dogs 2/11/2010

I have been shopping at Maxwell Dog for seven or so months now. I first went there two full months before my puppy arrived. The Staff held my hand as I went through all the nervouseness of getting a puppy and helped me get all the products I needed for his homecoming. Now that he is growing up, the Maxwell Staff provides CONSTANT support and guidance for me (its my frst dog). They adore my dog and greet him whenever we come through the front door--in fact, they do this for all their customers (knowing all their names and thier pets' names). The store itself has every type of toy, bed, clothes, accessories, traats, and food my (or any) dog could ever need. And the store is decorated like a doggy dreamworld. The staff is gracious, understanding, patient, extremely knowledgeable and a joy to be around. My dog LOVES going there. If you have a dog, or are getting one, you must go to this store. I'd be lost without it. Its on Venture Blvd, 3 blocks west of Laurel Cyn, on the south side. Pros: Amazing, loving, knolwedgable staff, the best toys, clothes, Cons: NOT ONE more

RUDE SALES PEOPLE 11/29/2009

I have been shopping here for sometime and usually had a fine experience. However on my most recent visit my dog happened to lift his leg and go to the bathroom. I offered to clean it up and was told no they would handle it. The saleslady could not have been more rude! She kept saying my dog ruined merchandise and he should wear a dog diaper when shopping there. I highly doubt this is the first dog to lift his leg in her precious store. I have spent hundreds of dollars at this store and will not be back. DO NOT GO HERE. THEY ARE RUDE more

Horrible! 9/17/2009

So I went to Maxwell Dog (12336 Ventura Blvd, Studio City) and had done my research on the product I intended to buy. Thus, I was able to walk right through the door and directly to the product. Unfortunately, one of their foreign and badly dressed sales reps came up to me and my dog. She continued to attempt to dissuade me from buying the most expensive dog food formula because, get this, it was expensive! I guess she didn't notice my Tom Ford glasses, but this woman was acting as though I could not afford the dog food. She continued to harass me for about 15 minutes and I ignored her for the most of it. In other words, she wanted me to sacrifice the health and well being of my dog because she thought I could not afford it. In short, Please do your research before you go, if you go at all. Otherwise, go dressed in Gucci in order to receive accurate product information from their sales reps. Pros: They most likely have what you are looking for. Cons: Everything else. more

Happy place for dogs to shop 9/6/2009

This puppy haven is ""da bomb"" or rather ""da bone"" for any pet lover. From loads of fancy collars for any pups personality, cute clothing for fashionable pooches, and tons of tasty treats to squeekies and toys, Maxwell Dog is a wonderful place to shop with your four legged friend. My dog looks forward every Sunday to taking a road trip to Maxwell Dog. Don't believe the person who keeps spamming the web with the attitude comments. The ladies of Maxwell Dog are very pet friendly and attitude in California usually comes from those who actually as sour pusses. Everyone has always been friendly and now that the adoption people are gone from in front of the store it is true heaven! :) As a side note, we had a new puppy that also loved MAXWELL DOG, unfortunately our puppy was a puppy mill dog and we lost her. But MAXWELL was loving to her when she came in to shop. Thank you maxwell dog for being so loving to your four paws family. Daisy loved you. Pros: there is always a treat to test at the counter Cons: it can get busy more

MAXWELL DOG - overpriced, salespeople really bad, overall Failed all expectations of a ""service"" business 2/1/2009

I went to Maxwell Dog when it first opened and was overwhelmed by how great it was. I went back to the expanded store recently and found it to be too overwhelming to navigate alone, the salespeople couldn't be bothered assisting the customers, and when I finally did get a salesperson to help me (I had to ask her for help) she sold me dog food that she said I culd also buy at Petco, WRONG. She was barely tolerable, misinformed, and pretty much annoying. When I returned to let them know that the dog food was NOT available at Petco, they couldn't care less. I will NEVER step foot in there again. I thought shopping at Petco was bad until I went to maxwell Dog. Poor Maxwell,... Pros: great merchandise, great appearance Cons: salespeople, knowledge of products,... more

Bad Service in my opinion...I might as well been invisible 10/22/2008

I went here very excited after all the good reviews....and was highly disappointed. I wasn't greeted when I came in and was ignored the whole time I was there. I thought ""maybe its not me...maybe they just don't want to be pushy sales people"". But nope, right after that though another woman walked in (a white woman) and they greeted her and went straight to helping her pick out a collar. While I wandered towards the door I heard one woman perk up and say hello... I turned around...and nope not for me. Another woman (also white) had walked in. I left without a word. Maybe it was a bad day...I don't know. But I will never go back. I am mixed by the way. Pros: Lots of great clothes and dog stuff. Great place to go if you are white. Cons: I was never helped more

great dog store 2/28/2008

This is in response to the not so great review posted recently. I love this store! The ""dark haired girl behind the counter"", as one reviewer calls her, who does have a name-Gillian- and I have a terrific rapport and she was most helpful with my recent purchases, as well as being interested in my saga of acquiring a new dog soon. The owner, Lynn, is also super and so friendly and personally interested in me. Their stock is beatiful and well displayed, and their selection is amazing. If there's something that you want and it's not there, they'll order it for you or make suggestions for alternate paths. It's a fun store to just go into and look around! I usually seek out all dog stores in new cities and this one is the best. The customer service is as good if not better than at many large stores-Petco, you know who you are!-and the fact that it's just a few miles from my home puts it over the top. I could live there, it's so comfortable and comforting. I can't wait to bring my new dog in there to choose some toys and biscuits. Remember, if you have a bad experience in a store, maybe it's YOU and your attitude. As far as I'm concerned, I'm telling everyone about this wonderful store. There are absolutely no negatives and I just hope they stay around for many years to come. more

love maxwell 11/25/2007

I shop for my dog a lot and this store has great stuff especially the dog beds. I have a few Jax and Bones beds and the selection here is abundant! i even ordered a special one which they did not have their. more

Not that special 8/22/2007

I went there and was really excitied and it tottaly let me down..The idea of the store is nice but they practically have no toys or unique chic gifts.Nothing really unique and not alot to choose from. more

Poor Customer Service 7/13/2007

Regarding customer service at Maxwell Dog, it's my opinion that ever since they moved to their larger facility, the hired sales personnel are terrible. Yes, they are friendly when you come in with your dog. However, when you have questions about items which are not priced, they never seem to have the answer or knowledge about the product. Pros: Great selection on collars/leads and dog toys and dog food Cons: Poor Customer Service more

Love Maxwell Dog 2/15/2005

It was such a pleasure shopoping at Maxwell Dog. I have never seen so much cute dog product in one store, they have the best selection I have ever seen of collars, leads, beds, toys, apparel, bags and yummie and clever treats for my dog. I plan on shopping at the store all the time. The sales staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and they encourage you to bring your dog when you come to visit. more

Maxwell Dog... a Necessary Experience 2/1/2005

I'm not even a dog owner, but my work atmosphere is flooded with them. I find myself visiting the store on behalf of my furry co-workers and every experience at Maxwell Dog is delightful. The staff is always warm and helpful and their service has never fallen from this standard. I was shocked to see negative comments about the staff and the store's prices. I have to strongly express that Maxwell Dog is a boutique that I would recommend to anyone and encourage all dog owners to experience this lovely nook located on Ventura Blvd. more

Maxwell Dog is the best! 1/27/2005

No doubt about it, we love Maxwell Dog! I have been to pretty much every dog boutique in the Los Angeles area but nothing beats Maxwell Dog. Every time we go, my dog gets so excited because they are so happy to see him. They love dogs and it shows, plus there is none of that lame, pretentious attitude I have experienced at other boutiques. I do look at dog stuff online, but Maxwells prices are so reasonable and seeing an item in person or trying something on makes it so worthwhile. Plus, they always have new and cool stuff - clothes, beds, toys, and simply the best selection of collars and leads anywhere. This is one dog store I cant stay away from. Everyone is super nice, always helpful, and their selection is wonderful. I have gone to Maxwell Dog since they opened and have loved it ever since. Pros: super staff, cool and fun stuff, reasonable prices Cons: parking sometimes more

Attitude in the Valley 4/7/2004

Though the selection of yummy things for your doggie (and the do they have on hand to greet you) to eat, play and sleep on is impressive, the attitude of the relatively new store is not. They started out super-friendly with an emphasis on superlative customer service, but have eased off, I guess as their popularity grew. On my last visit, the store clerk didn't even know what a Chuck It! was. more
