Romantic little spot, delicious food, from starters to entree. Great wine too, was a bit weary of going cause of some reviews but our experience was great. The waitress was young and not too attentive when it came to refilling wine. Other than that, we will return. Pros: ambiance, food Cons: waitress a lil aloof more

What a Messo! 5/4/2010

Masso? This place should change it's name to Messo because everything from the food to the service is garbage. My wife and I live in the neighborhood and drive by this place at night sometimes thinking hey it looks really cozy and romantic but it's always empty, whats the deal? So we decided to give it a shot and realized within 15 minutes why this place is so dead all the time.We got there around 9pm sat down I ordered a salad special which consisted of some spinach, apples, avocado and grilled shrimp...now you might be thinking mmmm that sounds good, well so did I until it came out 25 minutes later without the shrimp and avocado probably because the waitress failed to write down our simple order. Judging by her spacey demeanor it wasn't a surprise that she messed it up..she told me""keep eating and I'll bring out the shrimp and avocado"" by the time she brought the shrimp and avocado to the table 15 minutes later I had already finished my salad and at this point was so hungry rather than tell her to not bother I ate the burnt shrimp and mushy avocado which looked like it had been salvaged from the garbage. My wife who is 7 months pregnant ordered the most simple appetizer on the menu...fresh tomato and mozzarella...that also took 25 minutes to come out of the kitchen and was a disaster. Apparently after we asked her what was taking so long she answered ""wellllll we like ran out of tomatoes and we had to send the guy to the store""...mind you they finally served her mozzarella and flavorless BEEFSTEAK tomatoes. Not exactly the Caprese you would expect from any decent Italian restaurant. Up to this point we were extremely patient and were looking forward to eating our entrees which we thought might help to save the whole experience from being a complete disaster but our patience ran thin after having to wait another 35 minutes at which point we told the waitress to bag it and we would take it to go. I failed to mention that during this entire time we were the only two people dining in the place. I payed the $70 check left her a 15% tip and we were off to eat at home. When we arrived home 5 minutes later I opened up my salmon to find what looked like a kiddie sized portion about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide and completely burnt to a crisp. My wife's talapia was also an abomination. I was irate at this point and wanted to bring the food right back to them and give them an earful but my wife who is pregnant and starving was surprisingly a lot more calm then I was. She called up and politely informed our waitress who answered the phone that we were unhappy with the food and with the whole experience and would like a refund just on our entrees and not on the appetizers that we ate while we were there. The girl made up some lame excuse that she didn't have our credit card number after she had just charged it not more than 15 minutes ago. ...she came back with her best offer which was to send us new food..I mean, come on...after waiting 1 hour in the restaurant for our food which was horrendous did she really think that at 10:15 it was reasonable to have us wait god knows how long to have them deliver more food that would have probably tasted just as bad. Needless to say we went to bed starving but today being my wife's birthday I hope to make up for it tonight with a special dinner. I have to conclude by saying that I have never had to write a bad review about a place, usually if I'm not happy with a restaurant we just pay the bill and never go back again. Being a long time resident and local business owner in L.I.C I felt that it is important that people know not to go to this place given all the other restaurants in the neighborhood that are doing the right thing, serving good food and taking care of their customers which is essential for any restaurant to be successful. I wouldn't be surprised to see Masso out on its Asso in a few months. Enjoy a beautiful Italian dinner for the same price at Bella Via or Manetta's. Cons: everything more

Not worth 3.5 stars! 6/16/2009

My boyfriend and I just got back from eating at this place, and all we can say is that it was the worst dining experience we've had so far in Long Island City. We had to wait FOREVER for our main course. Our waitress came by and apologized for the wait, and told us it would just be a few minutes. She then finished her shift, and on her way out told us once again that our food would be out soon. That was 20 minutes after she told us the first time! To top it off, as we continued to wait, we did not get a SINGLE acknowledgement from the other waitresses that were standing around. To top it all off, when we finally got our food, both our dishes were well overcooked. I ordered a pasta with shrimp dish and my boyfriend ordered the skirt steak medium and got it WELL DONE (we're talking brown brown)! If it had not been so late already, he definitely would have sent it back. I was really annoyed by the whole experience, but my boyfriend was even more so. He's the type of guy that will tip well under almost any circumstance, we're talking minimum 18%. I've never seen him tip less than 15%. We did tonight. P.S. - I agree with the other reviewer that said not to believe in the 5 star reviews. There is no way this many people could have enjoyed eating at Masso. Cons: Everything more

Best in the Area 2/25/2009

I actually took the time to make an account to give Masso the recognition it deserves. The best appetizers and pizza! Thin crusted and delicious! Not to mention the entrees I've tried, the unbelievable chicken parm, the delicious hamburger on an english muffin, the skirt steak, and the fish! All excellent and wellpriced. \r \r The service was immaculate. They were nice waitresses who talked to me as a friend, offered advice on the menu, and the wine list. The owner, a woman who was helping sit, was friendly to all tables who requested her as far as I could see, I was sure to thank her the first time and every time I've been since. The place itself is cozy for a date, and a nice bar for a drink with friends. Any big game is usually on, or good modern instrumental that fits the style. \r \r I absolutely recommend for all in or coming to NYC!! Pros: Food, Service, Style Cons: Size more

If only... 2/13/2009

If only the owner dedicated as much time to recreating the dining experience as he does spending time leaving bogus reviews, I might be leaving a positive review, unfortunately that isn't the case. \r \r The service: Incredible, in how awful it was. I find the previous wine pouring review delightful, we didn't even get poured when the wine was delivered, we were poured a tasting, and she walked away.\r \r The food: Terrible, unless, maybe, you were a penguin, as in the one played by Danny De Vito, not the Happy Feet kind. It was the worst lobster ever, it was so briney, I might as well have bitten into a live lobster. \r \r Ambiance: Great...if it were 1998 and everyone were up for raving. Too bad I left my glo-sticks in my triple fat goose coat. \r The decor wasn't bad, but the music made me seize. \r \r Dinner for 2: $100+, the biggest loss wasn't the money, but the disappointment in their lack of caring. I saw several tables, including my own, bring issues up, which the servers brought to a blase owner/manager, which noticeably gestured off, not once visiting any of the complaining tables. \r \r Our first time cautioning against any restaurant, but caution with this one. Masso, NOTSO! Pros: easy to get a table, later found out why Cons: food, wine, service, music, owner more

Looks are deceiving 2/6/2009

This place really shouldn't be called a restaurant, because after eating there 5 times I have concluded that they actively dislike all things associated with that word: food, service, value, flavor, selection. I give this place a chance every couple months or so to see if they have improved their game, but every time is a thoroughly unpleasant debacle. The food is consistently uninspired and careless, the drink selection is pathetic, and the service is nonexistent. The only meals I can remember was a vat of gnocchi with Prego that I could barely touch and a charred dry pile of ground beef that came out when I ordered a medium rare burger. The place is beautifully decorated, but don't be fooled into eating here. more

wow 12/24/2008

i came here last night and the service was GREAT! friendly waitress, always filling up our glasses and talking and having a good time with us. family is visiting us here in new york and they felt very welcomed by our servers.BUT i'm assuming it was the owner sitting at the bar, typing away on his cellphone and watching basketball, he never came over to see how we were doing, barely even acknowledged us, if even. so thanks for the real new york attitude, i would only go back for the service and drinks not the food or atmosphere. watching college basketball while i'm trying to catch up with friends isn't my idea of cozy. Pros: service, atmosphere without the tv on Cons: prices, amex only more

Perfect Gathering Place! 12/18/2008

A group of friends and I wanted to get together for the holidays and Masso was recommended by a friend, so we decided to give it a try. Man, were we happy that we did so. The place is more than comfortable with a working fire place and it was perfectly decorated for the holidays. When we were seated, the service was great! We ordered everything from salads to the special of the day and we were MORE than happy with EVERY dish. Of course we had to end with dessert, which did anything but disappoint. The owner actually came out to make sure everything was OK, which was a really nice perk. Thanks for making this holiday gathering one we won't forget! We will definately be back! Pros: Ambiance, Food, Cons: Nada! more

Such a SHAME 12/16/2008

Such a beautiful and elegant establishment. The tin ceilings, roaring fire place, decent wine list.. The only problem is the horrendous food and service. My husband and I, are appalled at the rude waitress last Friday night, not to mention the awful entrees. As we were getting ready to leave, the ""RUDE' waitress tells us, that they only take amex!!!!!! So now we had to walk a few blocks to find an atm, when they have an atm in the restroom, that wasn't working!! Not our best dining experience in Queens! more

great pizza and the best chicken parm I've ever had. Great atmosphere indoors and out. Friendly service and priced right. The brownie ala mode dessert tops off all the delicious entrees. 12/16/2008

The entrees I and my friends have had have been delicious. The appetizers are great. The thin crust pizza is the best I've ever tasted. Top it all off with a brownie ala mode - Unbelievably delicious. Good atmosphere, friendly service and also great for brunch or lunch - the panini's are the best in NY. Outdoor service in good weather is also a treat. I love the place. more

bad, bad,bad 11/29/2008

YUCK! There is NOBODY ever in this place! I dont trust the food! I live in the neighborhood and there IS NO business here! They made us walk three blocks in the dark to find an ATM machine. They only take cash and amex. They have an ATM in the restroom, that apparently never works, according to the waitress! NICE. I have heard the same thing from other friends. food is messy and of poor quality. Dont waist your time or money. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Not good at all 11/20/2008

I went to masso for dinner the other night and It was terrible. Not only was the server rude, she smelled like cigarettes. When we finally got the food, it wasn't good at all. It was all thrown together on the plate. LIC, is such a hip area, you would think these people would want to do better. I did get a chance to met the owner. He seemed like a yound guy only looking to make a quick buck. If you are looking for a good meal in LIC go to tornasol. You will always get amazing food with out the smell of collage kid and a side of cigarette.. Pros: fire place Cons: bad food bad service more

Best brunch in town!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/1/2008

I eat here almost every weekend with my husband for a reason, actually, many reasons: The brunch here is AMAZING (especially the green eggs and ham) the prices are reasonable, and the service is always great. Yes, sometimes the food is slow in coming out, but, hey, it is made to order and in my opinion, worth the wait..you get what you pay for...they play great music (sometimes alittle loud,we have a baby) and the place is really cozy , especially in winter with the fireplace. They also have fruit infused mimosas and really great bloody Marys. We love this place and reccommend it to all our friends in and out of the neighborhood for brunch. We have never been here for dinner or lunch but highly reccommend brunch!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great prices, good food more

All around terrible 6/22/2008

We waited for our food for 2 hours. The service was terrible- almost rude and we had to ASK for some bread to hold us over for the 2 hours while we sat and waited. When the food finally came out it was awful. charred and burned shrimp, chewy french toast, bland omlettes- just awful. Then they seemed shocked when we wanted to speak to a manager. We are very easy going- we can handle slow horrible service (lived in williamsburg for a year) but this was beyond anything I've ever experienced. more

Avoid at all costs 5/11/2008

The food was bland and nothing special, and the service was absolutely terrible. There is nothing like having dinner with friends and feeling frustrated with horrendous service throughout the meal. There are far better places to eat in the neighborhood so I wouldn't waste my energy again. more

The Worst in LIC 4/16/2008

With so much going on in LIC right now you would think everyone would try to step up their game. Not so here. This is one of the pitiful underachieving establshments that tend to cause critics and diners alike to rate Queens bars and restaurants on a ""Queens-curve"". As in, it's a good place to eat...y'know...for Queens."" Even with so-called curve there is very little to recommend other than the lovely glass of Rose I ordered. Unimaginative dishes, undercooked calamari, overcooked steak, watery soup, poor presentation and indifferent almost robotic service. As for atmosphere...well, I didn't see any. more

Great Food, Cozy Atmosphere 1/30/2008

If you want to go somewhere different, relax and not get rushed out the door, then go to Masso. It's a great place to go and sit by the fireplace while you eat and drink! The service is great. The prices are right. The food is fantastic. I also highly recomend the brunch. You can't go wrong with this place if you are on a date, alone, or with a group! Pros: Food, atmosphere, fireplace! more

The place to be!!! 1/29/2008

My friends and I met up there last week for drinks. We had no intention of eating there since we had reservations in Manhattan for dinner. We were so comfortable we lost track of time, missed our reservation and wound up eating and drinking at Masso for about 4 hours. The entire evening was delightful and our guest from out of town was beside herself at what a nice place it was and couldn't wait to come back... Pros: Unforgettable ambience, food , service Cons: 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

You're gonna Love It!! 1/29/2008

This place is definately on the rise.. Soon you will not be able to get in the door. The food, the ambiance and the service are incredible. To our surprise we usually freguent the place on the weekends at night, however, we tried brunch there on a Saturday a few weeks ago and have beeb back every weekend since. Pros: Food, Service, ambience like no other Cons: none, this place has it all more

Worst Meal Ever 10/17/2007

My girlfriends and I were stumble upon this restaurant. The atmosphere pleasant and cozy. We ordered calamari for appetizer and for entrees a grilled salmon, salmon special, and the ribeye steak. All these dishes were drenched in sea salt. It was completely inedible. We had one bite of each plate and just wanted to leave. Our lips were dried and chapped from all that salt. \r \r Come here for drinks, but forget about the food. Pros: atmosphere and drinks Cons: food, food, food more
