Wonderful Italian Food 11/4/2010

Last week an old friend was back in town and wanted to get together with me for dinner. He had gone to Fordham Univ. so he suggested that we meet at Mario's on Arthur Avenue. I am so glad he did!! What a great meal we had together. I knew it was going to be good when we started off with the fried calamari appetizer.....tasty, tender...cooked to perfection. Then I had the Veal a la Pizzaiola and he had the Chicken a la Cacciatore. I don't order veal very often but this was really special...everything prepared just right. We finished off our meal with a cappacino and tiramisu. It was one of the best Italian meals I have ever had. The wait staff was prompt with our order and very gracious to us throughout our meal. more

A great meal, great service and at a great price 10/27/2010

Today my wife and I took a trip up to the Bronx and parked on Arthur Avenue. As we walked along the street we spotted Mario's restaurant. We were immediately greeted at the door and escorted to our seats. To sum up our experience: the service, quality of the food, and price were all great. We picked our food from the luncheon menu which was both plentiful and delicious . The atmosphere of the restaurant could best be described as relaxing. We left for our trip home feeling satisfied in our stomachs and our souls. Thank you Mario's restaurant for a job well done. more

Always Assured of a Fantastic Meal 10/24/2010

A trip to Arthur Avenue is always special and dining at Mario's Restaurant is the icing on the cake. I was born and grew up in that neighborhood and I've known Mario's all my life. It never disappoints. The food is the most authentic Italian food I know - just like my mother used to make. I don't think I could give it a better recommendation than that. My husband and my sons and their families are also big fans of Mario's and love to spend Christmas Eve there having their traditional fish dishes that they all look forward to. When you eat at Mario's you feel like family. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the service is supurb. Some of the dishs that we especially love is their pizza, shrimp oreganato, veal sorrentino, zuppa di peche and clams oreganato. Their fish is always fresh and flavorful and the carots they put on your table (complimentary) are delicious-especially with that wonderful Arthur Avenue bread. I have to drive about 45 minutes to get to Mario's now but we feel that it is so worth it! more

Blendie makes it worth the trip! 10/21/2010

Everytime my wife and I go to Arthur Ave. we go to Mario's. Even if we decide to ""try"" another restaurant we stop at Mario's for dessert. The food is always great and the menu is so extensive it would be impossible to try everything in a lifetime. We have been to all many of the places in the city including La Mella's and Angelo's and Mario's out shines them all. Rather than write about the food - which you will see for yourself when you go I would rather comment on the service. All of the staff is great and greet you with a warm invitation to feel at home with a genuine desire to make you happy. If you are lucky enough - or ask by name - to have Blendie take care of you then your experience will be over the top. Blendie remembers you from the last time and looks after you as if you were related to him. So enjoy your visit to the Belmont area and don't hesitate to stop in to Mario's for a great time. They have valet parking which comes in handy and like I said - Blendie makes it worth the trip. Mike Z. more

AWFUL DUMP -- Instead of being full of pasta, I am full of regret 1/18/2008

Three friends and I had dinner at Mario's on Friday January 18, 2008. We had the appetizers for four, the veal chop, shrimp oreganata, sausage and peppers, and zuppa de peche. How shallI put this? Terrible food. Terrible wine. Terrible service. Terrible headache. Terrible stomach ache. Eat at Mario's AT YOUR PERIL. It's awful. Pros: Since I paid by credit card, I may be able to challenge the charge. Cons: It costs $80 in round trip taxi fare from Manhattan more

Gourment comfort food, fabulous service 10/25/2007

This was the best meal we have had in New York, including dinner at Babbo which was 3 times the cost. We had to wait a few minutes on a Sunday evening to get a table but it was more than worth the wait. I had the veal scallopini and my wife had the linguini volonge. Both were superb, as good as any I have had anywhere. The veal was in a marsalla wine sauce that I am salivating at the thought of as I write this 5 days latter. The linguini was full of clams and savoury. For dessert we had the tiramisu and canelli both of which are made fresh onsite. They were absolutely dreamy. I would not hesitate to make the trip from Manhatten for dinner again. The service was excellent. We asked the waiter to call a taxi after dinner and he actually accompanied us out to the street to wait for it to ensure we were picked up and the driver had the proper instructions. What more can I say. more

A wonderfule experience. 10/6/2007

I can't remember the number of times I've been to Mario's. I've never been disappointed. The service is excellent, the food is equally wonderful. Fresh ingredients, prepared for ""you"", so don't expect fast food. Presentation is artful, and the portions are large. We've allowed the waiter to order for us a number of times and have never gone wrong. Great desserts, and an atmosphere that allows you to really enjoy the evening. Pros: Great food at a fair price. Family run. One of my favorite NY eateries. Valet parking/ more

Superb Meal and Service 7/1/2007

My husband and I wanted to dine at a restaurant in the Bronx for a Birthday celebration. We wanted to be close to home because it was a week night, Thursday. We were surprised to see that poeple come from all over the Tri-State to dine in ""Little Italy"" of the Bronx, NY. We chose Mario's after looking into the place from the street, because of the ""ambience."" We eat out often and are quite good at making restaurant choices. Pros: Thumbs up, parking, great service, reasonably priced more

Almost worth the trip 9/30/2006

My husband and I ate at Mario's this past Friday. Both of us being Italian and my being (so I've been told) an amazing cook, I was really excited to eat there due to all the rave reviews and hype surrounding the place. Our waiter was really great, and we had impressive service. We ordered the braciola after our waiter promised it would be the best we'd ever had. Apparently we were there too early for it to be the best, as it was way too tough and obviously hadn't cooked in the sauce long enough-braciola should fall apart when you cut it. I was disappointed since the hot and cold antipasto were really great, and the sauce for the braciola was pretty terrific. Next time guys, please don't sell your food before it's ready! more
