Marie Bove Salon

I have been looking for years for a good colorist and I have found her, her name is Pauline Messina. And She works at Marie Bove Salon. She is a master colorist and an educator for WELLA Professional. She's amazing and sweet of apple pie. She is my co-workers hair stylist. Emily's hair always looks amazing, so after my last hair disaster at a well known salon I decided to give this person a try. She was so patient with me. I am crazy and I change my mind with any choice that I make. She had a before and after book she showed me of her work, and had pictures of hair color,not a swatch book like the others show. We co picked a color that fit my life style and wardrobe. I have never had ANYONE Ever do the things she did. EVER! I felt like a Kardashian after she was done. I started coming to see Ana exactly 1 year ago. I wish I had a picture of my hair then because the ""then"" and ""now"" pictures would really do Ana's work justice. She is amazing and I thank her for bringing my hair back to life! I have blonde hair and have been coloring it for years. I couldn't find a hair colorist that was working and the last straw was pulled when a fancy hair salon fried and bleeched my hair. It was falling out, frail and thin -- so disgusting. I needed hair help and Ana was there to help treat my hair, make it blonde and keep it healthy. Ana is great and I would sell her to anyone ( I do!). more

Just got a fabulous Japanese straightening from Anna at Marie Bove. Anna rocks. She is professional, felxible, reasonably priced and a total perfectionist. Plus, she only uses the highest quality products. more

I'd been searching for affordable feather hair extensions for over 3 months and finally heard about the ""Plume"" service at Marie Bove. Getting an appointment was easy and they had the best variety of colors and lengths. They also charge less than the other salons uptown. Love Love Love my new feathers! more

I came there with many hair issues. My hair was thin and dry and long and completely lifeless. Marina who was highly recommended , made me over. I walked out like a gorgeous princess. I looked like I had a ton of hair. The way she cut it and colored it without damaging it , was amazing. I don't know about anyone else there, but Marina ROCKS HAIR!!!!!!! She can handle the worst of the situations. The best colorist by far and the most experienced. If you have hair issues , try Marina. more

I went to Marie Bove to see Ana for a cut and a color. The salon is pretty at first but a bit shabby if you look closer. I was also surprised that the average age of the clientele is probably in the 50s so it might not be the best choice for a young person (I am closer to middle age than I care to admit so this is mostly a comment for others). As for my experience, the cut turned out quite nice but the color was a total disappointment. Less than 12 hours after the cut I had to wash my hair because it was already getting grimy from whatever was left in my hair. So much for the pretty blow out. I felt a lot of clumping of color around the roots when I was combing my hair after the shower and ended up having to rewash my hair to get out the chunks of product. Unfortunately the demi-color which is supposed to last 25 washes was completely gone in 2, leaving me more than $200 poorer and all my grays still there. Maybe my expectations were just too high but I would hope to have somewhat longer results. more

Ana is a beauty lifesaver! I first had the pleasure of being styled by Ana when I came to her with THE worst bang cut ever (done by somebody else). Don't even get me started on that nightmare. But Ana was the happy ending to that story because she was able to fix my bangs and then advised me on a haircut that would flatter my head and face (she's obviously very educated and skilled in her trade); she even gave me a little trim all around. I loved that little trim - it made a huge difference and I got tons of compliments! I had to return to her for a haircut again, and again and again. I also sent a bunch of my friends to Ana and they all loved her as well! She really cares about what makes the client looks best and I trust her completely. Which is why I came to her to fix my awful dye job! After being told by another salon that stripping my color would break my hair, I didn't know what to do. Ana was able to correct my color and gave me a beauitful new look with INOA coloring. INOA is ammonia-free and it really is the best stuff out there. Our hair takes enough beatings with the daily blow drying, straightening, hair spray, etc. but with INOA hair coloring by Ana, you don't have to damage your hair anymore. If you want a personable, caring, and kind hair stylist and colorist, Ana is the best there is. I wouldn't trust my locks to anyone else. more

Anna is the ""Queen"" of the keratin treatments. It was quick, chemical free and the results are the best I have ever had and I have had four. My hair is easy to style and looks like I walked out of the salon which is a miracle for me! This salon is a find in NYC for sure. more

Ana really knows what she is doing, I walked in to Marie Bove not exactly knowing what I wanted and she took the time to evaluate my hair. As she was cutting and coloring it she gave me tips on special ways to wash my hair and products to use (never pressuring me to buy anything). I walked out happier than I ever have from a salon! I am very impressed with my entire experience at Marie Bove Salon. Ana gave me a great haircut, highlight, and an exceptional blowout. My hair looks absolutely beautiful and Ana was such a pleasure. She was very friendly and did not try to push me into purchasing products or extra services, which most hair stylists do these days. I will definitely go back and recommend Marie Bove to friends and family. more

Ana Acevedo has been cutting my hair for years (I followed her from her previous place of employment to Marie Bove) and I never want ANYONE ELSE to touch my hair. She is warm and friendly and very good company. But, most importantly, she really knows how to give a great haircut and -- particularly, in my case -- how to cut very straight hair. I always walk out of the salon feeling and looking great and the compliments start coming immediately. After I last saw saw Ana, a total stranger in an elevator turned to me and said ""Your haircut is SO NICE!"" Yes it is, all because of Ana! more

I got my haircut by Handri and it is by far best I?ve ever gotten! My hair hasn?t ever looked better. He treats your hair with care and gives it the attention it deserves! He gives great consultation on hair styles. My hair looks fuller, healthier and shinier. I would definitely recommend Handri. more

I had my hair cut by Handri Gunawan~ He took time to meet with me PRIOR to getting my hair washed. That is so important bc I showed him how I normally wear my hair and what I liked and didn't like and more importantly, what I wanted. I brought pictures with me, but he was so perceptive he already knew~ The wash was amazing and relaxing~ Thanks Jasmin~ :) The salon itself was so quaint - love that! Not a factory with many people buzzing in and out. Marie Bove was there on site cutting her client's hair (next time I will introduce myself~ Merry Christmas Marie) I felt special and not rushed bc Handri spent the needed time to cut my hair and focus on me and only me. The hard wood floors are very homey and made me more at ease~ The music playing was perfect. Not too loud, but just right~ :) When Handri finished my hair I felt and looked like a new woman - in a Great way~ It was perfect! The blow out and even more so, the cut! He kept my length as I asked him to - thank you~ (always a concern of mine when I go somewhere new) I am completely happy! :) I went to dinner after my cut where people raved about my hair~ I'm sending them all your way Handri~ I highly recommend Marie Bove Salon~ Great experience and even better cut! I adore going to Peter at Marie Bove, Peter is so charming and attentive. He always does the right thing by me: he really analyzes my hair every time I go, and assesses what should be done. He keeps in mind the time of year we're in, trips I am taking (will it oxidize in the pool?), type of shampoo I'm using, steers me away from crazy impractical ideas. I don;t usually write these things but i came online the other day looking for the phone number and saw the hateful and totally untrue review of Peter at Marie Bove. I have been coming to the salon for the last few years and have never had a bad experience. The salon is friendly and reasonably priced and Peter is a genius at color and cut - all my friends and family come to see him now. Peter is great with helping you choose the right color and a fantastic at making sure your hair looks healthy and great. i get compliments all the time. In case there was any doubt from the other reviews - ignore 'starr's' bad review - she clearly has no idea! Pros: best colour and cuts in NYC - ESPECIALLY PETER Cons: none - love it more

I never write reviews or give these reviews credence because they're typically written by friends doing favors or people attempting to injure. That said....I was shocked as I'm sure the majority of his clients will be to read the previous writers review of Peter. He is a talented Stylist with boh women and men's hair and no one else touches mine or my husbands hair. I'm not sure how old the writer is but she must be 12 if she consider 30 something to be old. Shannon Arell of Marie Bove gave me a great cut the first time i walked in the door. I told her I wanted something fun and new. Suddenly, my traditional bob became a bunch of layers and bangs. I was a little bit shocked at first but then I left the salon. Everyone complimented me on my new look! And I paid less than I usually pay for a haircut in the city (after 15 years of searching). thank you Shannon! Try her out for yourself!
