RUN AWAY!!! 2/21/2011

Worst experience imaginable at a vet. I was livid after I had a sweet kitty of mine spayed...The price was astronomical, and I couldn't believe the poor customer service to boot. Can't believe this place is still in business. I wanted to report them to the Better Business Bureau...but this will do. RUN AWAY! more

Lets talk about money. 11/30/2010

I took my very sick kitten there because it was the only place open for walk-in appointments. The nurse was extremely nice and answered all my questions but when the doctor came in to examine her all she said was she is really sick and left the room. The nurse came back in with a sheet of paper telling me how much all the test were going to cost. They did not seem to care about anything but the cost. When I said I could pay for all of it they rushed out of the room and came back with a new "cheaper" plan. This was still presented by a nurse. When I would ask questions about what the test would do the nurse would say hold on let me ask. They gave my kitten fluids and sent her home... No medication at all. (That would have been what I would have paid for) My kitten ended up passing away the following day. I would not recommend taking your pet here. more

Wow....what amazes me is the number of idiots here complaining about the price. Have any of you stopped to take into consideration what factors typically make medical care more expensive? the hours, convienience, and professionalism are just a few of the factors. How about the quality of care. Im going to force you to do a little research now that youve done all this complaining. What hospital in northern california has several vet techs that receive national awards yearly for being the best in thier field? What hospital not only has the one of the highest praised internal medicine vet doctors in the area, but also doctors that come in and check on thier patients throughout the night to ensure theyre safe and comfortable? What hospital has board certified surgeons fly in from other areas of the county when they know a case has presented itself that would benefit from one of these specialist? Youre complaining about it. You want to save a few bucks, treat your dog with a 2X4. more

At least double the cost of your normal vet 9/23/2010

Holy crap is this place expensive. Had a new puppy with parvo and this was the only place that I could find that took walk ins. $1600 later for two days in the hospital. Called around and the average price for two days of parvo treatment was $800. I can understand like 20% higher for taking walk ins and being open late for the convienence but double!!!!! Wish I would have shopped around but when you got a sick do you don't really have a choice and people can take advantage of you. \r However they were extremely helpful and friendly. The doctor that helped us really cared for the pets she took care of. more

NO NO NO NO - RUN AWAY!!!! 2/8/2010

I don't know who owns this place, or if they are weirdos or what. All I know is that every time I go there they never have any idea what is going on. They make you wait forEVER! Everything is insanely expensive. Seriously... insanely expensive. \r The staff is very nice, they offer coffee and cookies.... but this does not make the price or the poor diagnoses acceptable. It is really cool that they take walk-ins, also nice they stay open so late... again the staff is real friendly.... but honestly I am done with them. I highly suggest looking around Chico, always get a second opinion and for me at least I will NEVER be a regular at this place again, Maybe in an emergency, but other than that I feel this place needs to seriously look at the way they do business and make some better choices and whoever sets the prices needs to see a "Vet" of their own.\r \r "Just because I love my dog doesn't mean I'm a sucker."\r \r -angry dog owner more

Knowledgable and Friendly 1/8/2010

I am amazed at some of the poor comments that Mangrove has recieved! First, Mangrove was NEVER owned by bad people. This is a wonderful, caring, top of the line veterinarian hospital. more

Convenient, friendly, trustworthy 12/30/2009

Mangrove may not be the place to look for a bargain, but I continue to take my animals there because I have always found the staff to be extremely kind and thorough, and it is so convenient to be able to walk in -- and on weekends to boot. more

Little Help for A lot of Money 12/5/2009

I have had nothing but trouble with Mangrove Vet. First off, I went to them first to get my female dog fixed and they wanted over $300 to do it! I called every single other vet in town to see how unreasonable this was, and the highest cost I got from all the others was about $150. Needless to say, I did not use their services. But then recently, my dogs regular Vet was closed for the holidays, so I had to use them again. My dog ended up costing in the neighborhood of $500, and was on four different medications. A few days later, my dog was getting worse, and I was beginning to see new symptoms. Thinking he was having an allergic reaction, I took him back in. The doctor told me that his new stuff must be whatever was originally wrong with him and that his problems were not an allergic reaction. When I took him back in again for our regularly scheduled appt 2 days later, my dog had gotten even worse. The doctors at Mangrove wanted to do a blood test ($120) and a biopsy (at least $500 she more

I dont know what to make of Mangrove... 2/20/2009

.for a while they were owned by a couple who had drug problems ( true!) now the place is run by a bunch who charge a fortune and the tests which are so expensive show them nothing! I took two dogs in for tests - one was very sick - they found nothing wrong and she died a week later, the second they found nothing at all but my total bill was almost a $1000 in tests. Use your own judgement - they are open late in an emergency so maybe that would be Ok.\r I dont trust them - it seems to be all about the money! more

Care of Animals 1/18/2008

I have to say that when my regular vet could not see my pet for two weeks. I called around only Mangrove was able to see my very sick pet that same day. Matter of fact they told me to come right down. I have to admit there was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. As well as saving my best friends life they were very understanding to my feelings. My dog is better and back to himself. THANK you to the staff and Doctors that took care of my boy. more

Back Away FAST! 11/20/2007

I have worked with a vet in my hometown since i was 5, and moved to chico for college, so i was very picky looking for a local vet. Mangrove puts people on hold for NO REASON! i have stood in their office and watched as they put people on hold and tand and chatter, and they charged me to take a urine sample from my dog by syringe, instead of using the urine when she peed from nervousness. and they were idiots with minor tests that drove myself and my home vet up the wall because they couldnt manage to send a fax. i have never even met the vet that saw my dog. i had to wait in the lobby. i know how a vet office should operate from experience, and this place should cease to operate, period. more

Customer Service 10/5/2007

My husband and I started going to Mangrove Vet Hospital because our current vet merged with this institution. I have nothing nice to say about them - they answer the phone and ask if it's an emergency - if you say no, they put you on hold . . . eternally. I took my newly adopted kitten to them for vaccinations and paid for the kitty pack at $203. She was old enough to have already missed the first exam but I still had to pay the full price. She did come down ill, they examined her one day and she died the next. They will not refund any of the money. We have 3 others pets that use regular vet care - so we're not talking only once in a while visits. I speak from experience. more
