Editorial review from Citysearch 8/28/2012

Had an order of the Minestrone Soup bowl (~$5): carrots, zucchini, squash, chard, potatoes and pinto beans. Also had an order of the Lasagna Primavera (~$11): spinach pasta stuffed with mushrooms and mozzarella, parmigiano, & ricotta cheeses. Additionally, had an order of The Sicilian pizza w/pesto sauce(~$25): sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, red onions, and feta cheese. Food was delicious, staff was slow, and the ambiance was airy (outdoor patio). more

Terrible Management 8/1/2009

The food is subpar and the owner is a short, incompetent balding man with little sense of running a successful business- which would explain why this place is always empty. Must have short man complex or something at his staggering height of 5'5. But for a more detailed review about the food. The ""house"" wines are la terre, which sell for about $20 a bottle. But you can go down to TARGET and buy it for about $7. There's the quality of Mangia for you. The salads are about $10 and consist of 90% lettuce. Literally. Caeser - Lettuce, cheese, dressing, 5-6 croutons House salad- Lettuce, 1 scoop of canned beans and one slice of tomato Spinach salad- Spinach, couple sprinkles of red onion, couple walnuts and cheese Notice that each salad has literally 3 ingredients. Is this a $10 value to you? Order one yourself. I ordered a side of broccoli. But mangia doesn't have broccoli. I then settled with a side of vegtables. This was a $5 side of heavily oiled zucchini. Thanks. Half the menu also isn't updated. There are many things that are no longer served at Mangia, such as the Coppa Mista gelato dessert. The restaurant is always filled with screaming kids. People bring their kids here instead of other restaurants because there is never anyone there to be bothered. The salad makers and the host consist of a team of high school girls that wear inappropriately short shorts to work. Not only tacky, but possibly a health code violation. The ogar at the front is usually checking them out. He sits in the front with his Ipod in and ignores customers. he watches TV most of the time when he isn't grunting at you. The only manager I've ever seen to actually argue with customers about things such as a $1 off coupon (actually witnessed). He's also been seen to be drinking the restaurants beer during his shift. Real professional. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Not worth it. Don't believe my review? Try it out for yourself. Pros: Never crowded. Cons: Everything more

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE 9/25/2007

I placed an order over the phone and the owner didn't allow us to use our coupon. I gave him back his pizza and walked out. Even though I said ""I'd never return"" and that I'm a frequent customer, he said ""he didn't care"". Don't go - the food isn't all that great. more

This place is one you must try! Pizza is perfect! 8/25/2007

This place is fantastic! The pizza is always perfect. I've had pizza from the East Coast, Italy and all over California and this place is perfect for the best all around pizza. The crust is just right-not too thick-not too thin-sauce has a great flavor and the toppings are always fresh. Nothing too fancy or too simple, the pizza everyone can enjoy. We tell all our friends and I'm excited to write this to let others know about this spot. It's kid friendly, two flat screens in case there's a sports game on that my husband doesn't want to miss and our drinks are always refilled quick. The staff is always friendly and fast. There is a patio to sit out on and a Starbuck's and Peets for a coffee afterwards. I've been going to this place over five years. I drive 15-20 minutes to get there on average down 680. If you have the time drive there and check it out plus downtown Lafayette is a wonderful place to walk and enjoy with the family or as a couples night out. Pros: Perfect Pizza! Bring the kids or watch the game! Cons: Only one in Lafayette. more
