One of the best soul food resturants in town 3/8/2009

I have eaten at the Montgomery locations several times and the food is excellent. The staff was always pleasant, polite and attentive. Compared to Mr. & Mrs. G's the food is expensive, but I also had to consider the location and the overhead costs. Pros: great food and quick good service Cons: a little too expensive for lunch. Need lunch specials more

Very Bad Service 3/6/2009

Wow, what a disappointment. This was my 5th visit to Mama Lee's the Montgomery Road location the food was good but the attitude of our server was so bad. There were 4 in our party when the food was served all plates were missing the cornbread (one of our favorites) we ask 3 times for the missing cornbread. The first 2 times we were just ignored the third time were told they were out of cornbread & it would be 15 minutes before it was ready. That would have been acceptable if every plate that was delivered to the tables around us had cornbread on their plate?????? Before we were through with our meal 2 more of our coworkers showed up & sat down at our table, placed their order and sure enough when their food came guess what.....they had cornbread????? So we asked again. As we were getting up to leave here they came with a plate of cornbread. Oh and did I mention what our waitress said ""I'm not the cook I don't know where the cornbread is"" that remark was uncalled for & rude, we know she wasn't the cook did she think we were stupid? I will not be returning to this eating establishment in the future no matter how good the food is. more

Overpriced & not worth it! 2/23/2009

I was just at Mama Lee's today for lunch and was extremely disappointed. This was not my first time there. It was my 4th time in the past 2 months and this was the first time I was disappointed in my food but it will be the last time I visit this restaurant...especially after reading the other negative reviews. The guy at the cash register can be rude and seems extremely stingy. I picked up a to go order for myself and 2 other co-workers. When I got the food back to work and we started eating all of our mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese were wayyyy toooo salty. It tasted like someone accidentally dropped a salt shaker in it. It was so gross. The mashed pototoes were also runny and didn't seem home cooked as they are claimed to be. Our fried chicken tasted okay but was very dry. One of my coworkers took a bite of his peach cobbler and ended up spitting it out b/c it tasted like straight sugar. I didn't believe him so I tasted it and I ended up spitting it out too. I ordered a piece of sweet potatoe pie that tasted like straight sugar too. Again, this was the first out of four times that I've had bad food but not the first time I've witnessed bad service. I also saw a sign in there today that the waitresses work for tips only. Is that legal and is it legal to add 18 gratuity to your bill? I didn't know that until I read one of the other posts. I was wondering why my bill today was almost $12.00 and I ordered the fried chicken and piece of sweet potatoe pie. That's a little rediculous for lunch. After reading the post about the owner swearing at a military member I will never go back there again. I am in the Air Force stationed at Lackland and everytime I go in there the entire place is filled with nothing but Air Force personnel from Lackland. To treat a member of the Armed Forces whom you get the majority of your business from is uncalled for and unprofessional. I was so pleased at first but am now disgusted and will never go back. Pros: Sometimes the food is good Cons: Overpriced & Shady more

Absolutely the best Service and food 2/14/2009

I have one to the restaraunt off of Walzem twice and each time the owners were pleaseant. They made sure the customers were happy. I had two different waiters and each time they were extremely nice makin sure everything was good. The food IS AWESOME!!! Nothing out of the can and the portions are huge I always have to take some home. never fails. I recommend this restaraunt. The other two reviews seem as if they may be the owners of Mr & Mrs G's. Kinda thoght that was odd. Ask the customers that leave Mama lee's they will tell you, Pros: The service everyone was polite and they always ask how was your food. more

Decent Food...Unprofessional Owner 2/10/2009

I was present on Friday, 6 February and observed what ""jgnylander"" encountered. I have been with the US Air Force for 16+ years and been in and around San Antonio for about 6 of those years (currently stationed at Lackland AFB). I have been to a lot of dining establishments and never in all my years have I witnessed such unprofessional behavior. This establishment is supposed to be Christian and boasts blessed Soul Food. What a contradiciton! What makes it worse, the owner is prior military which is quite upsetting to me. I have been to Mama Lee's in the past and the food was always pretty decent, but this behavior is unexcusable. I will never again frequent this establishment nor would I recommend it to anyone else. If you want great down home Soul Food where the people (owners) are real and professional try out Mr. and Mrs. G's at 2222 S WW White Rd. Pros: The food is decent and the wait staff seemed ok. Cons: The Owner...enough said. more
