Still as good as ever... 6/26/2002

Where are these bad reviews coming from? The food is the same quality it has been for years...I know, I've been a regular for 16 years. I took some very Southern friends there just a few weeks ago and everyone enjoyed the food tremendously, AND commented on how it tasted just like, ""their grandmother's cooking."" The prices are a *bit* higher than I think they should be, but that has been the case since I first started eating there...and it hasn't kept me away yet! Pros: Tasty Food, Authentic Southern, Parking Cons: Sometimes srvc slow, Prices a *bit* high, High calorie more

Won't Go Back 6/26/2002

I agree with the last several reviewers here. When I came to Chapel Hill I had heard wonderful things about Dips. I was eager to try it out. I was very disappointed by the price, portion sizes, friendliness of staff, etc. I still wonder how this place got its fabulous reputation. The food was mediocre at best. This is not a good location for a group setting unless one person wants to pay for everyone since they do not split checks. Save money, go somewhere else instead. more

Something has changed 6/24/2002

It is instructive to see the nosedive the ratings at Dip's have taken over the past year. I took my parents there early last spring. Service was slow, the food was mediocre (at best) and everything was WAY over-priced. I've eaten at Dip's in the past, and the change is quite noticeable. This is a place riding on its reputation. I really hope they can turn it around. more

Easy on Mama Dip!!! 6/24/2002

If you go, don't expect great service, or gourmet meals. DO expect the best fried chicken around, slow-cooked (yes, that means your green beans will be soft, not crisp) vegetables, southern desserts, and sweet iced tea. Wear your shorts and flip-flops, sit on the porch, and RELAX. Type A's should stay away. It's gonna take a while, but if you know what to order, you'll have a great southern meal in a very casual setting. And be sure you go to breakfast for the wonderful biscuits, chicken and gravy, and salmon cakes. By the way, if you don't have the backbone to sign your review, you shouldn't be submitting it, and, while we're on the subject, CITYSEARCH SHOULD STOP POSTING ANONYMOUS REVIEWS!!!!! Pros: Fried Chicken, Sweet Potato Pie, Collards Cons: Service more

Worse than expected 6/24/2002

I went expecting real Southern Food. The chicken livers were overcooked, the corn was full kernal canned, the other vegs also tasted canned. To have all the publicity, I would have expected freshly cooked food. Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Cons: Poor Food, No Atmosphere more

Go Elsewhere for real Southern flavor 6/2/2002

This is mediocre Southern food served up in a room that feels like a church social hall. The porch is nice and the desserts are good, but there really is better and cheaper home-cookin' in the Triangle. more
