Lovely 7/20/2011

I got the most incredible pair of sunglasses from here. I simply adore them. The shop is fantastic and it is so refreshing that the people that work there are not all in your face. They have the perfect balance of letting you do your own thing, but helping you when you need it. There is nothing fake about them. I think Prada purse needs to stick to Nordstrom. She doesn't deserve the greatness that is Magpie. more

A Customer's Response to ""Deplorable"" 7/1/2011

I feel very bad for the women who work there. I agree with the girl who said providing her description is a defamation of character (great wording there by the way). The women who wrote that review is clearly a spoiled women who probably hasn't worked in retail or customer service. I also think she exaggerated about the way she was treated in the store. When I went to Magpie I had a wonderful experience! The man who was helping me was great and incredibly helpful. I had a blast shopping and I found some great deals including a vintage Christian Dior white dress shirt with the original tags for a little over $20 for my boyfriend. I am in love with this store. If you skip over it you'll seriously be missing out. more

Don't Bother 11/11/2008

I work not far from this little shop and the window's always look tempting with great vintage items in them. However I have been in there twice and twice I have had a bad experience, besides they're a bit over-priced. My first experience several weeks ago I was interested in Jewelry in the display case. I must have stood there and peered in for about 5+ minutes before someone decided maybe they should talk to me, (2 ladies where too busy talking to help me, the customer). When I inquired about the item I wanted to see the individual that helped me was not very cordial or friendly. I just chalked it up to a bad day, we all have them and I know when you work with the public it can be trying at times. I let that slide. more

Rude 6/13/2008

I just discovered this city search thing so I think I'm going a little crazy posting. It's so nice to be able to state what I feel about businesses. I can't tell you how many downtown places are just plain rude and this place was no exception. I stumbled across this store on my way to Johny Sole. What a mistake. I barely had time to look at anything before the front desk girl asked me to take my bags. I told her that all I had was my purse and my dog carrier with my dog in it and if I gave it to her my dog would freak out. She just walked away all mad. Now feeling uncomfortable from her response I left. Went to Johny Sole's place and found the cutest pair of summer shoes and a one of a kind summer dress. They never gave me any flack about my dog carrier, very helpful with the selection as well. Guess I can post something cool about them next! Pros: Next to Johny Sole Cons: Rude staff more

I love Magpie! 3/14/2008

Magpie is the one vintage/thrift store I can count on for a consistently amazing selection of clothing. They are inexpensive but the selection is amazing... you do not have to leaf through many items to find a gem... Pros: great selection, excellent vintage section, quality merchandise, good staff, great price Cons: hmmm.. i'm not sure. more

Response to Deplorable 3/4/2008

I am the 'Greek' girl listed under the 'Deplorable' review. I am not Greek, but thanks for the assumption. I'd love to respond to the comments made. I think most people are able to read the store's hours, as they are clearly and legibly written on the sign on the door for all to see. Everyone else seems to be able to figure it out, so why can't you? more

Awesome! 2/18/2008

I absolutely love Magpie! I have gotten my prom dresses there the past three years and always find them to be beautiful and really resonably priced. The employeees are GREAT! They help me pick out whatever I need and always offer their honest opinion. I love everything about this store and would highly suggest everyone go there. Just a lovely, fun store with a really great atmosphere. Keep it up Magpie! Pros: employees, quality, experience, and variety more

Deplorable 1/11/2008

I attempted to stop by several times in a course of a month, they were always closed. The store window displays had changed several times so I knew they had to be eventually open for business or why would they bother? One day around 1:45 they were open and someone was there! I was elated! I slowly walked up the stairs absorbing the intricate vintage placement all around me. I was grinning from ear to ear, I also had about 2,000 cash ready to drop on many different things that I needed to obtain for upcoming events. A Halloween costume, Christmas and New Years eve dinner dresses and jackets was my hope. A young 19-20ish caucasian/greek? girl with black hair and another young (beautiful) african american girl (I USE THIS DESCRIPTION SO THE OWNER CAN FIGURE OUT WHOM I'M SPEAKING OF) barely looked over at me. Too involved in their magazines. I was running my fingers through a white, luxurious, faux fur, 70's, long sleeve, short jacket and turned towards them and said ""excuse me"". Very nicely a might add. Do you have a furry jacket like this but longer? The darker girl just looked at me almost frowning and said ""No"". Funny thing is, out of the corner of my eye I could see something long and white and furry and as I was about to cross the room to investigate the light skinned girl said to me. ""I need to take your bag"". Pros: Can always hire new people Cons: I think those girls are still there more

Oh la la 7/14/2007

I really dig this cute little shop, it's been around for awhile for a good reason. The cloths are always clean and well kept. My only complaint is that some of the boutique type fasions that people bring in for sale can be a bit overpriced, but the vintage clothing selection is usually well priced. Pros: Good selection, quality vintage goods Cons: Home made fashion clothes are a little spendy, off street parking is a pain more

Best vintage in downtown 8/6/2005

I've been to Magpie a few times and have always been impressed. They take great pains to organize and present clothing and apparel. All clothes are in excellent shape and are sold at decent prices. Employees are very outgoing and helpful. Pros: Cost, Quality, Employees more

Magpie rocks my tube-top! 12/20/2002

I am a member of a 70s disco tribute band called HitExplosoin that plays in the portland area frequently and every time we are in town we make an effort to go to Magpie to shop for quality vintage threads. Magpie consistenly has the best stuff for the best prices and we never leave without finding something awesome. Magpie is the best I've seen and I've been shopping for this kind of stuff for almost 9 years. Magpie rules! Harry more
